22.01.2022 Sunday’s off from racing means we get to go on an adventure to the beautiful Armidale Stud located in Carrick, Tasmania. There is nothing quite like driving in to seeing foals and mares scattered through the paddocks happily eating and sleeping to their hearts content. Pictured is our Royal Beluga x Needs Further 5 week old filly Rowan and Claire both worked with Royal Beluga at Pat Hyland’s before she was purchased at the sales and came to Tasmania to race. 21.01.2022 LACERATE (2yo colt Charge Forward x Maisie Lou) stepped out today for his first trial in trial 3 at launceston over 800m. It was a big day for the youngster with his first trip away from home and his first go jumping out of the gates in a field of horses. We are really happy with how he trialed and took everything in his stride! 21.01.2022 DATE NIGHT One runner for a winner tonight with Doug stringing two wins in a row with Codi Jordan on board! An enormous effort by the lightly raced 8yo to keep rolling on from barrier 13 to lead and just keep on going for a nice and tough win. A massive shout out to our farrier as he has nightmare feet that take a lot of TLC to keep right, and the old saying no foot no horse was made for a horse like Doug. 20.01.2022 Today’s racing run down! BRACCENBY (first photo appreciating his paddock views) ran home super into third on the quick back up from last week. It was great to see the old stable stalwart performing well under Siggy again RAGHU (all the photos with his mini fan club) made his debut for the stable today over 1150 under apprentice Codi Jordan who was only having her third race ride. It was a super effort by Roo and Codi to run third knowing we want to get him over more groun...d! 19.01.2022 On Wednesday 22nd of July Tasmanian Horse Transport delivered this little gem, RAGHU, He has been every where from NZ to HK to Victoria and now the apple isle. Claire was pretty impatient to give the new kid a spin so his welcome to Tassie was a -1 morning on the 23rd (felt like -4) with a nice stretch of the legs and a bit of pampering! 19.01.2022 TARAS DESIGN finally gets a gig on King Island in the Vt & Gt Hill memorial Maiden to provide the team and Rhonda Mangan with a nice win! With weather causing her first chance to race to be cancelled, and someone forgetting to accept for the next meeting, it’s been a solid effort for her to win and win well. For months now Codi has come to the track early to ride a few for us before heading to the beach and riding for her Master. She has had a couple of close calls to notch up her first winner, but tonight Doug came through with the goods for Codi and our amazing owner Cory Jones (there’s your plug ) This little horse came to us over three and a half years ago from Hong Kong with more problems than... you could poke a stick at, he has been a challenge but he is finally putting it all together. 17.01.2022 Tonight’s view for DATE NIGHT after the rain had let up and the sun made an appearance Doug wasn’t really sure what all the fuss was about and just wanted to eat his Lucerne, but how lucky are we to have our horses be horses at our back door! It’s always satisfying to look out the window and see them picking grass, having a nap, doing zoomies or simply ears pricked watching the world around them. 15.01.2022 TODAYS RUNNERS Today we are at Devonport on the Tapeta, our home track. Our runners lining up today are as follows... Moonlight Knight - Race 3 1150 out of barrier 2 with Ianish Luximon on board. Dudey has improved every trial and piece of work he has done this preparation. Today will be a big mental test for this guy out of a good gate. ... Braccenby - Race 4 1150 out of barrier 7 with Siggy Carr on board. Braccenby loves the tapeta and has trialled up honest coming into this start. If they run along nicely he should be running on strong at the finish. We are looking forward to getting him over a bit more ground. Liberance - Race 5 1150 out of barrier 1 with Ianish Luximon on board. Libby is proven at this track with a debut win, so far we have been happy with her work but fairly unimpressed with her two trials. Today will really tell us where she is at, it would be great to see her take a sit and show us her nice turn of foot to the line. We Need A Star - Race 6 1150 out of barrier 6 with Siggy Carr on board. Spike is a last start winner at Launceston before the Covid19 shut down. He has trailed up fair coming into this race and has a lot of very honest runs to his credit. We are expecting