25.01.2022 ’ Spark in the Dark’ is an event that encourages people to turn off their lights for one minute and light a candle or shine a torch to thank our frontline workers tonight at 730pm. CFA has not organised this event but have received calls about lighting a bonfire in appreciation. Whilst we appreciate the sentiment please consider an alternative as it is very windy in some areas putting a bonfire at high risk of becoming out of control. If you light a candle please ensure it... is probably extinguished and is supervised by an adult . We appreciate your understanding and together we thank all the frontline workers.

Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways. * If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible. * Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees. * Stay away from fallen powerlines always assume they are live. * Stay informed monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency.

13.01.2022 Are you burning off or planning to burn off? Do you know if your shire is under fire restrictions or in the Fire Danger Period? Are you burning the appropriate Garden waste? There is a lot to think about before you light up. Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility Before burning off:... Check and follow local regulations or laws set down by CFA or your local council this is year found Notify neighbours at least two hours before starting the burn Notify the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (ESTA) on 1800 668 511 Check the weather forecast for the day of the burn and a few days afterwards. Fires can burn for days. Check the fuel moisture conditions Establish a fire break of no less than three metres clearance of all flammable material Make sure there are enough people to monitor, contain and extinguish the burn safely and effectively. Register your burn-off All burn-offs should be registered with ESTA on 1800 668 511. Please provide the following information about your burn-off when registering: > Location > Date and expected start and finish times > Estimated size > What you intend to burn Unregistered burn-offs can cause brigades to be called out unnecessarily.

11.01.2022 Most fatal fires start at night and the smell of smoke alone won’t wake you up. For the safety of you and your loved ones install smoke alarms in all living an...d sleeping areas and ensure they are interconnected so when one alarm activates, they all sound. #SilenceIsDeadly www.cfa.vic.gov.au/silenceisdeadly

10.01.2022 Campers are urged to obey the following campfire regulations, if it’s not a Total Fire Ban day: Use a purpose-built fireplace where provided, otherwise light... your campfire in a trench at least 30cm deep. Ensure the trench is no larger than one square metre in size and the area around the trench is cleared of flammable material up to three metres in all directions, including above the campfire. Branches and logs on your campfire must be less than one metre long keep your fire just big enough for warmth and cooking. Never leave a campfire alight or unattended. You must maintain a 50-metre line of sight of the campfire at all times. An adult must be present at all times when the campfire is alight. Ensure your campfire is completely extinguished using water, not soil. Under the Forest Act 1958, on-the-spot fines of $496 can be issued to people breaching campfire safety rules. The maximum penalty for lighting a fire during a Total Fire Ban is $39,652, two years in jail or both. There are locations where you can not light fires, these can include Parks and beaches. Always check for any restrictions applying to your specific area. There are heavy fines if you get caught.
