25.01.2022 Happy ‘Rubber Duckie’ Day , yet another day of celebration Thank you again to the happy people at ClaudiaG Studio for sharing. Rubber ducks debuted in 1844 made from vulcanized rubber & produced by Charles Goodyear (yes the Tyre Guy). In the 1940s the first hollow, walking rubber duck was made - meant for land - but as indoor plumbing became more common in the 1950s, it found its way into suburban homes and bathtubs. Rubber ducks weren’t made of rubber for long, and ...as popularity grew production progressed into softened plastic - then into vinyl plastic but the name rubber ducky has endured. Some rubber ducks were originally based on Disney characters when in 1933 the Seiberling Latex Products Company licensed a series of Disney characters to make bath floaters - the most popular of these were Donald and Donna (now Daisy) Duck. Other companies took notice of the ducks’ dominance opting for a more generic duck design. Sculptor Peter Ganine created the now-iconic form of the traditional rubber duck in the 1940s - patented it - and reproduced it as a floating toy. He went on to sell more than 50 million ducks, making the rubber duckie one of the most popular toys of all time. Probably the most memorable moment of the rubber duckie - on February 25, 1970, it showed up in a famous bathtub ... During the first season of Sesame Street, Ernie made the ducks famous by showing off his own during a bubbly bath-time releasing his very popular song Rubber Duckie. The song, written by Jeff Moss, went on to sell more than 1 million copies - reaching number 11 on the Billboard chart and was nominated for a Grammy. Since then, the song has been featured on 21 different albums, recorded not only in English but also Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Spanish & Dutch! #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

25.01.2022 The Temporalis isnt necessarily difficult to treat, but it can be quite sensitive because there isnt much thickness to it because of where it is, it can be challenging to use a variety of massage techniques and stretch too. For the most part treatment involves petrissage (rubbing) with fingertips usually in circles and using enough traction to make sure the technique contacts the muscle rather than just knotting the hair. Trigger points can be released with broadly appl...ied ischaemic pressure. The Pin-and-Stretch technique can be particularly effective after releasing trigger points or when treating TMJ specifically and involves you opening your jaw as I hold tension on your Temporalis Muscle with my fingertips. Rubbing our fingertips over our temples is one of the most instinctive things we do, and it is the best thing you can do for yourself to ease pain long enough for you to get an appointment for a treatment in clinic. #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost #treatmenttipoftheweek

24.01.2022 Good afternoon my faithful Peeps ... I have just taken a late-notice cancellation for tomorrow morning, and so now have 1x 60 minute appointment available at 8am in the morning ... that is Saturday, 19th September ... Who wants it? Get in quick - or wait til later next week ,,,

24.01.2022 The human body is so complex and intriguing, and despite all we DO know about it there is still stuff ongoing research is revealing that we DIDN’T know (or understand) - including some amazing facts. While surfing for ideas to write about I stumbled across www.thefactsite.com/health-body ... so here we go Welcome to Fun Fact Friday Farts a fact of life! Farting is just as natural as yawning or blinking - as a bodily function we can’t avoid it and shouldn’t try to contro...l it too much but factually speaking about flatulence there are some interesting things to learn and understand, from the speed of a fart to what they’re made of & why the smell. I found these on www.thefactsite.com/fart-facts/ FF#1 99% is non-smelling stuff like carbon dioxide, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen and methane, while only 1% of a fart is made of hydrogen sulfide - the stuff that smells extremely bad. FF#2 The world’s oldest joke is a fart joke It would seem that toilet humor is global it doesn’t matter what language you speak when we’re all unified in our bodily functions, but apparently fart jokes are also timeless as well as universal. Something a little topical right now FF#3 In Britain they sometimes call a fart a ‘Trump’ (like everyone’s mate Donnie?) Something to spark healthy debate FF#4 Vegetarians fart more than Carnivores! Well, for the most part anyway. Generally speaking, vegetarians tend to eat more beans than their meat-eating counterparts TRUE - digestion of beans increases certain bacteria in the colon needed to break them down, producing large amounts of hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide gas = more farts HA! And lastly for this post FF#5 Farts are faster than hoverboards A fart speeds out of you at 3.05 meters a second! #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

