25.01.2022 We will be back...but not this week! The seemingly inevitable has happened and that means no more bowls of any kind at Hampton for a while. But Club President Ivan Silver is upbeat as usual. "We'll be back as soon as they let us, and your committee will be working to make sure it happens as easily as possible for our members".... You can expect more news from the club before long, with news and fun from the bowls world. And you can send newsletter contributions to [email protected]

24.01.2022 Round 2 of the lockdown photo competition is complete and here are some of the entries. The winners will be announced soon

22.01.2022 Fours Champions make it two in a row. And they promised to come back for a threepeat next year! But before accepting the cup the winning team of Peter Murray, Geoff Magrin, Ellen Coulson and Rob Coulson had a really tough come-from-behind match against Nellie Kosta, Dee Rankine, Carol Finlay and Doug Challman. Doug and his team-mates got off to the dream start and built a solid 9-3 lead at the halfway stage. But a breakthrough tenth end of 3 gave the champions a platform and they continued to press with Ellen proving the X-factor, at one point dropping the jack into the ditch for an unbeatable bowl in the ditch. So the turnaround was complete when they went into the last end with a five shot lead and won eventually 16-12. Both sides had produced some great bowls at times and so there were welcome drinks all round after the game.

21.01.2022 Our booking schedule for the week commencing May 25 is available. There are sessions at 12 noon and 2 pm on each of three days: Tuesday, Friday and Saturday Call Rob Coulson to book on 0416 286 978 or email [email protected]

20.01.2022 Bowls Victoria worked hard with the Victorian Government to enable practice bowling subject to certain conditions effective immediately Consequently, the club will open for specific bowling sessions in the next week although the clubhouse will not be open. And again there will be a "manager" appointed to each session to ensure we comply The members' sessions are:... Tuesday July 14 12 noon-1.30 pm Wednesday July 15 12 noon-1.30 pm Friday July 17 12 noon-1.30 pm Saturday July 18 12 noon-1.30 pm and also 2 pm-3.30pm The conditions are: Maximum of 10 people per green, and a maximum of 2 people per rink. We will normally have up to two greens open, enabling up to 19 players plus manager. 1.5m minimum distance must be maintained between each rink. All Jacks & Mats must be cleaned and disinfected before and after use, and only handled by one person. Club members only at these sessions Bookings are necessary this week. Email [email protected] or call 0416 286 978. Rob prefers email over text if possible. ________________________________________ New to Bowls Sessions will also be held as follows: Wednesday July 15 at 10 am, and Thursday July 16 at 10 am Bookings are also necessary with Rob Coulson

19.01.2022 NEW BOWLS SCHEDULE This week we have added an extra day, since we are still stuck at 10 players per session. Tuesday has been added, but you will notice that the times offered co-incide with the normal time for Midweek Pennant. Accordingly, we are preferencing those people who are going to play Midweek pennant on Tuesday.... Theoretically we are only a month or so away from starting up pennant so we are going to provide opportunities for players to prepare. The schedule is: Tuesday 10 am and 12 noon Wednesday 12 noon and 2 pm Thursday 12 noon and 2 pm Saturday 12 noon and 2 pm As usual, you need to book by emailing [email protected] or phoning 0416 286 978 The email is now working properly. If there is a late to the schedule (e.g. weather like we had yesterday) then keep an eye on the website home page and facebook.

17.01.2022 Did you know that one of our long standing members Gino Biagi had his 90th birthday last month? Well, because of the restrictions it was a quiet one, but perhaps we can all raise a glass to our dear friend who seems to be enjoying himself here, and we can all catch up with him soon. Ciao, Gino.

15.01.2022 New State guidelines mean that some bowling can happen Bowls Victoria has announced that bowling can take place under strict rules. So Hampton will be opening its greens under the rules, and under supervision from committee members and volunteers.... Hampton full bowling members are permitted to go back on the green for a roll. The Rules for use of the greens and the opening times are below. The clubhouse will not be open. 13.01.2022 Pennant KickOff meeting this Thursday All pennant players, both Midweek and Weekend, are invited to the pennant KickOff meeting at 6 pm this Thursday. 11.01.2022 Handicap Singles Final produces something special. Bryan Dickinson walked down to the head. At 98-97 down and with his opponent Rob Coulson's bowl one inch in front of jack he took time to assess the situation for the last bowl of the match. He had put in two close ones just behind jack, but if it stayed as is, he would lose the match. And Rob had the back covered. So he took a deep breath and put in a perfectly weighted bowl to just grab the fourth shot. Wow! Bryan won 10...3-102 and is our new Mens Handicap Singles champion. Bryan's cool head was a feature of the match--he had previously saved match point on a hand he had not really played during the game. Bryan will surely win more silverware and we hope he has a long career at Hampton. Well done. See more
