17.01.2022 Why did I become a Naturopath? This is one of the most commonly asked questions I receive when I put up a question box (Alongside what do I think of XYZ d...iet, of which my answer will most likely be it depends on the individual, how boring I know ) I was drawn to Naturopathy due to its integrated approach and understanding that humans are whole, intelligent beings, and not just a cluster of separate symptoms to be addressed In my early 20s I experienced severe digestive issues. No GP, specialist nor gastroenterologist could understand or assist with my debilitating symptoms, and it wasn’t until I started working with a Naturopath that things started to improve. It took hard work, time, commitment, perseverance (and patience!), but she literally changed my life and I couldn’t believe how ‘normal’, and amazing I could feel. In my early 30s I went through years of hormonal acne. This symptom too took lots of work, dedication, and time. But again through the correct investigations, addressing the root cause of my acne, and supporting my health once again in an individualised manner, I am finally comfortable with where my skin is at. I don’t think I have had a particularly easy ride with my health, and it’s an on-going journey that I continue to work on today. I often wonder if I didn’t go through my personal health journey, would I have become a Naturopath? Would I understand and relate to my clients? Would I have enough compassion and empathy? No, most likely not. We must be grateful for the journey, no matter how challenging. I now feel honoured to work with women and men experiencing all kinds of symptoms and conditions hormonal complaints, reproductive health, digestion, skin complaints, mood disorders, and adrenal health. I find that it is S U C H a privilege to practice as a Naturopath; to be able to listen and my support my clients through their journey. It amazes me every single day and I am often left in awe of their strength and the hardships they have had to go through and the desire and commitment they have to learn more about their body. I feel very strongly about connecting my clients with the tools, resources, and education they need to understand what is happening with their bodies and what we can do to bring them to a higher state of health. 13.01.2022 How does your stress manifest?

13.01.2022 I have been buying poke bowls up a storm over summer (@fishbowl_sashimi ), and I have decided it’s time to grow up and make my own. This bowl is not the most c...onventional version of but it certainly does the trick Brown rice Shredded cabbage Roasted & raw veggies - I used capsicum, zucchini, pumpkin, asparagus BBQ’d salmon Avo cubes Edamame Pickled ginger The dressing was a combo of was @honesttogoodnessau coconut aminos and lemon juice, I think miso tahini would have been a nice option too. This combo doesn’t age well combined, so I suggest keeping the ingredients seperate if you’re making enough for leftovers

08.01.2022 Earlier this year I wrote a blog all about acne, what drives this skin condition, treatment options for different types of acne, and herbal and nutritional solu...tions. It’s my most read blog of all time (!!!), and acne has become a condition I work with in clinic weekly. Through my own skin journey and fascination with the ever-changing acne research, assisting others with their acne has become a passion (obsession) of mine! So, what causes acne? Swipe to learn 5 common contributors to acne vulgaris Elevated androgen levels Androgens stimulate the production of sebum, growth of the sebaceous glands and hyperkeratinisation. This is commonly seen with PCOS and post-pill use. Insulin resistance High circulating insulin levels can stimulate androgen production, triggering an increase in sebum production in the skin. Sugar A high-sugar diet can contribute to acne by increasing circulating levels of the hormone insulin. In addition, insulin can cause an imbalance in androgen levels. Dairy Dairy may contribute to acne through its link with insulin, IGF-1, and the mTOR pathway. Dairy can be inflammatory for some (but not all) people because of the protein component casein, which can stimulate mast cells and histamine. Digestion People with gastrointestinal disorders, adverse digestive symptoms or intestinal hyperpermeability are likely to have disrupted gut barrier integrity. The rise of antibiotics has consequences on the diversity of our microbiome. 06.01.2022 Simple toast toppers ways: Coconut yoghurt, peanut butter, cinnamon Avocado, mint, sauerkraut, lemon... The infamous life changing loaf from @mynewroots Suggestion; This didn’t keep me full for very long as there was not nearly enough protein to meet my needs. This may be enough for you, but if not, learn from my meal misfortune and add eggs, goats feta, fried tempeh, and/or hemp seeds
