21.01.2022 Did you know true cellulose acetate spectacle frames are made from cotton? Mazzucchelli was established in 1849, manufacturing combs and buttons made from animal horn, bone and tortoiseshell. It became an international company excelling in the production of semi finished plastic materials with highly technical and aesthetical qualities. One family, six generations maintaining over a century of excellence in craftsmanship. Many frame manufacturers use Mazzuchelli acetate for their high quality lines of plastic spectacle frames. The beautiful finish and longevity of the material that you get from true acetate is second to none. Watch the video below to see how Mazzuchelli acetates are made. https://youtu.be/kLwN0lHGQ-c

19.01.2022 Which way is it spinning? Illusions like this one make use of the complex interactions between the images collected by the eye and how they are processed. We don’t see with our eyes after all, we see with our brain! https://youtu.be/HC0GGkNZPgs

18.01.2022 In our early days, we had a small team. It was Thao, Grant and Helen. After almost a decade of service, Helen then became a mother and spent time raising her young family whilst working part time as a dental assistant. She is now back full time with us in the role of an ophthalmic technician. Helen assists the optometrists in their clinical consultation as well as helps patients with providing effective ophthalmic lens solutions. Her positive cheery nature is evident when you first step into the practice and she enjoys working with people of all ages. #hannafordeyewear #ophthalmictechnician

16.01.2022 The exclusive Coco Song eyewear collection pays homage to the golden age of Chinese culture and art combined with the attention to detail of Italian design. It originates from the desire to surprise with its use of unusual materials such as feathers, silks, lacquers and pressed flowers encased in the frame materials. #cocosong

16.01.2022 Due to covid restrictions we were only allowed four team members to attend the awards presentation last night and one representative to accept the awards. 12.01.2022 Masunaga Optical was established in 1905 in the Fukui Prefecture of Japan. Two craftsmen took on the responsibility of passing on their skills to apprentices to ensure the mastery of traditional spectacle frame making carried on over a century later. The reputation of the craftsmen led to Masunaga being commissioned to make three spectacle frames for the Showa emperor Hirohito in 1933. Click on the video link below to learn more about the history of Masunaga frames, available at Hannafords. #masunaga #fukuiprefecture #noooptics #craftsmanship

09.01.2022 Cataracts are a progressive cloudiness of the lens inside the eye causing blurred and dulled vision. If left alone, cataracts can turn brown and impair colour discrimination. Claude Monet was diagnosed with cataracts in 1912. His famous bridge over a pond of water lillies was painted in 1899. The same scene was painted in 1922, a year before his cataract surgery. #monet #claudemonet #bridgeoverapondofwaterlilies #colourvision #cataracts #colourdiscrimination #impressionism #impressionistart

07.01.2022 We’ve had a number of enquiries as to the best way to stop spectacles from fogging whilst wearing a mask. We’ve completed our investigation and have found the following two methods to be best: 1. Using surgical tape to seal the top part of your mask (ideal for those who need to wear a mask for long periods) 2. Using a folded facial tissue (folded several times so it’s 1-2cm in width) and placing it at the top edge of the mask (you may staple both ends to keep the tissue in pl...ace) Ensure the top part of the mask has a good seal by shaping it to your nose and cheek. The spectacles are then placed on top of the mask. We do not recommend using soap or other substances on your lenses as this could potentially decrease the longevity of the coatings on your lenses. However watch this space as we will be trialling a new product in the near future. Click on the video link below which demonstrates the two methods. https://youtu.be/7Rpna0mNXHE

05.01.2022 We recently trialed Nano Magic’s Anti Fog Safety Kit as recommended by Rodenstock and we are delighted to say it works with wearing masks! You put one drop on the back surface of the lens and use the cloth supplied to spread it over the lens surface. Reapply once your lenses begin fogging again. It is safe to use with ophthalmic lenses and there are 100 drops in each bottle. The kit is $15.95 and is available now. #nanomagic #antifogsafetykit