23.01.2022 This is how I am spending my day today ... a few beers later on, but Test Match Cricket is the order of the day ... for the next few days as well For the last 15 years I have enjoyed these days amidst the atmosphere of the Gabba Members Reserve, but alas that was not to be this year Thanks COVID-19 for all the obstacles you provide ... ... I need to remember my positive attitude though and be thankful that the test is here in Brisbane ... and actually that it is being played at all ... And of course that I get a few days off out-of-clinic to enjoy it too As I post this the 4th over is in play, and Warner is already out ... not the best start, but hopefully Labuschagne and Smith can lead by example and give India justification for feeling anxious under-dogs for this the 4th & Final Test Match in Australia this summer ... 22.01.2022 Welcome to Positive Thinking Day Today being a Sunday means it is time for a funny or entertaining post from me, so with this weeks posts being focused on the Temporalis Muscle and the Temporalis Muscle being a Muscle of Mastication and Mastication being the act of Chewing, and chewing being how we take in nutrition and fuel and today being Positive Thinking Day of course, how about this The wider you can open your mouth, the bigger the food you want to eat can ...be so time to be the little engine that could and use Positive Self-Talk to open your mouth big enough to eat the big piece of cake #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

21.01.2022 Welcome to the MUSCLE of the WEEK Yesterday we talked about the Adductor Group of muscles at the inner thigh While there are 5 muscles in this group, the one adductor I have noticed to be tightest most frequently is this weeks Muscle of the Week the Adductor Brevis. The adductor brevis muscle originates at the inferior ramus of the pubis (the pelvis) and inserts into the pectineal line and linea aspera - the upper third of the femur bone. It is generally small in size..., but strong in action and you use this muscle every time you mobilise your body through your legs walking, running, riding a push bike, etc. While we know that the adductors primary function is to bring the legs together, a major secondary function of the adductors is to assist hip flexion and this makes them important muscles for athletes especially runners, and particularly endurance runners. Over my many years, I see tight adductors most commonly in endurance triathletes (Iron Man and Ultra Man competitors) and the one muscle that usually stands-out more than the other adductors is the Adductor Brevis. I put this down to it being smaller than both the Adductors Longus & Magnus, and therefore it potentially works harder than the others. Fortunately a tight Adductor Brevis doesnt appear to hinder an athletes ability to compete but if you continually train and compete with tight muscles you increase your potential for injury, and that would take you out of competition for months while you recover & rehab so dont take the risk make sure you stretch effectively (especially during training) and seek treatment before you desperately need it. #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost #muscleoftheweek

21.01.2022 Welcome to the 6th and last week of Eating the rainbow, following the concept of eating different coloured foods to support and boost different systems of your body. This week colour to eat by is PURPLE - and according to my information, purple foods help you live longer. A lot of people are aware and apparently it is even scientifically-proven - that the darker the food, the higher the antioxidant level. Antioxidants target free radicals in your body and keep you looking... younger for longer. Thus, dark foods with a purple pigment, such as purple onions, red grapes, purple cabbage, black mission figs, prunes, blue & blackberries, are known for having amazing healing powers. The purple pigment in these foods contain flavonoids, including resveratrol, which can help decrease blood pressure. Produce with purple hues also contain a variety of polyphenols that can reduce the inflammatory response in the body. Some of the general benefits of Eating Purple include: Purple foods kill cancer Purple foods are ulcer-fighters Purple foods are good for your liver Purple foods are good for the heart Purple foods prevent urinary tract infections And there you have it all those commercials on TV about using expensive beauty products to keep yourself looking younger, and taking all those laboratory developed supplements to stay healthy, and all you really need to do is eat purple Now please remember that I do not have any formal or official Nutritional Training, and all this information comes from www.chatelaine.com, so you know you can trust it #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

20.01.2022 Over the last couple of weeks I have strayed a little from the original format planning I was trying to establish for my daily posts, and this week I would like to get back-to-basics and return to what I started my thoughts behind this is to give you my faithful Peeps some regularity from my daily posts. My general plan is to start each week highlighting a general complaint or body region inspired by things I am seeing in clinic with frequency (like headaches or back ...ache etc) then discuss a Muscle of the Week (MOTW) associated with the topic of the week then discuss how I would treat that muscle or condition the follow-up with a Stretch of the Week (SOTW) focusing on the Muscle of the Week then add something fun and a little loose for a Sunday Funday post on Mondays I want to talk about Nutrition and what foods can support your general health and the last day of each week can be more general Why am I sharing this with you? Probably because this post marks the first day of the 11th week of Daily Posts for me, and I am starting to hit the wall. I want to make my content interesting and informative but I dont want every post to be all about anatomy & physiology either. I am always very open to your input and requests if there is something you want me to post about, then please ask away by commenting on a post, or by emailing me in clinic even chat with me when you come to see me for a treatment Please know & understand that my focus with all these posts is to generate interest and communication and not to be uninteresting or boring So tomorrow will herald the return of MOTW and this week we look at the Temporalis #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

