The 2018 display included tools from the personal collections of Graeme Plaw and Warren Hewertson.

05.01.2022 We recently received a query asking to identify this tool and how it was used. A quick check with HTPAA members identified it as a macadamizing hammer and as explained at http://trowelcollector.blogspot.com//the-macadamizing-hamm : "The macadamizing hammer was simply used to break or pulverize stone for road construction. Other names are macadam hammer, nappan knocker, and napping or knapping hammer."

04.01.2022 A good video explaining how to use a travisher, particularly with a project such as chairmaking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJHSPSxfrTc

04.01.2022 We have been asked to help find some more information on this tool. It's apparently an edge tool stamped with the maker's mark "C T Skelton & Co Sheffield". It's about 24" long (65cm) including the handle. The tool is forged possibly from high-carbon steel. Note the upward sloping back of the blade. The shape of the blade does not appear to have been made by sharpening. It is in original condition and it shows little sign of wear. The handle is likely original and has a fain...t trace of varnish. It is held in the tool by 2 pins across the socket. The socket is oval and the split is on the 'upper' side of the socket, which may allow a downward or light to moderate chopping action. The current owner has had it for over 35 years. It was bought in England. The company identified by the maker's mark appears to have been started in 1855 and amalgamated with other companies around 1962. The owner has found no catalogs with pictures of this tool. Does anyone know the original purpose of this tools or any other information related to it? See more

03.01.2022 The August 2020 issue of HTPAA's journal 'The Tool Chest' is on its way to members. This issue has articles on The Corner Brace The Drawknife and the Jimmy Possum Chair Locksmithing Tools Huttons Hobart... ROTA Industries In My Shed B&S Die Makers Square For more information on membership go to https://www.htpaa.org.au/membership

02.01.2022 Here is another Whatsit for you to ponder. It has an interesting gear action that has the effect of rotating and raising/lowering the 'paddle' at the bottom. It is thought to be incomplete as it is missing what must be a winding handle and possibly an attachment to the 'paddle'. Suggestions have been that it was a baker's dough mixer or perhaps for an old washing machine. Any ideas or perhaps detailed information on this little device?

01.01.2022 Mystery C spanner marked "MAS Sydney" looking for info - is it for fire equipment, motoring, or what. Who are MAS of Sydney. Not on the HTPAA maker database yet.
