21.01.2022 The Conduit of H4H and H4H Students. I found my second home, Hands For Hope (H4H), in 2011 when I was in year 9". Xuan Nguyen of Long An province shared her H4H journey." I received a scholarship until I earned a degree in Agroforestry in 2019." Due to family difficulties, Xuan lived with her Grandmother from a very young age. She was a retired teacher who vowed to keep Xuan at school with her humble pension. ... Xuan’s grandmother passed away and her parents split up when she completed year 12. Xuan then followed her mother to another village and lost contact with H4H. Chi Doan, our Program Manager for Long An, whose story was previously shared, was a former H4H scholarship recipient. Chi spent months looking for Xuan after Xuan left the village. It was one of the most difficult times in my life. I lost direction, faith and I didn’t know what to do. I was in that hopeless stage when Chi found me. She encouraged and motivated me to continue my education and this is where I am today! Xuan was offered a graduate job with Finnish-owned company Kemira. However she chose a part-time job as an accountant for a small firm in Saigon, to be close to the H4H team an to further her education. She spends a fair amount of time helping organize events for H4H in Saigon, including fundraising events, student activities, scholarship ceremonies and other administrative duties. A true conduit of H4H and H4H Students. Congratulations Xuan for your determination and perseverance. We are proud and grateful for your loving and giving heart. Thank you for giving back. And the gratitude also goes towards YOU, our H4H supporters, who have made it possible for Xuan. "20 years, 20 stories" Thank You Edition Hands For Hope 2000 - 2020

21.01.2022 Hands for Hope (H4H) was founded in August 2000 by a group of young, passionate (and fun!) Australian Vietnamese who, after Linda cyclone crisis in Vietnam, appealed to the public to help assist the victims. H4H continues to exist as an organisation that inspires a culture of innovation, charity and active engagement within the communities in Australia and Vietnam, with the ultimate desire of supporting and helping our fellow human beings.

