25.01.2022 The 26th January is a day of survival and mourning, not a day of celebration. Today we stand in solidarity with First Nations people. This year Yabun Festival is streaming on most digital platforms http://www.yabun.org.au

20.01.2022 Today on World AIDS day we show our support for people living with HIV and commemorate those in the community that are no longer with us. This year’s UNAIDS theme is ‘Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibility’ and focuses on the role of individuals and communities to help reduce the transmission of HIV and to ensure people living with HIV have every opportunity to participate fully in the wider community, free from stigma and discrimination. HALC is committed to fighting against all forms of discrimination against people living with HIV and those most at risk. On this World AIDS day we renew our commitment to continuing our work to ensure that all people living with HIV have equal access to justice and equality before the law.

19.01.2022 HALC strongly condemns the Mandatory Disease Testing Bill 2020 introduced into the NSW parliament on the 11 November. The legislation would require mandatory testing of individuals whose bodily fluids come into contact with police and emergency service personnel. The legislation disregards the widely accepted evidence that testing without consent is contrary to public health outcomes and is inconsistent with state, national and international policies and guidelines. The c...urrent policies and procedures in place in New South Wales have seen no incidence of occupational transmission of HIV for emergency service personnel for 15 years. New South Wales should be proud of their world-leading HIV response which was guided by scientific evidence and ensuring an enabling environment for people living with HIV. The bill lacks any medical or judicial oversight and relies only on senior officers to determine if a mandatory HIV test is to be ordered. HALC believes that the introduction of this bill will only increase stigma and discrimination and spread misinformation about HIV and other Blood Borne Viruses. 06.01.2022 Everyone deserves to live, study, and work with dignity, no matter what they believe, who they are, or whom they love. We have joined 90 organisations in opposing One Nation NSW's Religion Bill, calling for fair and equal discrimination laws which protect all of us, including people of faith and those who are not religious, equally alongside other groups. Both the campaign and joint statement can be found here www.protectusall.com.au.
