23.01.2022 Be concerned people. Be very concerned. Until mass-produced pesticides hit the market at the end of WWII most of our fruit and vegies were organic by default. M...alcolm McGuire investigates how things have changed, what’s being sprayed on our crops now, and some of the worst offenders. https://www.organicgardener.com.au/blogs/whats-my-food See more

14.01.2022 Once again, industrial agriculture seeks to buy its way out of the problems of its fundamentally flawed production model with high tech solutions. This time, i...t's by genetically engineering pigs to be immune to porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) - a disease that is endemic in the intensive pig industry and almost unheard of in pastured systems. So instead of addressing the root cause of PRRS, which is putting thousands of pigs in cramped sheds where the air quality is so bad they develop pneumonia, pleurisy and PRRS in vast numbers, they've engineered pigs who can tolerate the toxic environment they're confined to for their entire lives - and they're calling this a win for animal welfare. The work was funded by Genus Pic - the company that sires 30% of industrial pigs *in the world*. That's right - one company is the source of a third of the world's industrial pig stock, with the attendant risks of a limited gene pool to stack on top of the risk of such centralised control of the food system. Choose pork and poultry from farms with names, people you can talk to, and animals raised outdoors on pasture in ethical and ecologically sound ways! https://www.theguardian.com//scientists-genetically-engine
