25.01.2022 Hamilton Prime Cattle Market Report 19/06/2020 In a reduced yarding, Agents put forward 84 head, comprising of 36 cows, 33 trade, 11 bulls and 4 bullocks. The usual buyers attended in what was a dearer market for cows and bulls.... The steer category was very limited in supply for all weights and grades, with the light weights topping at 300c/kg and average 286cents to be firm on last week for quality. Medium weights of 350-500kg averaged 333c/kg but once again were in limited supply and there were no grown steers to quote. The heifer run consisted of predominantly grown heifers over 500kg, with the best of these returning 332 cents to be firm to slightly stronger on last week. Light weight heifers lacked breeding and quality and therefore showed an easier trend. Cows this week were once again highly sought after, and with only 36 presented, all weights and grades were keenly chased. The best of the beef bred cows topped at 320c/kg, and averaged 293 cents to be 5-8 cents stronger than last week. Light weight cows were also dearer, with fat score 1s and 2s still returning 260-270cents. Bullocks were in short supply again and sold to 300c/kg for both beef and dairy bred cattle. Bull numbers remained similar to last week and sold to stronger competition to see a jump of 20 cents on all weights and grades. The heavy weights topped at 322 cents and averaged 295c/kg.