21.01.2022 A Program Manager Sucessor. 2 years after graduating from a Business degree, Chi Doan returned to Hands For Hope (H4H) and took the responsibility as the Volunteer Program Manager for her province, Long An. H4H reached out for Chi when Chi and her 2 siblings were at risk of quitting school due to family financial indebtedness and hardship. ... Chi has earned 16 H4H years; 8 years as the scholarship recipient and 8 years of serving and giving back. Chi has brought a beautiful gift for H4H on our 20th Anniversary, a gorgeous daughter and a loving husband who is always supportive of his wife, especially when it comes to volunteering for H4H. 12.01.2022 THE HANDS THAT GIVE HOPE Our work spans from North to South of Vietnam, across over 35 provinces. The Hands That Give Hope is a series of Thank You to the people who have been working with us quietly, resiliently and selflessly over the 20 years. Without them, Hands For Hope would never made it this far. We would like to show our appreciation towards the Venerable Thich Nu Lien Hoa, our partner from Bac Lieu province since 2006 to date. . The Venerable Thich Nu Lien ...Hoa . Since 2006 Hands For Hope (H4H) has partnered with Venerable Master Thich Nu Lien Hoa from Vnh Thnh village, Bac Lieu province - a rural area where people mainly make a living by fishing. . Mai Nhon and 3 other H4H team members went to Hai Trieu Am temple to look for me on an afternoon. Their foot were all covered in mud, as were their clothes, Venerable recalled their first encounter. Since the temple was quite far from the main roads, it was only possible to get here when there is no rain, so I wasn’t sure whether they could make it . Despite her worries, H4H has successfully organized many events and provided scholarships for 31 students in this remote area. . Many presents were brought to the kids during the Mid-Autumn festival event including lanterns, cakes and balloons. It was a profound moment, Master Lien Hoa paused for a few seconds. They’d never seen anything like it before, and it was only on that day that they’d learned what Mid-Autumn festival is really about. I am so grateful! . It has been 14 years since H4H started its journey in this poor province. Whilst some students unfortunately had to relinquish their studies in order to make a living, three have successfully completed their university degrees, making them Vnh Thnh village’s first ever tertiary graduates to date. A number of students who were sponsored by H4H since year 1 are still receiving scholarships from the group to the present day. . On behalf of Venerable Master Lien Hoa and the students in Bac Lieu, H4H would like to sincerely thank all of our sponsors and silent contributors for making a positive change in this village. . 12.01.2022 "20 Years, 20 Stories" - Thank You Edition. . M DUYÊN'S STORY . Although having lost vision in one of her eyes due to macular disease, My Duyen still feels she’s more fortunate than the rest of her family. ... . After her dad died and her mum was paralysed by a stroke, the year 9 girl became more or less the pillar of her home a place which barely provided shelter for her sick mum when it rained. . It would have been disastrous for My Duyen and her sister had the neighbours and Hands For Hope (H4H) not come to their rescue. . All the clothes, my bike and even these baskets were all given to me by H4H. Apart from their generous scholarship, which has helped me tremendously, I also did odd jobs to support mum and my younger sister, My Duyen remarked. . Knowing her mum had passed away as she entered her first year of college, H4H once again reached out to My Duyen and lifted her through this tragedy. . After 6 long years supported by H4H, the resilient young lady finally graduated and is now working at the Star Primary School near home. . Duyen is also married and is expecting their first child along, with her inter-university degree this September. A marvellous achievement! . We would like to wish My Duyen nothing but the very best for her future, and that she always draws strength from the love she has for us, as well as for daddy Phuoc and daddy Minh (as she dearingly calls our two volunteers), and last but not least our sponsors. . 12.01.2022 QUANG TA’S STORY I was born and brought up in Hue in a poor but loving family. I remember when I was a kid, my brother and I witnessed our parents running around borrowing money here and there to pay for our school fees every semester. Quang recalled. I promised myself that I will do well at school and will never let my parents down. Quang received financial assistance from H4H from grade 2! He has always been academically gifted. Quang graduated from University in 2019 a...nd was immediately employed as a Software Engineer by a company in Da Nang. I’m an introvert, very shy and I get very uncomfortable talking to strangers. However, I’ve built my confidence through H4H local activities and gatherings. Through the H4H-Vietnam Community I have found friends who have understanding and empathy to my backgrounds and situation. These friends are also H4H scholarship recipients, whose presence makes me feel connected and warm. I would really like to see H4H’s work continue and the H4H community grow stronger. I feel that it is my responsibility to contribute more to the hands that fed me for the past 16 years My short term goal is to continue learning and developing new skills, particularly my English, to help me fulfill my dreams and goals for both work and life. I’m ready to follow H4H’s footsteps and dedicate my skills and experience to contribute to H4H’s Mission in Vietnam. After 16 years walking beside Quang, wouldn't you agree with us that we don’t ask for more than seeing Quang succeed in life and now ready to give back. And thanks to you who have made it possible for Quang last 16 years. "20 years, 20 stories" Thank You Edition Hands For Hope 2000 - 2020

06.01.2022 20 Years, 20 Stories - Thank You Edition . Phuong's Story . Phuong Huy Phu graduated from university, with a double degree in electrical - electronic engineering after 11 years of Hands For Hope sponsorship. His two siblings Tan and Trang will also soon graduate in medical within the next 3 years.... . Like many ethnic Cham families, the Phu family lived mainly by farming and weaving brocade. Phuong, however, was different. Despite the days of catching crabs and snails, he was determined to keep on studying in order to change his life and use it to motivate his brothers as well as others. . It wasn't an easy ride. Being a dormitory student, Phuong barely had enough to survive each day. On the weekend, he would spend more than 2 hours cycling to work as a waiter, only to make a measly 150k VND ($10 AUD). Still, he would not give up his dreams nor agree to abide by fate. . All his hard work paid off in the end. Currently, Phuong is the operation manager of a solar power company in his hometown. A fine example of perseverance and persistance which would serve as an inpiration for many to follow. . Hands For Hope Inc 2000 - 2020 20 years of making a difference. See more