20.01.2022 Happy Be Late for Something & Cheese Pizza Day Yes I didnt know these Days were celebrated either until the happy people at www.timeanddate.com told me when I went looking but who am I to argue? SO we have looked at 3 different things that can bring on pain in the Recognised Sciatic Referral Pattern, but do we think there might be anything else to consider as well? Short answer is of course we all understand how complex the body is, it would be naive to thi...nk anything could be narrowed down to just 3 options. What about Piriformis Syndrome? Anyone who runs with frequency has probably endured Piriformis Syndrome at least once in their lives and would be familiar with the knowledge that the pain pattern associated with piriformis syndrome is very similar to that recognised for sciatic referral. As the name suggests, Piriformis Syndrome involves the Piriformis Muscle compressing the Sciatic Nerve but there is more to it than just simplicity, so I will post again about this at a later date I just wanted to highlight that pain is a complex thing, and just because you might know the name of a broadly recognised condition doesnt necessarily mean you have it. And now I just want to say how the celebratory dedication for today leave me in a quandry I really, really, REALLY hate being late or running late for anything . But I LOVE Cheese Pizza So I guess maybe be late to go to the shops to buy stuff to cook for dinner, and order-in a Cheese Pizza ?...?... #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

20.01.2022 Remedial Massage Treatment for the Popliteus Muscle is limited by the size and location of the muscle. There are reasonable neurovascular structures that pass very close to this muscle and they need to be worked around carefully. Generally as I pointed out in Tuesday’s post I would choose to treat the whole lower leg first, to release general tensions and trigger points in all the bigger surrounding muscles. Then it is as simple as applying Ischaemic Pressure with fingers... or thumb to the Popliteus specifically. A cup could be used, but as the muscle is deep it may not be very effective Dry Needling could also be potentially useful, but much care & skill would be needed to make sure the blood vessels in the area were not pierced. The Popliteus is a muscle that is not specifically targeted very frequently, so it might feel strange and potentially a little sensitive (especially if it is harbouring a Trigger Point) as I work on it but the results can be amazing! #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

19.01.2022 Welcome to the MUSCLE of the WEEK 2 weeks ago, we talked a lot about headaches, and looked at differentiating between different types. The most common type of headache (in my opinion from years of experience) is pain generated from trigger points, and a relatively common muscle to develop these is this weeks Muscle of the Week the Temporalis. Many people will be familiar with the Temporalis, but how many of you realise just how big this muscle is? The Temporalis is a br...oad, fan-shaped muscle covering most of the side of the head. It originates from the Temporal Bone (above the ear) and feeds under the zygomatic arch to insert onto the coronoid process of mandible. It works primarily as a Masticatory Muscle enabling you to chew your food. As it is a Muscle of Mastication it can be heavily involved with Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction or TMJ Syndrome, and due to its location and frequent use it may also be a causal factor for tension headaches. The Temporalis Muscle is also relatively thin, and so it doesnt take too much to stimulate strong pain when it is distressed. Rubbing our fingertips over our temples is one of the most instinctive things we do when we have a headache when you do this, you are massaging your Temporalis. #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost #muscleoftheweek

19.01.2022 For the last 7 weeks or so I have been rounding out the week with a Pet Peeve highlighting the things that get under my skin as a Professional Remedial Therapist but that has a very negative connotation to it, and makes me sound like the Grumpy Old Man that I really am. One of my BIGGEST Pet Peeves is NEGATIVITY there is just so much of it around everywhere you turn. A wise person is known to have said that if you are not part of the Solution, then you must be part of... the Problem and so in recognition of that statement I am consciously choosing to be part of the solution as much as I can be, and just hope that I can help stimulate a change of mindset in my community. With that, this will be my last post promoting itself negatively as a Pet Peeve I will be actively chasing a Positive Perspective to promote every week now all I need to do is come up with a name for it any ideas for a name? #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost #petpeeveoftheweek

19.01.2022 Welcome to the 5th week of Eating the rainbow, following the concept of eating different coloured foods to support and boost different systems of your body. This week colour to eat by is RED - and according to my information, red foods can be good for promoting a healthy heart and blood. Many red fruits and veggies are loaded with powerful, healthy antioxidants (such as lycopene and anthocyanins) that may do everything from fight heart disease and cancer to decrease the risk ...for stroke and macular degeneration. Antioxidants soak up damaging free radicals and provide awesome support for so many body systems. Here are a few examples of what Eating Red can do for YOU Strawberries are a good source of folate, which helps heart health and are also a good source of the antioxidant powerhouse vitamin C which boosts immune system function Cranberries have been shown to cause the death of cancer cells in lab studies, and can also stop bacteria from sticking to the urinary tract walls. They may even prevent H pylori, the bacteria responsible for many stomach ulcers, from sticking to the stomach walls and causing ulcers. Raspberries are high in fiber, which we know helps lower levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or bad cholesterol. Beetroots are rich in folate, lycopene, and anthocyanins (powerful antioxidant) and if memory serves me correctly, they are also great for supporting Liver function and detoxification. Now please remember that I do not have any formal or official Nutritional Training, and all this information comes from www.webmd.com, so you know you can trust it #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

