25.01.2022 Sometimes you have to take the window display to full high-end luxury mode.

23.01.2022 One modern development that i just love - myopia control contact lenses. In ye olden days, when young people went shortsighted, they would always get worse - more and more blurred for the distance vision (like this painting by Philip Barlow). They would usually need stronger glasses every year or so. Eye exercises don't help, and valuable nerdy pursuits like study and reading tended to make it worse. Now the kids can wear these special contact lenses and their myopia often do...esn't get any worse. If it does change, the research shows it is half what it would have been. This helps lots of people not need thick strong full time glasses, and reduces the risks of retinal detachment, glaucoma and more. The contact lenses are comfortable soft one day disposable lenses worn during the day. I've been prescribing these lenses for two years now and they work amazingly well. Young people from around age 10 to mid-20s use them without any difficulty. It is so great to be able to recommend a treatment that gives good vision straight away, and major long term advantages. Nice one, scientists.

18.01.2022 The people to see when you can't. We are open and improving people's vision as usual. Come along and see Dr Lauren Kimmel or Lloyd, along with optical dispensers Amanda, Sally, Jane and Sarah Gormley (previously at Smart Eyes Charlestown).

17.01.2022 Hope everyone has good vision today - mine is a little foggy. I will be back on Friday. Thanks to Lauren, Sally, Sarah, Jane and Amanda for working hard in my absence.

13.01.2022 Throw back Thursday. 1995. This is taken soon after I started working at Hamilton, in the consulting room we just revamped and upgraded that year. Not a single item from that photo is in my room these days! Love the improvements in technology over this time.

11.01.2022 We are closed today, while everyone is seeing in 2020.

10.01.2022 Spring colours in the window.

09.01.2022 Brighten your outlook with some new colourful frames.

08.01.2022 The practice will be closed on Friday October 2 from 11am to 2pm so that our staff can attend the funeral for Amanda's father. Our deep sympathy goes to Amanda and the family at this time.

07.01.2022 Diabetes is a relentless, challenging and common condition. When not well controlled, it can cause significant harm to the body. This retina image taken yesterday shows what happens when diabetes combines with hypertension - the blood vessels are damaged and bleed. The retina doesn't get enough oxygen and can partially die. If you have diabetes, make sure you get proper eye care. An annual laser scan like this is easy and informative. #NationalDiabetesWeek #HeadsUpOnDiabetes

06.01.2022 Happy Easter! Hope you are having a good one. Remember that chocolate is an essential nutrient for good vision and 2020 survival - science will catch up with these facts eventually.

06.01.2022 It's kinda interesting that in my consulting rooms i can scan your retina with a hi-res laser, measure the pressure of your aqueous humour, assess your retinal nerve fiber layer and image a cross section of your macula. Yet i still ask you to read letters on a chart, an idea that was developed in 1862 by Dr Snellen. 20/20 vision means you can see a certain size letter at 20 feet, and Dr Snellen went to the trouble of working out that size. In Australia we say 6/6 vision, whic...h is the same idea but in metric (6metres). 20/20 means you have normal, good vision. It does not mean perfect sight, or whether you need glasses or not. It is interesting that for all these years, it is still a really useful measure of vision, and assessing if glasses are helpful. In any case, you will be hearing the term more often this year. Sometimes used correctly.

02.01.2022 Frames that are translucent and colourful, are one of the popular styles. The lighter shade allows your glasses to be interesting without being dominating.

01.01.2022 Happy Christmas to you all from my work family. Grateful to all our many lovely patients for another excellent year. Looking forward to the upcoming year of great vision.
