11.01.2022 BRE Engine Tech PSA! What happens when you have a lifter fail? Where does all that material go? Some people just replace the cam, lifters, oil & filter and thi...nk that everything will be fine Wrong! All that ground up metal drops into the oil getting whipped around by the crank and rods splashing up onto the cylinder walls and embeds into the piston skirts (see photos). This customer Brian Havlik Jesse Havlik of Hot Rods by Havlik's was on top of his maintenance and caught it early, unfortunately damage was done. The oil filter did its job (see pic of bearing still looks new) but unfortunately the material must go thru the oil pump first scaring it up as well. This is not our build originally and we found several issues with it but the problem generally starts from floating the lifter off the lobe, then slamming down and flattening the little needle bearings inside the big wheel, causing it not to spin freely as it starts to eat itself. It is a common problem so much that most companies have reengineered lifters to now run a bushing in lieu of needle bearings giving us a more reliable lifter especially for endurance applications. Please do not take this lightly, you lose a lifter tear it down! 04.01.2022 This oil hole, in the Big End neck, typically allows pressure fed oil to squirt out onto the thrust side of thecylinder wall to lubricate the travel of the pist...ons and piston rings. By adjusting the angle of this squirt hole you can direct some oil up to the piston for additional cooling and improved lubrication of the pin end, although due to the changing angle of the rod to piston this does not provide oil to this area 100% of the time.
