25.01.2022 Tradies National Health Month starts today!
25.01.2022 De Quervains tendinopathy is a painful condition that affects the thumb tendons at the level of the wrist. This tendinopathy involves the thumb tendons that li...ft the thumb up (extensor pollicis brevis) and out away from the palm (abductor pollicis longus). Inflammation or changes to the tendons, the overlying sheath or retinaculum can result in impaired gliding of the tendons and subsequent pain and restriction in movement can develop. A hand therapist can help by developing a treatment program that is tailored to your circumstances and meet your specific needs. This will often involve fabricating a custom made orthosis (support) to allow the thumb tendons to rest, decrease inflammation and promote healing. As your symptoms improve your hand therapist will be able to guide you through a graded exercise program to regain full movement and strength of the affected thumb and wrist with the ultimate goal for you to return to your meaningful activities without pain.

20.01.2022 Mallet finger is when the tip of your finger is bent and you cannot straighten it. This is caused by an injury to the structure that straightens the tip of you...r finger, the extensor tendon. Injury usually occurs as a result of being hit at the end of the finger (for example by a ball) or as easily as pushing your finger down in between cushions on a couch to clean. An xray and assessment by your hand therapist will help to determine the most suitable treatment method for your injury. Conservative management is often indicated, and involves your therapist making you a custom made thermoplastic orthosis (support), which will maintain the correct position of your finger to allow healing to occur. You must wear the splint for 6-8 weeks continuously before movement of the tip can commence. Your therapist will instruct you on a comprehensive splint weaning program and gradual return to activity and sport.

19.01.2022 Arthroscopic decompression NOT recommended in the treatment of rotator cuff tendinopathy: A final review of an RCT at a min follow-up of ten years. 2017 "The na...tural history of rotator cuff tendinopathy probably plays a significant role in the results in the long-term. Even though the patients who underwent operative treatment had a stronger belief in recovery, which is likely to be surgical and the effect of placebo, the exercise group obtained similar results. In the future, an optimum exercise regime should be searched for, as the most clinically and cost-effective conservative treatment for rotator cuff tendinopathy. 08.01.2022 Wrist sprain is an umbrella term used to describe an injury to the soft tissues of the wrist. Soft tissues include muscles, the joint capsule, ligaments and ten...dons. A #physiotherapist can make a diagnosis of your wrist sprain and tell you which tissues appear to be injured, and how badly. They will then determine the most appropriate initial treatment for that type of sprain, which might include placing the wrist in a splint or brace by taping it. #choosephysio See more
