24.01.2022 The leather trade is one of the most dynamic areas where artisans can truly bring their creativity to a variety of products - from accessories to saddles and beyond! One artisan we tip our hat to, is Lyneece Garland, the driving force behind @garlandleathergoods - a bespoke design brand featuring beautiful leather goods made to perfection into the smallest detail. She started her leatherwork at Scone TAFE in 2007 under the guidance of Hans Van Hees, a well-known saddle maker and TAFE teacher in Scone. What do you love most about the leather trade? Wondering what the process entails? ‘First I cut and solder the silver posts which the timber is fixed to, then I turn a small length of Medicine Wood on my lathe. Once that's done I cut some thin rounds of the timber and fix then to the posts. They're then re-attached to the lathe where the final shaping takes place. After a few coats of oil and then wax they're ready to go.’... See more

Djenj dja komrdawh, 2006 Margot Gurawiliwili / Licensed by Copyright Agency These images are not to be reproduced without the approval of the licensor. My country is called Mankorlod. It is near the rock country. My dreaming is komrdawh (long neck turtle), the one I painted in my design. I like to eat komrdawh, it tastes really nice. We catch them in dry and wet season near Mankorlod. This is my first ever design, and I only have one design. I painted it with brush at Bábbarra Women’s Centre, and I feel proud when people print my design. The vines depicted in this design grow naturally on the floodplains in Arnhem Land and are used by women to weave and create fibre sculpture. The long-necked turtle and freshwater fish depicted are popular bush foods. See more