18.01.2022 Welcome to STRETCH of the WEEK Remember Stretching should not be difficult, or challenging, or confusing just follow the Core Concepts of stretching. Focus on increasing the distance between either end of a muscle, following the grain of the muscle fibres.... Hold the stretch for 20-30 seconds and Remember to breathe. Ease into and out of every stretch Dont bounce and Dont push through Pain Barriers When stretching your Temporalis it is always useful to remember that the muscle fibres run up and down - from the side of your head to the side of your jaw. Stretching this muscle will also stretch some of the other muscles in this group used for mastication (chewing). Remember the basic concept of stretching is to lengthen the target muscle along the grain line, and for the Temporalis (and other muscles in the mastication group) that is as simple as opening your mouth. Of course, if your intention is to stretch these muscles, you need to open your mouth as wide as you can just like when you are at the Dentist . #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost #stretchoftheweek

18.01.2022 Last week I made the conscious decision to contribute to stopping general negativity and support the power of positivity my small contribution through this platform is to change my weekly Pet Peeve to a Positivity Prophecy a chance to highlight things I am grateful for. This week I would like to affirm the strength of my business and express my heartfelt appreciation to our ever-growing community of clients for the continued support and patronage. Back in April everyt...hing seemed to stop while the global pandemic that is Coronavirus closed businesses and changed the way we all lived our lives clinic was closed for 5 weeks from late March to early May, but as soon as we re-opened our appointment diary filled, and has been brimming full ever since. From my perspective the best thing about this has been the way our appointment diary now runs about a week ahead and I would like to say how grateful I am that our clients are adapting with us and choosing to book ahead of time. #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost #positivityprophecyoftheweek

18.01.2022 Yesterday we discovered that there is a variety of problems that can produce pain in the recognised Sciatic Pattern today lets delve a little deeper into Trigger Points in the Gluteus Muscles. In my experience, trigger points are more likely to develop in the deeper muscles, so Gluteus Minimus is a prime candidate. The Gluteus Minimus lies deep to (or under) the gluteus medius muscle and Its main function is hip stabilization and abduction. It originates on the outside of ...the pelvic basin and inserts onto the Greater Trochanter of the Femur (outside hip). It is fair to say that you use your glutes (or Hip Rotators) much more than you realise, and probably care for them far less than you should. Trigger Points always develop in muscle frequently (but not only) after muscular injury and usually in connection with weakened, overstretched or inflamed muscle fibres. As the distressed fibres heal & mend, they can become twisted or knotted and potentially shortened and mildly restricting blood supply to the immediate muscle fibres. We all understand how complex Human Physiology is, and so of course trigger points can also be triggered (pardon the pun) by muscular imbalance, incorrect postures and body mechanics, poor nutrition, and everybodys favourite stress. Wherever they develop, Trigger Points are (in my experience) more common than just about any other pain stimulus for most of the population. The pain can be dull ache, deep, pressing pain, burning, or a sensation of numbness and fatigue. It is useful to remember that you may be experiencing pain stimulated by more than 1 trigger point if you are, the pain patterns will overlap. #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

18.01.2022 We have previously talked about Eating the Rainbow, but what about the importance of WATER. I always subscribe to the general philosophy that every individual body is unique, and so it is fair to suggest that every individual will require different amounts of any essential nutritive building block - either more or less than the next individual - to attain and maintain their own best personal health ... but having said that my google skills have allowed me to find informatio...n that highlights a few general observations: The ideal water percentage in body composition for FEMALES fluctuates between 45%-60%. The ideal water percentage in body composition for MALES fluctuates between 50%-65%. Water helps maintain healthy functionality of every cell & organ, and all soft tissue in the body. It also regulates body temperature. All human bodies loose water through sweating, digestion and even breathing. Some people will tell you to drink at least 2 litres of water every day others will tell you to drink 1 litre per 25kg of body weight every day which is the better recommendation? The simple fact is this as soon as you feel even the slightest bit thirsty, you are already starting to dehydrate! ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS The exact volume of water YOUR body needs will vary from everyone you know, and will be dependent among other aspects on these things: How active you are not just conscious exercise, but do you have a physical job? What type of climate do you live in hot, cold, dry, wet ???... Your general, overall health are you unwell, or living with a pre-existing condition? And of course, after a party fuelled by Overlanders Punch lots of water will help flush your system and clear your head trust me on this I speak from experience #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

