25.01.2022 Incredible day of gymnastics workshops, amazing community- thank you so much @fitness_alley_wollongong for having me and well done to all participants . Workshop recap: . 1 Workshop 1 (9-11am) was all about ring & bar muscle ups. We started with a couple of body preparation exercises, followed by strength and then straight into the key drills (before putting everything together). ... . 2 Workshop 2 (11-1pm) was all about handstand foundations . We went through key mobility exercises (wrists, shoulders & hamstrings), followed by body awareness exercises, key strength exercises & handstand progressions, handstand entries and partial wall handstands. . 3 Workshop 3 (1-3pm) focused on Kipping & butterfly pull-ups as well as handstand walking). 25.01.2022 Kipping Bar Muscle-Up Tip - the Take-off . The take-off (i.e the initial jump to the bar)is integral to the overall success and efficiency of the bar muscle-up! If your timing is off, done with an incorrect position or you don’t jump from the correct spot, then it all begins to go pear shaped very quickly! . That’s why it’s integral to follow these 3 important steps:... 1 Jump from behind the bar 2 As you jump to the bar keep a nice hollow position 3 As you catch the bar, your feet should be inline with the rig uprights whilst staying hollow (ie almost feel like you jump backwards slightly when catching the bar). . If you’re looking to improve your handstand or handstand walking then make sure to work on key mobility & strength exercises that help you get stronger in the back which ultimately makes you more stacked Also work on pushing taller and taller in your transition drills . If you’re finding strict handstand push-ups challenging, are you working the best progression given... where you’re currently at? Or are you unaware what your body is doing so you think you’re doing it correct but doesn’t transfer across to the end product? . This class largely focuses on bodyweight strength training exercises that leverage off the principles and foundations derived from gymnastics. All exercises are scalable (making it achievable for the more novice participant), but the real exciting factor here is the growth journey you can undertake! . Working on these key strength foundations quickly... opens the door to more advanced skills like pull-up & dip variations, straight arm work, muscle-ups, and even front levers! 11.01.2022 KEEP WORKING TOWARDS MASTERING THOSE SKILLS . As a much taller than average gymnast, challenging strength exercises like the straddle planche always felt way out of my reach and a skill my coaches never bothered training me in (simply because I was tall and gymnastics is always much harder when your tall - hence time was better spent else where). . Fast forward 15 years, if I had of known everything I do now as it pertains to not only all the specific progressions on... how to train the straddle planche, but specifically the hip mobility to actively get my legs as wide as I can whilst holding them up, I would have nailed this exercise 15 years earlier! If I can do it now, then a younger version of myself would have certainly had this in the bag! . What makes the straddle planche significantly challenging is the straight arm component of the movement as well as the strength in the hips to hold the lower body up - it’s used every muscle in the body . 08.01.2022 Yezzit looking very strong in some of the front lever skill work (programmed for advanced members only) that we did in last Sunday’s Gymnastics Strength class. . Very impressive for someone who’s 50 and never done anything like this when he was younger! Just turns up and consistent with his training over the last 3 years!! Age is only a number If you treat your body with mobility, learn good technique and know when to rest then anything is possible when it comes to achi...eving those realistic goals of yours . .
