25.01.2022 Taken by NRM in 2018. The Gorge has always offered so much to so many community leaders in different fields. Multi layers and complexity of just beneath the surface discoveries. So much to learn still about this wonderful place

24.01.2022 WE ARE BACK ON THE ROAD - and driving super-carefully! Just when we thought it was safe to come out, Launceston experienced its heaviest snowfall in 100 years! Any snow at all here is a freak occasion but this one is off the charts. Tasmania - you never cease to amaze.

22.01.2022 MAJOR PROJECTS LEGISLATION - DON'T FALL FOR THE OLD MAJOR PROJECTS TRAP - GIVE US A LAW THAT WE CAN BE PROUD OF "Reckless spending and big 'devil may care' dev...elopments are the last things Tasmania needs in the face of possibly the most catastrophic global economic meltdown in 100 years." (Simon Bevilacqua Mercury April 11) "The Minister’s assertion he has no plans to declare the proposed cable car to be a major project falls well short of a guarantee the government will not do so. And the Major Projects Bill specifically refers to Wellington Park, and allows the Park’s Management Plan to be overridden in the process. It is obvious the Bill is being set up to facilitate the cable car; what other major project could be contemplated by the Bill in Wellington Park if not the cable car?" (Roland Browne in yesterday's Mercury) What you can do: 1. Read the Bill: https://planningreform.tas.gov.au//major-project-assessment 2. Read the Environmental Defenders Office brief: https://www.edo.org.au//tasmanian-draft-major-projects-bi/ 3. Read Planning Matters Tasmania "Major Projects AND Tas Planning Commission Review Submission Guides" (submissions for the proposed new MP legislation AND proposed changes to the TPC are both due on 15 May): https://mailchi.mp//pmat-action-pls-contact-your-local-gov 4. Make a submission by Friday 15 May: Via email or post to the Planning Policy Unit (see details in 1 above) Or use the Tasmanian Conservation Trust's submission template: http://www.tasconservation.org.au/major-projects 5. Write a letter to the editor of the Mercury: https://www.themercury.com.au//opinion/letter-to-the-editor Or via email [email protected] Together we can develop planning laws that we can be proud of PS Full Bevilacqua and Browne talking point pieces are in comments below earlier two posts: https://www.facebook.com/RespectTheMountain.NoCableCar/posts/2936790313035482 https://www.facebook.com/RespectTheMountain.NoCableCar/posts/2999705640077282 Image Credit: Mercury 11 April 2020 Planning Matters Tasmania Hobart not Highrise Inc. 22.01.2022 Beautiful scenes Wednesday morning down to the Gorge

16.01.2022 PLEASE SHARE - PLS MAKE TWO SUBMISSIONS NOW An insightful opinion piece from today’s Mercury by Hobart lawyer, Roland Browne. ‘TASMANIA’S Planning Minister Roge...r Jaensch says the proposed major projects legislation does not give the Minister any role in project assessment and lauds the assessment being conducted by a panel of independent experts convened by the Tasmanian Planning Commission (Talking Point, April 30).’ ‘Readers would be forgiven for believing the relevant minister and government have no involvement in such a process once a project is declared to be a major project. If only that was true.’ ‘Ideally, the state would identify the need for and suitable locations for major projects. Instead, we get whatever is served up by developers (often closely connected to government) and, invariably, these projects seek to use and exploit public resources for private gain. And they are often uneconomic and socially unacceptable. The government should not be surprised it encounters significant community opposition to major projects legislation, especially where the government is insisting on a consultation period that aligns perfectly with the COVID-19 lockdown, and where there is no identified and rational need for the legislation'. ‘The legislation must mandate the project is funded without state subsidy and is assessed without any political interference. This could lead to an assessment process we could all be proud of.’ Read on. PLEASE MAKE TWO SUBMISSIONS NOW There are two critically important submissions that are BOTH DUE ON THE 15 MAY 2020. Please lodge both submissions NOW: Make a submission to preserve and strengthen the independent Tasmanian Planning Commission here: https://www.planningmatterstas.org.au//tpc-review-submissi Make a submission against the proposed major projects legislation here: http://www.tasconservation.org.au/major-projects PLEASE SHARE

16.01.2022 Liz Pugh was always a wonderful caring presence and gave so generously of her time to this place especially the wildlife.

15.01.2022 Aaah! Just as it is...

15.01.2022 The Cataract Walk path has been a part of the Launceston Cataract Gorge since the 1890s. Workmen had to resort to dynamite to remove some of the rock for the co...nstruction of the path. The endeavour took three years to complete. This photo was possibly taken between 1910 and 1920 and the photographer was Alfred Harold Masters. The structure on the far side of the river was used to carry water to power the mill at the mouth of the Gorge. LPIC8-1-37 #LibrariesTasmania #TasArchives See more

13.01.2022 Here is another pair loving the Gorge in winter solstice for community good and inviting others

10.01.2022 Another lot of photos from David Brice

09.01.2022 For the strong and mindful

09.01.2022 Love her in all kinds of weather and moments in time.

06.01.2022 Whether it directly impacts on the Gorge or not this march forward to pass legislation that by passes local councils and citizens, is the most scary given this moment in time when the way onwards in recovery is seen to be economical development before our natural environment and long term future. The voice of the people should always be fundamental not two or three appointed decision makers.
