23.01.2022 DRESSING FOR THE OCCASION Today is International Literacy Day and we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to flashback throughout this term when we have celebrated (National) HASS, Science, Literacy and Numeracy Weeks. Our teachers and staff have dressed up on these occasions and have proudly showcased each of their departments. For HASS week, teachers were encouraged to come dressed as someone from our history who inspires us, so, the entire Phys-Ed Team came dressed... as Mr Taylor. 15.01.2022 IN THIS TOGETHER Reconciliation Week (27 May 3 June) Halls Head College students recognised both Reconciliation Week and National Day of Healing by holding a special morning tea to honour our local Elder, Koodah.... Koodahs role at HHC as our Cultural Advisor prioritises the wellbeing of each and every student. Koodah is passionate in his message to have karla (fire) burning in our hearts and is often found in the Cultural Centre or in the Munda Boodja Block taking a quiet moment to listen or have a yarn with students, who gravitate toward his wise soul for advice. Koodahs personal Stolen Generation experience was the catalyst behind honouring him today and he explained emotionally that it was great to see the coming together of cross-cultures to share in these experiences. Our Follow The Dream, Art and Advocacy class students chose to decorate the Performing Arts Centre in purple native hibiscus flowers. Purple denotes compassion and spiritual healing and hibiscus because it is found widely across Australia and it is a survivor. Our Big Picture Academy students catered for the morning tea using native recipes for lemon mertyl cupcakes, damper and quandong jam. 01.01.2022 H Y, H Y! M F - Long Scribe ahead.... Our Year 8 students embraced our Medieval Faire today with cross curricular learning going on in every corner of our College. ... Students participated in a banquet with the King and Queen, a theatre performance, a virtual tour of a castle, made necklaces at a craft stall, had calligraphy lessons, learnt about medieval myths and legends, participated in medieval games and joined in with a round of archery. Mrs McWhinnie’s science lab was converted into a broiling, bubbling witch’s cauldron, where students learnt about dissecting brains, extracting an eye lens for medieval medicinal purposes and additionally, each student was given a disease to diagnose for their lesson. Students were also lucky enough to have two (real) Knights come to visit during their Banquet. Our Knights interacted with each class and demonstrated the armour of Medieval times. Our teachers all put in a fantastic effort to dress up and set the theme throughout the day and a special thank you to over fifty student helpers from other year groups who assisted with music and production.