17.01.2022 Happy Eat Outside Day Yes once again, I didnt know there was such a thing as Eat Outside Day either until the happy people at www.timeanddate.com told me when I went looking and with SPRING ready to pounce tomorrow, it is a great idea to picnic in the park and say farewell to the cooler months. Some of you who have been following these posts might be challenging your minds and memories you might be thinking that a post like this usually publishes on a Sunday and yo...u would be totally correct but I held it over till today (swapping the Nutrition Post to yesterday) so that I could celebrate the end of Autumn with Eat Outside Day You can do it with family and friends or go it alone you can glam it up with cheeses & wine or you can stick to the basics you can go to your local park or hike somewhere less travelled just do it! SO if you cant picnic in the park today, hold the thought and do it next chance you get #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

17.01.2022 Everyone - Please meet Barry. Barry has been a client of mine right from the very beginning when I was still logging hours to upgrade my original Professional Association Membership (with QAMT) from Massage Therapist to Remedial Therapist level, way back in 2001/2. As most of you are probably very aware, last Saturday I achieved the Career Milestone of completing my 20,000th Clinical Treatment.... A few months ago when I started counting down the last few hundred massages, I decided that I would surprise my 20,000th client with a free treatment in commemoration of my milestone ... While Barry wasnt the 20,000th massage - he was actually Rx# 20,008 - when I saw his name booked in I decided that he should be the lucky one ... after all - he has been with me from the start ... #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassagebrisbane #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost #countdownto20000

17.01.2022 I get a lot of clients on my table who report long-standing pain associated with deep muscular tensions Trigger Points & poor postural habits are also common but while immediate focus might turn to recent circumstances, it can be very helpful to remember how personal posture was affected over time. A recent case involves a middle-aged person who now lives with a mild rotation through their Thoracic Spine. This person works in a job that isn’t confined to a desk and lives ...a reasonably active and mobile lifestyle. This client has a good history of seeking treatment with frequency, and treatment notes reflect that while DTM, MFR and Trigger Point Release techniques are used regularly, the muscle tension and associated ache persists The client reports great relief after each treatment, but clearly the core of the problem is not being addressed fully. At the last session we delved a little deeper into postural patterns over the years and discovered that this client is a natural ‘Leftie’ but was going through school when harsh measures were imposed to turn 'lefties' into 'righties' and it is my suspicion that the postural problems this client lives with now potentially stems from that conditioning in their developmental years. Can this muscular programming be changed? All muscle has memory so you would like to assume the answer must be yes. How long would it take to make a more permanent change? difficult to say because there are many factors to consider. What is my point to this post? Change always needs to start inside your head & your heart Be dedicated to yourself to bring about permanent change Be ever mindful of your posture and how you move your body and stretch with daily frequency. And that is enough for today chat with your tomorrow #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

15.01.2022 Here's a thought for everyone ...

15.01.2022 This week lets look at the Adductor Muscles. These are the muscles of your inner thigh that pull your knees together they help you grip with your thighs when youre riding a horse and they also help stabilise your hip joint. To my reckoning there are 5 muscles in this group, and they are the Pectineus, Adductor brevis, Adductor longus, Adductor magnus & Gracilis. If we focus on the complete muscularity of the thigh, there are only 3 muscle groups Quads in the front, ...Hamstrings in the back, and the Adductors. Based on that it is fair to say that each group should make a of the muscle mass of the thigh, but the Hamstrings are really quite narrow in comparison to the other 2 groups so the Quads can be felt from the front of the thigh all the way around the outside to meet the Hamstrings in the back, and the Adductors can be felt from the inner thigh through to the anteromedial aspect of the leg where they meet the Quads. As a group the adductor muscles bring the legs towards the midline of the body but we all know that muscles do more than one job, and every muscle in the body will assist other muscles to achieve different actions and motions of the body. For example the Gracilis is the only Adductor Muscle that crosses the knee joint, so it also assists in knee flexion to a small degree. The size and shape of each of the first 4 adductors is very similar all relatively quadrilateral, attaching the pelvis to the femur bone, getting larger in size as they progress down the leg. 14.01.2022 Treating the Adductors isnt difficult or challenging for me (as a Therapist), but it can be quite sensitive to you (as the Client) because of how much they work and where they are located. Also, the inner thigh can be a relatively personal place - especially when working up to the origin of the muscle in the groin, and I find that generally people are quite guarded to let someone work in their personal region. Back on Wednesday we talked about how broad an area the Adductor ...Muscles Group covers from the medial side of the Hamstrings in the back, all the way around to the anteromedial aspect of the thigh where they meet the Quads and this makes it relatively easy to work on some of the muscles, but to be as effective as possible I need to bend your knee and open the inner thigh. I recognise that while this positioning helps me treat your adductors more effectively, it can also make you feel more vulnerable, so I always maintain adequate and appropriate coverage of your personal region with professional draping protocols. I also understand that having hands working your inner thigh can still be confronting for some and that is why I tend to use my elbows more frequently than not. The next question I hear you ask is wont it hurt me more if you use your elbows? and my short answer is No not at all. Those who have been following these daily posts for the last 11 weeks will be very familiar with the fact that I have been in this industry for 18 years, and have recently clocked-up 20,000 Clinical Treatments please rest assured that all that experience provides me with intuitive touch sensitivity even in my elbows and forearms #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost #treatmenttipoftheweek

