24.01.2022 Who? You? We need you! Mackay hairdressers raise your hands! ... We have a Hair Aid Community Cuts there which is currently being managed by just one amazing hairdresser, and boy does she need a hand. We are looking to create a team of four volunteers for this location, a team of six would simply blow my mind! Well it's not an overly huge location, we do need a roster of 4 to 6 to ensure that when people can't make it the roster still covered. So the time is now! Please sign up on this link so that we can allocate you to the team. The next event is coming up fast. The day after Valentine's Day, 15 February, is when we will need you first. Then we'd love to see your smiling face every six weeks after that. It's a two hour event. https://www.hairaid.org.au/communitycuts

20.01.2022 Wrapping up NAIDOC Week here at headquarters, just spent three hours listening to these amazing talks. It's a credible, thoughtful, insightful platform for indigenous culture to be shared and learn from. Do yourself a favour and listen to at least two this weekend.https://indigenousx.com.au/

18.01.2022 Happy Diwali to our friends that celebrate this.. Diwali is the Indian festival of lights, usually lasting five days and celebrated during the Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika. One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance".

14.01.2022 How humbling it was to stand on the stage with some amazing people, finalists in the Australia Day awards for Sunshine Coast. Grateful to be nominated, humbled to be a finalist. 12.01.2022 Had wonderful catch up with our UK ambassador last night via zoom. We were able to touch base, and go through everything Hair Aid related. I'm thankful for technology that ensures we can stay in contact, see each other's face, and keeps us connected.

09.01.2022 Mackay .. a place of beaches and mountains, a touch of city and an abundance of sea and sand. Our location in Mackay is mid size. Our team there has made such an impact and we will continue to do so in 2021. Such an impact, they want more hairdressers at our visits.. which makes sense, because some of the guests miss out.... So, if you live near Mackay - and can help in the new year - the first event is 15th February 2021 and we'd love to have you on the team!

07.01.2022 We have a student just beginning his hairdressing career - looking for Saturday work in a salon near Slacks Creek QLD.. he is just 4 weeks into his course, can do hair washes at the moment and he is super keen to secure an apprenticeship

It also pops you want to database. Once you're on the database you'll get all the information of upcoming events for locations that you've chosen. I can't wait to have you on the team. So excited.

06.01.2022 Great advice! Strategic plan in progress ... grateful to have guiding minds as we manoeuvre through uncharted challenges...

06.01.2022 Nikki Rest In Peace angel , you were such a bright joy to everyone that knew you and Im praying for you tonight to be at peace , and have a smooth transition in...to the spirit world after your journey here . Nikki passed away last night.. Just before lockdown in August I had the honour of doing leopard hair for her while it was still legal to do hair. Nikki actually had terminal cancer , a really rare type called Sarcoma that she had been through 3 rounds of chemotherapy treatment for , she was 33 and was given months to live, Nikki was also a fellow hairdresser I was honoured to do her hair on this day, it was the only time that we actually met and I’m glad that we found the time before everything closed before lockdown stage 4- For Nikki’s birthday a few days before I did her hair back in August , she started a fundraiser for Sarcoma Cancer via her Facebook , I will put the link below : https://m.facebook.com/nt/screen/ , if anyone would like to contribute what they can to help others in loving memory of her and her journey, aswell as helping others recover that have this rare type of cancer , it would be much appreciated I just think she’s just such a phenomenal and selfless soul for starting a birthday fundraiser to help others especially in her last 3 months that she had to live she thought of helping others - Sarcoma research receives significantly less funding than other types of cancers due to the rarity and varied types of sarcoma tumours. As a result, sarcoma researchers have limited resources to work on projects that may be the next breakthroughs in sarcoma diagnosis or treatment. Through your generosity, ANZSA ( Aus and NZ Sarcoma Assosiation ) dedicates 100%* of your donations towards crucial sarcoma research and clinical trials to save and improve lives . Rest In Peace angel Nikki , I know that you’ll be watching over all of your loved ones and protecting them from up above, with your positive energy. You were such a joy to be around when you came in the salon that day with your mum and I’m so glad that we got to meet, and do your hair before restrictions came in to salons not being able to operate . Your clients loved you aswell as your family and friends ( including Janie Foxcroft who booked you in to see me ) May you be at peace and out of pain #haircut #buzzcut #shavedhead #rainbowhair #unicornhair #leopard #leopardprint #hairartist #hairgoals #hairdressermagic #hairvideos #hairgoals #hairinspo #hairporn #hair #hairdresse

My Q to all you that are wanting to participate: how do you see the best modification for this year's event given that COVID 19 has impacted so many around the world? (We have plans in place, but we'd love to hear your ideas too!)

01.01.2022 Happy NAIDOC week Walkabout Barber brings fresh styles and mental health first aid to the country. The first time Brian Dowd tried to give his young son a haircut, it ended in tears for both of them.... Shortly after, Mr Dowd's son was diagnosed with autism. Family haircuts soon became a very specialised but regular practice. "It was difficult to start off with but eventually we started getting results," Mr Dowd said. A lot of effort went into those cuts, but barber work was not Mr Dowd's first calling. In 2000, at just 27 years of age, the then-young aspiring NRL player attempted to take his own life. He spent the next three years doing what he describes as "saving his life", by undergoing a range of rehabilitation programs and workshops. Mr Dowd put himself through university to become a trauma specialist by trade. "I came out the other end standing on my own two feet, so I said, 'Now I've saved my life I want to help other people save theirs'," he said. Fresh cuts, fresh minds Three male barbers work to cut hair in a mobile barber shop There was a line out the door as the barbers worked for hours on end cutting hair during their visit to Albury.(ABC Goulburn Murray: Erin Somerville) Balancing his work on the road as a trauma counsellor with his son's regular haircuts became a challenge Mr Dowd met by opening up a barber shop. It allowed him to keep up his counselling skills, while being around to give his boy a haircut when needed. Mr Dowd soon realised though that many in need of his skills both as a barber and trauma specialist lived far away. So, his shop became mobile and Walkabout Barber Enterprises was born.
