25.01.2022 Meet Ms Crane Hi! My name is Holly and I will be joining the Science department at Hammond Park. I have spent the last three years teaching Science across both Primary and Secondary schools. I aim to deliver exciting lessons that model real-world applications of Science and inspire students to make a difference in their community. My students can expect to feel supported and motivated to achieve their absolute best.... I’m looking forward to joining the Hammond Park community and can’t wait to meet students and parents in 2021.

25.01.2022 My name is Andrew Wright, and I am very excited to begin my teaching journey at Hammond Park in 2021. I have a Bachelor of Secondary Education, having studied Physical Education and Health and Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS)at Edith Cowan University. Having spent over a decade in construction and several years coaching u19 American football, I bring with me a wealth of experience in building and fostering positive relationships with students, parents, and clients. Worki...ng with apprentices and athletes has cultivated my passion for inspiring young people to value knowledge and learning throughout life. I acknowledge that all students are individual learners, and providing a learning space that supports personal development and wellbeing is at the core of my classroom ethos. I am a lifelong lover of history and social sciences, particularly ancient history (developed after a short stint studying archaeology at UWA!), so I can’t wait to get cracking on some exciting subjects with my Hammond Park students. I am looking forward to meeting the Hammond Park community, and getting started next year!

23.01.2022 Meet Jessica! Hi my name is Jessica Luk and I am super excited to be joining the Maths team at Hammond Park Secondary College. I graduated from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Education degree. For the past 3 years I have been teaching Mathematics and Science in the South West and I am happy to be back in Perth. Being a Maths teacher, not only do I get to do Maths everyday (win!) but I also have the opportunity to interact with so many different individuals with a varie...ty of interests. I love getting to know people and it is what makes my job so enjoyable. I value developing my relationships with students in the classroom, as well as with the broader school community. In my spare time I love to bake and cook new recipes, practice calligraphy or play a game of volleyball or badminton (I am not great at it, but hey, it is a fun time!), I look forward to meeting everyone next year and be a part of the great community at Hammond Park SC.

21.01.2022 Hi, my name is Jeanette Neil and I’m super excited to be joining Hammond Park Secondary College as an Education Assistant in 2021! I have been working in high schools for the last 12 years. During that time I have worked across all learning areas with students ranging from Year 7 to Year 12 and I think even my maths is starting to improve. Providing assistance in mainstream classes, working with students at academic risk, and delivering direct instruction literacy programs h...as given me valuable experience. This helps me to support students with a range of additional needs who face learning challenges. 18.01.2022 Heartfelt thank you to the Webb family for their lovely gift of some Christmas decorations for our new tree in Admin. The words represent the Class Charter words developed by the students through Homeroom. These words represent how our current Year 7 students want to be known and remembered and now they hang proudly on our tree with a foundation ornament. We are grateful for the kind gift.

18.01.2022 Congratulations to all Year 7 English students who bravely shared their writing yesterday in the writer’s workshop. The purpose of the workshop is to share students’ writing with an authentic audience and seek constructive feedback using the PQP: Praise, Question, Polish format. Staff across the college were invited to join the café style workshops to give feedback to students. A big thank you to staff who gave freely of their time to share this experience with our students, ...and to our fabulous English team Miss Chapman and Mrs Corbett for their organisation and guidance. 18.01.2022 Thanks to Miss Lane and the Year 7 Food Technologies classes for putting on a morning tea to showcase their cooking skills and culinary talent. Even providing gluten free options, the students celebrated and shared their highlights of the course, what they learned and what they found challenging with invited teachers before digging in to a yummy feast of delights!! Let's hope for parents sake, they don't leave these skills at school and allow you to put your feet up one evening while they cook dinner!!!

10.01.2022 Meet our new Visual Arts teacher. Hello everyone! My name is Gabrielle Kotai, and I am excited to be joining Hammond Park Secondary College as the new Visual Art teacher. For the past 5 years, I have worked in the private system and have taught Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS) and English. Prior to this, I taught a range of Arts subjects including Visual Art, Drama and Digital Design. I have also been responsible for the pastoral needs of a Year 8 Homeroom, which has en...hanced my teaching and has been very rewarding. Before a career in education, I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Set and Costume Design at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and was involved in designing sets and costumes in the theatre industry. I bring to the college a passion for the Arts and hope to cultivate a deep respect for arts subjects through fun, challenging and innovative projects. I am delighted to be joining such a lovely staff cohort in a progressive school, with a focus on wellbeing, relationships, connection and innovation. I look forward to working with the wonderful staff, students and parents, and the wider school community at Hammond Park SC.

10.01.2022 Hello Hammond Parkians, I’m Dean Mercer (unfortunately not the extremely successful triathlete) and I’ll be joining the Hammond Park Team as the new English Teacher in 2021. Saying I’m excited is a bit of an understatement. I hope to make the most of this opportunity by actively being a part of this amazing community and fostering the Wellbeing focus that the College emphasises to ensure students are happy, healthy and well-rounded. I graduated from Curtin with a Bachelor o...f Education and a love of literature that inspired me to form the Young Inkling Society a youth writing club - a club I hope to bring across to Hammond Park. Every year this love of literature also manifests itself around Book Week, where I dress up every day of the week to build up the excitement around reading and writing. My favourite part of being an English Teacher is the fact I get to teach the power of Language and how to use it artfully. To use language artfully is a skill, and a by-product of Language Arts is the representation and reflection of the real world and its history in the form of stories. Literature. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs places emphasis on belonging and through the construction of characters assuming they are accurately represented everyone can find a place to belong between the pages of a novel. Language can easily cut like a sword, and literature acts a shield defending us from repeating past mistakes to become better. We are responsible for passing on these powerful tools. With great power, comes great responsibility and this burden is willingly carried by English teachers. Why? If not us, then who? Who else but English teachers will spend hours upon hours reading stories, new and old, in the hope of catching a glimpse of the world reflected artfully through a marginalised perspective? Who else but us can understand the importance and foster the appreciation vital for a wider culture of reading that promotes enjoyment, not assessment. Bring on 2021! Dean Mercer See more