04.01.2022 As some may know, Grant and Thao study and teach martial arts outside of practice hours. Grant wore the Okinawan symbol pin on his left lapel as seen here in this photo last night. Their Sensei Robert gave Grant this prior to his passing. The 'Hidari Gomon' (meaning ‘Left-turning Honourable Crest’) is an ancient symbol of the Ryukyu Kingdom...There is an Okinawan folktale in which Hidari Gomon represents loyalty, heroism, and altruism. It implies a past full of struggle and hardship, but also a willingness to face difficulties, no matter what the cost -Adam Jones http://hsbudo.blogspot.com//hidari-gomon-ryukyu-symbol.htm The symbol represents what this year has been to many people. It may seem somewhat superstitious but perhaps their Sensei and our loved ones are watching over us all. #localbusinessawards #hidarigomon #heroism

02.01.2022 Thank you to Quentin and Alex from Designs For Vision for coming down this morning to do the final installation of the AL-Scan. The Nidek AL-Scan (pictured in the centre) is an optical biometer. It directly measures various features of the eyes including the axial length. Monitoring the length of the eye is important in myopia (short-sightedness) control as in today’s digital environment, due to an emphasis on sustained near tasks, this is contributing to children losing thei...r far vision much earlier than ever before. Another benefit is by directly inputting the measured axial length into our Nidek Retina Scan Duo OCT (ocular coherence tomography pictured right), the glaucoma and macula assessment becomes much more precise as your eye’s data is used instead of that of an average model eye. We are one of a few optometry practices to have this function of accuracy in data available to our patients. This is similar to Rodenstock’s DNEye Scanner (pictured left) where your spectacle lenses are optimised to your eye’s biometry rather than using the average model eye. By being precise, you can be confident that the best eye care and solutions in the world are provided when you visit our practice. To find out more, make an appointment to see our eyecare professionals. @dfv_anz @rodenstock.au #designsforvision #rodenstock #dneyescanner #nidekalscan #nidekduooct #nidek #nidekretinascanduo

02.01.2022 You don’t see with your eyes. You see with your brain. Did you know in the past all lenses were designed with the assumption you have an average sized eyeball? So what happens when you aren’t average? It meant the light rays coming into your eyes and visual system did not land precisely on your retina to give you best vision. Rodenstock’s biometric intelligent glasses are the first to provide a solution for each person by taking into account their eyes’ unique and individual biometry. No other lens research or manufacturer has technology comparable to DNEye Pro. See us today to experience B.I.G. Vision! https://www.rodenstock.com/com/en/bigvisionforall.html #dneye #dneyescanner #dneyepro #bigvision #rodenstock #progressivelenses

02.01.2022 Biometric Intelligent Glasses B.I.G. VISION is a breakthrough in over a century of ophthalmic optics! 1851-53 Carl Friedrich Gauss calculated the first theoretical optical schematic eye 1851 Louis Émile Javal constructed an early keratometer with Hjalmar August Schiøtz, this device was used to measure the curvature of the corneal surface of the eye 1856 Hermann von Helmholtz modified and adopted the Gaussian schematic eye... 1864 Franciscus Donders came up with the reduced eye which was an idealised model of the optics of the human eye 1898 Marius Hans Erik Tscherning was known for his theory regarding the mechanism of accommodation (focussing) system of the eye 1911 Allvar Gullstrand received a Nobel Prize for his schematic eye which has been the basis of ophthalmic optics until now Ophthalmic lenses in the past have been designed on the assumption the person using them would have an 'average' model eye. The best visual results would therefore only best benefit a person with an 'average' eye. What if we could now measure each person's individual eye? With Rodenstock’s DNEye Scanner, individualised lens solutions to fit your own eye’s biometry is now a reality. Watch the video below to learn more. See us to experience B.I.G. VISION. #hannafordeyewear #bigvision #rodenstock #dneye #dneyescanner #dneyetechnology #dneyepro #biometricintelligentglasses https://youtu.be/SqTx_twm8EI