14.01.2022 Sciatic Pain just another thing so many people come in complaining of. From my perspective as a Therapist there are multiple different things that can cause pain that refers in the recognised Sciatic Pattern so I thought I would shed some light on a few different things that might be causing your pain. Lumbar disc bulge. The referral pattern for pain will correlate with the dermatomal pattern of the nerve roots impinged but will generally follow the track of the Sciat...ic Nerve. Trigger Points. The referral pattern for pain can be felt in the hip locally but will also track into the lower back and down the outside of your leg to your ankle. Iliolumbar Ligament strain this ligament supports stability between the lumbar vertebrae and the pelvis, and when it is injured it can produce deep, dull pain. There are potentially many reasons why you might be feeling pain radiating down your leg in the recognised Sciatic Referral Pattern - it might even be 2 or more of the above active at the same time When you come for treatment it is very important for you to recognise how your pain feels, and exactly where you feel it including aggravating and/or relieving factors and relay that information rather than simply declaring you have Sciatica. The sensation of pain can have subtle variations depending on what is causing it pain with sharp aspect can usually be traced to direct neural compression, while pain that is deep and achy is usually associated with neural irritation pain that is relieved with heat is more likely to be of muscular origin, while pain that is relieved with cold is more likely to be associated with inflammation always remember that the sensation of pain can be unique to everyone - the more descriptive you can be about YOUR pain is best. #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

11.01.2022 We are all familiar with Trigger Points in muscles, but who knows that a similar type of referred pain can generate from injured ligaments? I have only recently been getting into understanding this aspect of pain, and anyone who has been in my Treatment Room recently will have noticed my new charts depicting the Pain Referral Patterns for most of the usual suspects for generating Ligamentous Referred Pain very much like Trigger Points, but in Ligaments not Muscles. When w...e look at the recognised Sciatic Referral Pattern for pain emanating from the lower back and then overlay the referral patterns for Ligament Pain Referral the obvious culprit is the Iliolumbar Ligament a strong ligament connecting and stabilising the fourth & fifth lumbar vertebrae to the iliac crest of the pelvis. Injury is usually connected to overstretching of the ligament, and pain can be aggravated by twisting or bending long periods of sitting can also stimulate deep ache. How would I treat this a kind of pain? Much like releasing trigger points with Digital Ischaemic Pressure or in more common terms pushing my thumb onto the ligament, and maybe using a little cross-fibre friction as well. Again just as for trigger points pain will likely increase while I do this, but it should subside quickly and be more noticeable when you stand up after the treatment is over. Is there any specific Self Care you should do at home after your treatment? Other than being mindful of your injury and careful with mobility for a few days there is nothing much else you could actively do for yourself until your pain resolves completely. Once your pain is gone completely, the next best thing to avoid it returning is to strengthen your glutes so they can provide better support for your lower back. #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

10.01.2022 POSITIVE PROPHECY for this WEEK you are limited only by the bounds of your own imagination There is far too much negativity in this world, but we all need to pitch-in to help make the changes necessary to shift the focus to positivity so, my small contribution through this platform is to change my weekly Pet Peeve to a Positivity Prophecy a chance to highlight things I am grateful for. This week I would like to compound the concepts from the nutritional posts of t...he last few weeks and draw on a quote from my favourite movie of all time ... LIFE is a BANQUET and most poor suckers are starving to death! That quote comes from the Warner Brothers Studio 1958 classic Auntie Mame starring Rosalind Russell the heart-warming story of an orphaned boy who goes to live with his only surviving relative his Auntie Mame and learns to live to the beat of his own drum. How does that relate to nutrition? We live in the age of creativity in cuisine you dont need to be restricted to serving the exact same foods as your grandparents to satisfy the need for nutritious meals has Heston Blumenthal taught you nothing? Molecular Gastronomy teaches us to use fresh produce as the building blocks, but manipulating that produce through skill and imagination to create foods that catch your eyes as well as your tastebuds remember its the nutrients in the fresh produce that creates the colour, that also carries the health benefits the rest is imagination, spurred on by a positive outlook on living healthy #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost #positivityprophecyoftheweek

