16.01.2022 Lily Toxicity in cats. Lilies (lilium spp & hemerocallis spp) are extremely toxic to cats and can kill them. The entire plant is toxic and licking, ingesting or chewing any part of the plant can cause complete kidney failure in 36-72 hours. Only a very small amount of the plant is enough to cause kidney failure and unless aggressive treatment is started immediately the result is usually fatal. ... Once the cat starts showing clinical signs - reduced appetite, lethargy, no urination - it is often too late to treat. It is therefore vital to seek veterinary treatment as soon as you notice your cat has been in contact with the plant Sadly we have seen several cases at our practice over the last few months where the owners have not seen their cats chewing the plant and, like most people, were unaware that lilies were toxic to cats. Lilies are a very common flower used in floral arrangements as well as in people's gardens. Please let all your friends and your local florist know the dangers of this plant to cats. Cats are attracted to lilies and it is heart-breaking for cat owners (and us) when this type of poisoning occurs. https://www.thespruce.com/beautiful-lily-varieties-to-grow-
