23.01.2022 A sunset walk to finish off the day. #halcyonfields #wwoofing #sunset

23.01.2022 Today we have added a few new members to the Halcyon Fields team. Three Holstein poddy bull calves, the one with the heart on is forehead is appropriately named Valentine. We’re still looking for names for the other two. Also, two Brown Swiss heffers, Heidi and Helga arrived today. Lots of twice daily feedings for the next month or so.

23.01.2022 More ways to support your local business. Of course buying their products is also still appreciated.

13.01.2022 FARMERS, PRODUCERS, HARVESTERS, GROWERS. We have developed an App that aims to connect you with commercial foodies who are looking to buy your product direct! ...The opportunities we are aiming to create with the App include enabling you to: - find new markets - find a market for niche products - sell product that doesn’t meet standard market specifications - sell excess - reduce transport cost - find local transport prepared to do smaller loads and runs - cut out middleman - save time, use anywhere there is mobile coverage (use on PC, tablet or smart phone) - tell the story behind your food - advertise to a regional customer base - reach a very targeted audience Great chance to get in at a good price. 12.01.2022 Due to a change in circumstances we will no longer be operating the farm business. We would like to thank everyone that has been part of the Halcyon Fields journey over the last seven years. Whether you enjoyed our delicious pork and lamb, spent time helping us run the farm or just followed our story on Facebook, we really enjoyed having you all along for the ride. It has been a huge time of learning and growth, trials and tribulations, challenge and reward but mostly it has been a delightful experience. Thank you all once again for your support, encouragement and help.

12.01.2022 Once again, industrial agriculture seeks to buy its way out of the problems of its fundamentally flawed production model with high tech solutions. This time, i...t's by genetically engineering pigs to be immune to porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) - a disease that is endemic in the intensive pig industry and almost unheard of in pastured systems. So instead of addressing the root cause of PRRS, which is putting thousands of pigs in cramped sheds where the air quality is so bad they develop pneumonia, pleurisy and PRRS in vast numbers, they've engineered pigs who can tolerate the toxic environment they're confined to for their entire lives - and they're calling this a win for animal welfare. The work was funded by Genus Pic - the company that sires 30% of industrial pigs *in the world*. That's right - one company is the source of a third of the world's industrial pig stock, with the attendant risks of a limited gene pool to stack on top of the risk of such centralised control of the food system. Choose pork and poultry from farms with names, people you can talk to, and animals raised outdoors on pasture in ethical and ecologically sound ways! https://www.theguardian.com//scientists-genetically-engine

09.01.2022 The poddy calves are all coming along nicely. Once we get them all sorted on to the right teat they are off like a rocket and 12 litres of milk disappears in minutes.
