24.01.2022 Introducing Dr Anna Gear Dr Anna Gear completed her medical training at Australian National University in 2008 with Dr Trish Overvliet, and received her FRAGP in 2014. She has an interest in chronic complex medicine, particularly diabetes management, asthma/COPD and osteoporosis. She enjoys working with children with complex needs, and has a special interest in ASD, developmental disorders, and behavioural management. Having spent a great deal of her 20’s backpacking in the d...eveloping world, Dr Anna loves travel medicine and all associated aspects of tropical medicine. She believes that medicine is more than just disease and tablets, and tries to incorporate a whole of person care which includes physical, mental and environmental approach. She is enthusiastic about gardening, particularly permaculture, and she and her husband are slowly turning their small property into a food garden. Hammond Health is taking on new patients, call now to register. See more

15.01.2022 Hello Beautiful People! I hope this post finds you safe and healthy. Its not surprising in this very busy, scary and disrupted pandemic year to underestimate how this is effecting our children. As parents we want to protect our children, I know I do. I have found myself "playing down" covid and shielding my child from frightening aspects of this pandemic. I certainly feel that we need to be careful with their exposure but also help them understand. I know I am not afraid to s...ay that I need help and guidance to help and guide my child. Here is some helpful information to look at if you sometimes feel like you need a little help too.... https://emergingminds.com.au//communicating-with-your-chi/ https://www.unicef.org//how-talk-your-child-about-coronavi https://childmind.org//talking-to-kids-about-the-coronavi/ Stay safe, wash your hands, wear a mask and social distance. Thanks for reading and be kind to yourself. Kind Regards, Dr Tricia Overvliet

15.01.2022 Don’t put your health on hold - Drop in for a tune up! As the winter months approach, your health is still in need of care and consideration. Even in this covid pandemic, chronic conditions should be monitored, and care planning put in place to reduce risks in winter. In this way, we try to reduce vulnerability rather than just focus on acute winter responses. Studies suggest that heart conditions and respiratory conditions show increased exacerbations over the winter months... with significant consequences. There are various possible reasons for this including change in temperature, food habits, physical activity and infections. As winter is upon us we see joint and muscle pain, dryness of skin and eye and there is even a change in some our hormones over the winter months! We also sometimes see a deterioration in mental health conditions as the days become shorter and skies darken earlier. This up trend in medical conditions is not completely understood but as GPs we know that this exists. We have already had some stressful times with covid, having changed our habits going into winter which could potentially increase this trend further. There is a sense of fear and reluctance to see our doctors due to covid, but this is not the time to put our health on hold. This is the time to see your GP and make sure you head into winter at your healthy best. As restrictions are lifted we are starting to see more people for face to face consults. We have planned to do this in careful ways to prevent the spread of covid and keep everyone safe. So don’t put your health on hold, drop in for a tune up and let us help you maintain your health. Kind Regards, Dr Tricia and the Hammond Health Family. See more
