05.01.2022 CAPE LEVEQUE SEALING FINISHED The sealing of one of Australia's roughest and most spectacular roads has finished. Work on the 90 kilometre stretch of Cape L...eveque Road began in 2018 in a bid to improve access to and from the Dampier Peninsula. The $65 million project will allow residents can travel safely during the wet season, and tourists to visit more easily. Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said she looked forward to visiting. "This is a fantastic project that has been jointly funded by the Commonwealth and State Governments and has supported 290 jobs," she said. "I recently visited this project and met some of the workers ... it was great to hear the good news stories about the positive impact this project has had, and will continue to have on the local communities."

02.01.2022 360 millions years of geological perfection. There is so much to love about Purnululu National Park. It is vast, bewitching and like no other place on earth. We... spent two days exploring the park, but you could easily spend a few more if you wanted to see everything. We have camped at Walardi Campground before, and our pick of sites are anything in the Quiet Camp (sites 1-23, although 16-18 are next to the river bed if thats your preference) and 31 (generator site, but right up the end and next to the river bed). This time we stayed at Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge which was a treat as it has a pool (only one in the park and much appreciated due to the heat!), superb meals and is close to Cathedral Gorge, which we wanted to reach early in the day. The best word of advice we have for Cathedral Gorge is get there early as the sun rises. We have been extremely lucky to have it to ourselves each time we have visited and it makes a MASSIVE difference to the experience. Due to the natural amphitheatre and cavernous nature of the gorge, it echoes a lot. On the flipside, it can be very quiet if you have it to yourself and take the time to absorb the silence. How much real silence do we get these days? This place is still one of our favourite places anywhere in the world.

02.01.2022 The coronavirus (COVID-19) has the potential to do great harm to the Kimberleys 221 remote Aboriginal communities. Aboriginal people living in remote areas are... more at risk of serious illness from the coronavirus than other people. If the coronavirus gets into an Aboriginal community, it is likely to spread quickly and make residents very sick. To help protect our Aboriginal communities, there are strict travel restrictions in place. Tourists and travellers are not allowed to enter any remote Aboriginal community in Western Australia. Fines of up to $50,000 may apply to anyone who breaches the restrictions. Only some Aboriginal communities are excluded from the restrictions. In the Kimberley, the following Aboriginal community amenities are currently open to tourists and travellers: Dampier Peninsula, West Kimberley - Burrguk (entire community) - Djarindjin roadhouse - Dampier Peninsula police station - Djarindjin airstrip (private airstrip) - Embulgun (entire community) - Gnylmarung (entire community) - Googar Goonyool (entire community) - Goombaragin (entire community) - Gumbarnun (entire community) - Lombadina (entire community) - Mercedes Cove (entire community) West Kimberley - Imintji campground - Imintji store - Imintji arts centre - Mimbi visitor access road - Mimbi visitor reception building - Mowanjum Aboriginal Art and Culture Centre East Kimberley - Violet Valley campground in Baulu-Wah - Carranya (entire community) - Wuggubun (entire community) - Doon Doon (Woolah) caravan park - Doon Doon (Woolah) roadhouse All other remote Aboriginal communities in the Kimberley and their amenities are closed to tourists and travellers. Please travel responsibly help keep our Aboriginal communities safe. For more information, call 13 COVID (13 268 43) or visit wa.gov.au

02.01.2022 Like the Madagasgarian Boabab, the Boab trees of the Kimberley have an indigenous Dreamtime story of tall poppy syndrome. The Boab tree was the biggest by a co...unty mile, has the nicest skin, biggest fruit and prettiest flower. It was not at all modest about its superior attributes and used to boast to all the other flora about how much better he was. The gods humbled the entitled Boab by ripping it out of the ground by its roots and replanting it upside down. Thats why both Boababs of Madagascar and the Kimberleys Boabs are known as upside down trees. Since 2 different cultures have the same story for Boab trees, this is what Carl Jung would call an Archetype. Its not a made up story, but part of the collective consciousness and a valuable lesson from the universe.
