25.01.2022 Last week, I came home to this! It took me 20 mins to clean up the mess. I was furious. I'm sure they had HUGE amounts of fun destroying what was one a lovely bed. AND I found a tennis ball, a kong, and a long-lost toy tucked under the lounge (ok, so cleaning isn’t my thing). In hindsight, it's is a good metaphor for creating great organisations. Some HR-folk can get carried away putting people in boxes with rating scores, job descriptions, competency frameworks, 9-box talent... grids, 50-page policies aimed at the one idiot who’ll do the wrong thing..all ways to ‘contain’ people rather than allow them to grow. The moral to the story? Sometimes, you just have to let people go wild. It might be messy and it might make you mad, but there could be a nice surprise at the end of it #hanlonhr #messyisgood #hrconsultant #doglife

17.01.2022 I’ve been lucky enough to secure a couple of engagements recently for HanlonHR. Unfortunately, they both involved redundancies and a reduction in working hours for remaining staff. It’s a tough time out there but being kind, fair and honest when making hard decisions has never been more important.