him to end up midfield or there abouts and working home. No matter what he does he will do his best. Comiskey Park - Race 7 1350 out of barrier 3 with Thomas Doyle on board. Flip has managed two wins in a row over 1400 before and after the Tassie shutdown. He loves the Tapeta as a trackwork surface and has raced well here previously. The big guy is on fire at the moment, the only questions are whether he is looking for 1600m and the hefty weight he has! He is a big boy but only time will tell. 13.01.2022 Today’s meeting had a few disappointments but the ex Hong Kong gallopers BRACCENBY and DATE NIGHT both got the job done giving owner Cory Jones his first double as an owner, and a double for our stable! These two horses arrived on about the 2nd of June 2017 out of quarantine and down to little old Tassie. Today our beautiful old marvel Braccenby clocked up his 8th win for the stable with Siggy Carr on board giving us something to smile about! We were hoping for an honest ...race out of Date Night for Siggy Carr and he really did deliver! Doug has been a trouble child from day 1 and has taken a lot of time, effort and patience to get to today’s result. We would be lost with out our farrier being so willing to think outside the box and go along with weird and wonderful things to try and help this horse put his best foot forward. 09.01.2022 At the Magic Millions Tasmania 2020 yearling sales the stable purchased only the one yearling. A colt by Charge Forward out of Maisie Lou. After what felt like forever Louis has a race name... LACERATE... they grow up so fast with his name through we are hoping he will step out in his first trial next week The last photo is our little bloke last week when we had to get him out of bed for a massage with Gaylene Renwick Padman. Big Buc is our first runner in the big smoke and we are simply hoping he handles the track conditions! He has arrived and settled in at Monica and Gerard’s like we expected as it really is his second home. He is in great order for the assignment today so fingers crossed it all pans out. 08.01.2022 The farm supervisors keeping an eye on Rowan while he was on the retiree feed out on Tuesday night Mediano was retired from racing in February three years ago and has been with us playing the role of grandpa, cuddle pony and all round legend ever since. He is one of the most laid back chilled out horses we’ve come across . After receiving a message off some amazing friends looking for a specific kind of horse he was pulled out of the paddock, saddled and jumped straight... on! In usual Camel style he couldn’t be bothered, he watched on as others got excited on his behalf. We bombed around the arena and plodded around the farm like he never missed a day of work. 07.01.2022 Racing wind up... CAULFIELD Aspirate said yeah no thank you to the track conditions which was our biggest concern sending him. He has won and placed on a soft track, but this was just too soft for him. While it was disappointing to watch, when push came to shove out wide he didn’t go a yard on it. Big Buc may love playing in the mud and water but he sure doesn’t like racing on a softer track! 03.01.2022 Race rundown for launceston tonight! ASPIRATE put on a show leading very strongly until he was asked to fight on and didn’t handle the wet track, we knew there was a strong chance of that happening but he will get a lot from the run. SKWOSH copped a lot of starting and stopping through out the run with plenty of carnage happening in front. Her run was better than it looked and not disappointed in her efforts. ... DATE NIGHT got the perfect run in transit with Codi Jordan leading through out to win by a nose. We are absolutely thrilled to give Codi her first win as an apprentice jockey and put her on the board. Doug has proven many times he can be difficult and when he starts throwing his head and bouncing around he puts himself out of contention. Leading and letting him slide is the best way to keep him behaving and fighting to the line. BRACCENBY the old war horse was pretty much identical to Aspirate, travelled well through out the run behind the speed but really didn’t handle the surface. The old warhorse will head for a freshen up and we will go from there, he owes us nothing. #hamerracing #tritonlodge #lifeonthehill

Spike gives us a very satisfying win having watched him grow from the gangly cute little foal we first met, to the sweet gelding he has become. He still raced greenly tonight so he will gain a lot from the run.
