We are looking for someone with some hair experience be it Cert II, an apprentice first second or third year, or an amazing qualified hairdresser. 24.01.2022 Lighting! Our friend yet our enemy! Why one day in a certain place does your hair look so nice and white and then later that same day looks a bit warmer? 90% of the time we would put this down to the lighting where you are. It's funny what colours hour hair will pick up particularly our blondes!... The lighting can reflect off what your wearing, an item your standing by or even the light itself. Bathroom heat lights are a great example these lights are generally an orange or yellow based light and you will notice that in your hair makes your blonde in turn look yellow!! how cruel is light sometimes!! These two photos are a great example, our first photo has our outdoor natural lighting and looks very true to the color we created, come in the salon on a different angle and the color looks a bit darker and a bit warmer, both the exact same head and the photos 2 seconds apart. The point behind this post is that of you ever have that day where you think your blonde has changed, which yes sometimes it does, go outside in the natural light! 23.01.2022 Keeping the client happy! When we do consultations at Hair Retreat we make sure we are thorough with each and every one. The thing about a consultation is if we are doing our job right and asking you the right questions we should be able to give you the results you are looking for. This being said, in our consultations if we can't achieve what you want we will tell you! We dont want you having unrealistic expectations so if something isn't achievable in your hair we want you... to know, your hairs health is the most important thing!! @dazza_1262 here is a great example!! Dazz has quite dark natural hair and felt when she went to the hairdresser it never looked any different. She showed me a photo that had the lightest blonde you can get, in our consultation I told her that lightening such dark hair will take some time but we would take some steps in the right direction. We did a full head of foils, pulled more lightness through the ends and did a root stretch through the top so her regrowth wouldn't be too obvious. This is our result!!!! She was extremely happy with the impact we made in her hair, although not as light as she would have liked, she understood through our consultation what was going to be possible for her hair type! I'm shattered I forgot to take a before photo so you could see how dark it was but who loves this result we got her?

23.01.2022 Blue hair don't care!!! We dont do vivid often but when we do we make sure we put 100% of ourselves into them! The thing that a lot of people don't realise about going these sorts of vivid colours is the time and effort that needs to be put into them by both us the hairdresser and you the client!... I am going to use the process for this colour as and example..... The health of the hair is the main priority when we do any colour and it’s no different for a vivid. Our beautiful client was in the salon with me for 6 hours. You may think that sounds like ages, and I promise not every case is the same but to achieve this we had to pre-lighten the ends as it's naturally too dark of a colour just to put a vivid over. Our first application of lightener didn't lift enough and was too yellow in colour (put a blue over yellow you get green!!!). The trick with a lot of vivids is getting the blonde quite light, so back to the seat we went, dried the hair off, ran over our options with our client and decided to do another application of lightener. Please keep in mind we are supervising each process to again make sure we are maintaining the health of the hair!!! Yes!!! Now after lightening twice we have the blonde we need to be able to put this kind of colour over!!!! Back to our chair again, dry the hair off again, and now to apply the vivid colour over the top. Let that process and now we can see our beautiful colour! Yay again!!! Bit of a haircut to finish presto this is what we came up with! So let's recap in summary that's 3 colour applications, that's 3 dry offs, that's plenty of colour and time. So if you want something like this talk about it with your hairdresser before you book and make sure they are booking you in for enough time! If they aren't prepared with enough time and the right colour you might be very disappointed! Then your at home care is massive!!!

22.01.2022 Colour it or chop it???.... This is the question one of our clients asked herself, about her corona virus regrowth, and chop it was! What a change!! Our theory here was cut all the colour out, and we came pretty close. Such a liberating cut for our client and we loved every second of this change!

21.01.2022 Oops on the before photo... Maddy is that client that comes in and you never know what she is going to ask for! Safe to say i got a bit excited when she said im cutting my hair off and missed my photo opportunity . Tried to get what I could but this in no way shows how much we really cut off!... Also dont know if you noticed she was blonde...."hey Jess I'm cutting my hair off and going dark today!" my reaction! Have you ever gone from blonde to dark and ended up with green hair!!?? If you haven't you may know someone who has! Thats why it's a great idea to go to your hairdresser for such a massive change!! We have been taught the 'rules' and before we even put this base colour on we had to do what we call 'fill' the ends. Basically this means putting a colour underneath the colour we want to prevent any green!!! Its all about the colour wheel and counteracting. I listened in school suprise mum! We are educated this is why you trust us! We love our job and we love you clients and we only want to give you the best! Hands up if your ready for a change?? p.s special mention to the beautiful fine foils in there that we put in just using the old blonde before we covered over it all the just set it off so nice

20.01.2022 All in a days work! Hairdressing is like cooking in the kitchen....the result is amazing but you don't always manage work with the neatest station. Me personally though I'm better with hair than in the kitchen ... And hows the @elevenaustralia combo smooth and shine serum and the detangle my hair

18.01.2022 Your time... This beautiful mumma had not had her hair done since December last year!!!! We had plenty of regrowth to work with thats for sure! Our aim was to get amazing fresh hair but keeping the maintenance as low as possible. After much deliberation, and loving the idea of going back light, we decided on a full head of foils with a root stretch. The purpose of a root stretch is to darken over the roots of the foils so that as we let it grow out the regrowth doesn't contra...st as much and you barely notice the roots coming through! This is a massive win win for this mumma!! I know as a mumma its hard to find the time, even people who aren't parents find it hard to find time to come in the salon. We try to make sure your time in our seat is worth it and we value that you have made the time to come in by giving you nothing less that 100% of us. Thank you to everyone who manages to come in and support out business we appreciate each and everyone of you!!!

You want to make a big change, you bring in photos, you’ve thought about it for a while so you make an appointment and you walk in and you tell your stylist and they say No. It can be a hard pill to swallow, but I’m going to challenge you and let you know that they are probably saying no for a reason.... As a hairstylist, my top priority is the integrity of your hair and I have to say no sometimes when I don’t think the hair can handle what your asking for right then and there. Does that mean I don’t want to do your hair? Absolutely not. Does that mean I want you to have hair left when you leave? Absolutely! Now one thing I do say is no, not right now but. which is usually followed by a plan on how to get there one day. It may look like starting the process that day and laying out a plan of treatments, frequent trims, and a few months of slowly getting there. 09.01.2022 Out with the old in with the new! Our client decided after a while being blonde she would come away from it for a bit, and what an amazing change. As you can see this is still a beautiful lighter colour just not your typical 'light blonde'. A beautiful beige base with a little dimension through the mids and ends. ... 02.01.2022 Action shot! Who here uses salon products in their hair?? Let's talk about heat protection spray! If you use heat in your hair we strongly suggest using a thermal spray or a product that you know protects against heat. If blow drying your hair or using straighteners that heat you are using goes straight on vulnerable hair, however if you protect your hair with a thermal spray or heat protectant the first this that heat touches is now that product and not your hair!! Pretty a...mazing hey!! They also come with other styling benefits like protecting your style from the outside elements and minimising Frizz and flyaways.