09.01.2022 Certified Specialist of the Month! - Tony Logan-Stevens - I chose to become a Certified Specialist understanding that my clinic environment, policies, and pro...cedures would all be assessed by an independent council, comparing it against National Standards of Practice. Being Certified doesnt change how I work with my clients, but it does give my clients confidence knowing that the standards of my clinic are recognised as being in-line with national standards for remedial massage therapy. I believe being Certified demonstrates my dedication to my industry as a professional health care provider. The recent COVID-19 health crisis highlighted the absence of a single, national registry for professional remedial massage therapists in Australia and that led to remedial massage clinics forced into closure while other health care professionals were allowed to continue caring for their clients. As the Certified Specialist program assesses a therapists standards, and those of the environment they treat in, I believe it is the first step towards the creation of such a national register that can give remedial massage the same recognition as Allied Health industries. #certifiedspecialist #featureofthemonth Twenty years ago, I fell into remedial massage by chance. I trained at a time when there was focus on holistic care with attention to the connection and inter-dependency across the mind, body and spirit. My diploma included thorough training in clinical orthopaedic testing but also encompassed the whole person in treatment attitudes, and I believe I am a better therapist because of that. Fourteen years ago, I began working in a variety of environments alongside other health care professionals, then I opened my own clinic and now lead a team of contractors, providing treatment to a consistently growing client base. Please understand that looking for both Male & Female Therapists is not a discrimination thing our clients have always appreciated the way we like to maintain a balance across both genders with our Therapy Team we have always understood that different people may have particular preferences for a variety of reasons and we just want to provide choice for our clients. 06.01.2022 Welcome to Punch Day Today being a Sunday means it is time for a funny or entertaining post from me, so with this weeks posts being focused on the Adductor Muscle Group and thinking of stretching the Adductors requires a side-lunge manoeuvre and today being Punch Day, how about this The term punch refers to a wide assortment of drinks, both non-alcoholic and alcoholic, generally containing fruit or fruit juice. The drink was introduced from India to the United Kin...gdom in the early seventeenth century, and from there its use spread to other countries. My personal experience with punch most memorably revolves around my travels on Overland Trucks yes, Im referring to Overlanders Punch and anyone who has tasted this Beveridge (in whatever combination of ingredients) will likely share the same foggy memories as I do. In fact it is not unusual to need a wide-stable-base to avoid falling over after just a couple of cups of this Nectar of the Gods. And so in light of that information, and in conjunction with the topic of this weeks posts -dont stand directly in front of the Punch Bowl when you go to get a drink, but rather stand to the side and lunge in to dip your cup #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

06.01.2022 Last week we finished off our series of posts about Eating the Rainbow for Good Health. This is great advice, but of course you need to support that advice with a healthy mindset otherwise it falls on deaf ears. What do I mean by that? Simply this The health benefits of eating the rainbow are centred on the natural nutrients in the foods that create the colour not just the colour itself, especially if that colour is created by artificial additives.... For example here are 2 choices, which is better for you? Remember the colours we are eating are White, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red & Purple. Option #1: Cheese Nachos with tomato sauce with a glass of grape flavoured soft drink - followed by vanilla ice-cream and green jelly beans. (White vanilla ice-cream; Green green jelly beans; Yellow melted cheese; Orange nacho chips; Red tomato sauce; Purple grape flavoured soft drink) OR Option #2: Roast Pork with baked beets, beans & carrots with a glass of red wine followed by refreshing lemon sorbet. (White pork; Green green beans; Yellow lemon sorbet; Orange carrots; Red baked beetroot; Purple red wine) #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

