25.01.2022 "they understand she is more then just a dog to me" #inyourwords

24.01.2022 Okay, let us hear them!

23.01.2022 Happy Graduation to this lovely group of puppies and their humans! With a varying range of sizes and personalities, this class found the perfect balance and had a fabulous time together. Maggie the Groodle was a quick learner who was full of life! She was our first pup to learn how to catch a treat, check out the video in the comments. Archie the Mini Dachshund was shy at first, but quickly came out of his shell. He is pictured amid a rough and tumble session with Milly the B...eaglier. Milly was a confident girl who powered through the agility course with ease. Her Beagle nose made an appearance every week where she used it to locate where the pig ears were stored! Lastly was Georgie the Toy Poodle, this little guy is a ball of fun! Between keeping his owners busy at home with his mischievous antics, he has also learnt an amazing 'Bang' trick, check out the video in the comments section. Thank you to this group for a really enjoyable class, we look forward to watching you all grow! See more

23.01.2022 Bailey the Labrador was on his best behaviour at his last puppy vaccination appointment, it seems he's figured out the formula to get all the treats his heart desires! Okay, maybe not allll the treats his heart desires, he is a Labrador after all..

21.01.2022 Meet Norman, the newest member of the Hall Vet Fur Family Nurse Maddy finally brought Norman home last week after wanting for a boxer for the last 10 years! He is playful, sweet and smart, all of the things one could want in a canine companion. Norman is currently 9 weeks old and already weighing almost 8 kilos, we can't wait to watch him grow into his huge paws

19.01.2022 Whilst Miniature Schnauzers are a very popular dog breed, we don't see their larger counterpart, the Standard Schnauzer, quite as often! Typically, Miniature Schnauzers weigh less than 10kg, pictured here are Jeanie and Qira who both weigh in at over 30kg each! We just love seeing dogs of all ages, shapes, sizes and personality quirks!

18.01.2022 #christmasraffle #opennow This time of year can be hard for some people who are in financial distress and we often see an increase in support requests to our ch...arity for people needing the funds to access emergency veterinary treatment which wasn't originally budgeted for. We completely understand that accidents happen and we are here to help in those times of need. We have one final raffle for 2020 which is Christmas themed, and all entries will not only have the chance to win some amazing prizes but you'll also be supporting our charity. We again have some amazing prizes on offer including a locally baked ginger bread house, hampers, tickets to Canberra icons and bunnings vouchers. We want to ensure we can let everyone (and there pets) have a Merry Christmas and New Year. Raffle prizes will be drawn on 20th of December and delivered the week prior to Christmas. Please note that you must supply a local (Canberra region) delivery address if you win a prize. Unfortunately we won't be able to mail out the prizes.

18.01.2022 A truly heartwarming story

18.01.2022 STORM PHOBIA It’s that time of year again when we hear many reports of pets suffering from storm phobia. This very real condition is caused by a highly distressing irrational fear beyond any logical self-preservation instinct. It is deserving of our attention and there are effective treatments available. This year, Australia is bracing for a summer of above-average rainfall and increased risk of severe summer storms. If your pet suffers from storm phobia and anxiety, now is the time to make sure you're prepared. For Dr Helen Purdam's top tips on how to tell if your pet is suffering and how you can help them, head to the link below or call us on 6230 2223.

17.01.2022 From all of us at Hall Vet Surgery, we hope you have a safe and Merry Christmas! A quick reminder that will be enjoying a short break from today until Tuesday the 29th of December. 17.01.2022 Is it a stuffed toy? Is it a fluffly cloud? Nope, it's Costa the Angora Rabbit We are completely smitten by this bunny, at just 3.5 months old he is already bigger than most rabbits get to at full size. Dating back to the early 18th century, The Angora Rabbit was originally bred for it's long coat, known as Angora Wool which is harvested by shearing or plucking. These gorgeous bunnies are now quite a popular family pet too!

16.01.2022 Handsome little Billy at his first visit to Hall Vet Surgery This is all the proof we need that love at first sight exists!

15.01.2022 Here's an uncommon breed for your Wednesday, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen! The PBGV is a scent hound, like Bloodhounds, Beagles and Dachshunds and originates from France. Whilst we don't see very many here at Hall Vet, we always love when they come in. Especially this little 10 week old cutie, Roxie

14.01.2022 One of our first puppy classes back since COVID-19 A big thank you to all of our attendees for their understanding around our new puppy school guidelines. This lovely group of puppies consisted of 2 English Staffordshires, Maisie (pink collar) and Rocco (blue collar), Rocco was the socialite of the group who wanted to play with everyone and everything, this little ball of muscle loved his treats. Maisie was the smallest in the class and took a little bit longer to come out ...of her shell, she didn't let her size stop her though and by week 4 she smashed the agility course with ease. Digger the Standard Poodle is training to be a service dog for one of his humans and he just loved working the room for treats, by far the biggest in the class growing by more than a kilo a week! Addie the Kelpie x Koolie was our agility hoop super star, and although not very food motivated we found that a squeaky toy was the key to her heart! We also had a guest appearance from Nurse Maddy's Boxer puppy Norman, whose confidence and bouncy nature helped to bring some of the pups out of their shells. Thanks again class, we loved having all of you <3 See more

13.01.2022 Over the past few weeks we have seen a large increase in the number of dogs presenting to us with Canine Cough, also known as 'Kennel Cough'. Kennel Cough is a highly contagious respiratory illness which often presents with a harsh and persistent hacking cough, like your pet has something stuck in their throat. You may also notice sneezing, nasal discharge, lethargy or loss of appetite. Kennel Cough is transmitted via water droplets and can be passed on via direct contact w...ith an infected animal as well as indirectly by coming into contact with a contaminated surface (e.g. the shared water bowl at a public dog park). We have even seen infections occur in dogs who haven't left their backyard, which makes the name 'Kennel Cough' very misleading. Whilst a boarding kennel is a popular place for an outbreak due to large gatherings of dogs in one place, infections can occur anywhere, regardless of whether your dog goes to kennels or not. Luckily, there are vaccines available to help prevent your pet from contracting this illness. Although vaccination doesn't guarantee immnuity from the desease, it does reduce your pet's chances and means an infection will be less severe and easier to treat than if they didn't receive the vaccination. If you notice any signs that your pet may be unwell or you need to check your pet's vaccination status, please call us on 6230 2223. https://www.hallvet.com.au//canberras-kennel-cough-outbre/

04.01.2022 Last week a kind samaritan dropped this gorgeous sugar glider in after he found it stuck in a barbed wire fence. Thankfully his finder had the tools on hand to cut the wire and free him from the fence, but knew he needed veterinary attention as a notch of the wire was embedded into his skin. To ensure he wasn't in pain/frightened and to allow us to have a thorough examination, Dr Vickie gave the sugar glider a general anaethetic via gas. Luckily for this little guy, she was able to remove the barbed wire without having to make any further incisions and he was cleared of any life threatening injuries. He has since started his rehabilitation journey with the fantastic people at ACT Wildlife and we all have our fingers crossed that he will make a full recovery! #sugarglider #australianwildlife #actwildlife