02.01.2022 Welcome to Muscle of the WEEK This week let’s look at the Popliteus Muscle it is the deepest muscle of the posterior knee and it is the only muscle in the posterior lower leg that acts just on the knee and not on the ankle as well. It originates from the lateral condyle of Femur and inserts on the posterior surface of proximal Tibia, and while it plays an important role in the gait cycle (walking) it is more widely recognised as the main stabilizer of the knee. Injury ca...n be sustained either through direct force or overuse. Acute injuries occur after a significant force to the knee and can be associated with motor vehicle accidents or falls where the knee is extended. Overuse injuries to the popliteus muscle develop gradually and tend to be associated with biomechanical issues and tight hamstring muscles are often partly to blame. How would you know an injury or problem directly relates to, or involves, the Popliteus Muscle? to my knowledge and experience there isn’t a specific Orthopaedic Test that would singularise the Popliteus to identify it for treatment, but there are other tests that would rule out other structures of the knee leaving the Popliteus as the likely suspect. What Self Care protocols can you follow if you suspect you might have injured your Popliteus? much the same as for any other muscular injury really - Rest from aggravating activities and wear a heat retainer or knee support to protect the muscle and encourage blood flow. Complete rest may not be necessary but avoiding anything that causes pain or makes the injury worse should be avoided. Once the acute stage has passed gentle stretching of the hamstring muscles will help and should be done regularly. #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

02.01.2022 Some time ago I had a client who enjoyed playing Club Fixture Soccer, but he developed a problem around his posterior knee & calf. He complained of random achy pain that also affected how fast he could run. The leg in question was his striking leg (the leg he preferred to kick with), and it only bothered him about 15-20 minutes into a game rest seemed to resolve the ache temporarily but not completely, and he had been experiencing this for a few weeks before he came in to c...linic. Because he reported achy pain and no impact or injury, we agreed it was likely to be Trigger Point related, but which muscle was the trigger point in? First session we targeted his legs generally to resolve any compensatory tensions & triggers, and this helped us narrow the prospects to just a few target muscles and then we discovered the culprit muscle was his Popliteus Muscle a small muscle that is hidden away in the back of the knee frequently forgotten or overlooked - probably because of where it is. It proved to be causing all the trouble for this particular client, and after we treated it the first time he reported great improvement in his game then we hit it again a second time and he has not felt the same problems since. To me this story supports my general philosophy for treatment sometimes you just need to work broadly in the general region of the problem - be open and aware of how the muscle feels and the client’s responses to everything being done analyse the client’s reactions with consideration to the local anatomy, and let that guide the treatment. Do you feel random ache behind your knee’s? maybe your Popliteus needs some attention. #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

01.01.2022 Welcome to Nutrition Monday As I’m sure we are all VERY aware, we are beginning to enter the time of year when everything starts to become all about Christmas parties & celebrations and these style of events are usually fuelled with finger foods & snacks that are quite tasty & moreish, leading us into over-indulgence. I have said before and I truly believe that life is all about choices & balance. It has been a challenging year for just about everyone, and we all deserv...e to enjoy the tastier offerings that we find at parties just try to keep it balanced. I think many of us will agree that the tastiest foods & snacks are frequently those that have the lesser nutritive value over the less flavoursome options not to say that healthy foods are bland or tasteless, but Christmas is almost like a free-pass to be a little naughty with what we eat. Just remember there is always a choice when it comes to food, and choices can be balanced out over time so, if you have a party coming up pre-load your diet with healthy foods or cleanse your palette with fresh fruit every day just do your best to maintain your balance and you should be able to enjoy your parties without any lingering regrets. And if you are hosting a Christmas Party, try offering some healthy options to graze on between the tasty & moreish less nutritive choices. The image for this post was what I found when I googled ‘Healthy Christmas Snacks Food’ so many suggestions #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost

01.01.2022 Welcome to STRETCH of the WEEK on International Talk Like a Pirate Day Arrr Remember Stretching should not be difficult, or challenging, or confusing just follow the Core Concepts of stretching. Focus on increasing the distance between either end of a muscle, following the grain of the muscle fibres.... Hold the stretch for 20-30 seconds and Remember to breathe. Ease into and out of every stretch Dont bounce and Dont push through Pain Barriers And for today please also remember the Core Concepts of talking like a Pirate Arrr. Remember to say Arrr with frequency. Keep your hat on your head, and parrot on your shoulder at all times. The fibres of the Adductor Group run obliquely from the groin to the thigh and so to stretch these muscles you need to lunge to the side. You can go as deeply into the lunge as your feel comfortable, but if you want to get the most out of your stretching regime, you should try to increase your range over time. Just as for any stretch balance is very important, so ALWAYS stretch BOTH SIDES you can alternate to mix it up if you like stretching each side alternately until you have done the stretch up to about 3 times each side but dont lose your hat or your parrot! #handsfromheavenremedialmassage #handsfromheavenstory #bestremedialmassageinbrisbane #remedialmassageandhealth #remedialmassageandrecovery #remedialmassageandselfcare #handsfromheavendailypost #stretchoftheweek
