25.01.2022 This week we get the keys to our new home!! and we are so ridiculously excited For over 10 years we lived in a 4 bedroom townhouse. With 3 kids, up to 2 siblings living with us, a caravan, and 4 vehicles ... we had well and truly outgrown our comfortable little home (to say the least). I dreamed of having a home with acerage to encourage the kids to get outside and play, enough bedrooms, and multiple living areas so we can get our own space to hangout. To be able to h...ave a forever home to make our own, so that my children could look back fondly on their childhood and remember the love, security, and fun they had growing up. My husband Aaron added to this dream and insisted on a man cave, a big shed, enough space for a caravan and maybe even a boat . I said ... tell em your dreaming! But this is the week that our whole family can achieve our wonderful dream! COVID has certainly thrown a spanner in the works for 2020. I’ve personally struggled with mental health and burn out, and I know I’m not alone. But despite the uncertainty, despite the challenges, we must all continue to dream and walk (or run) courageously towards our goals. Regardless of the pace we move, we must continue to move forward. Be prepared to make the decisions that scare you most, because they are the ones that help you grow and ultimately live your best life. And if you need a hand to get there ... sing out! That’s why we are here Jacq x
23.01.2022 I wasn’t a happy camper today when I visited my Dr and he told me to reduce my exercise. Fancy being told to do less exercise and eat more. Goes against everything that I know about weight loss and getting fit. So then my Dr, being the wonderful man he is, realised he needed to use a finance analogy to get his message through to me. ... Jacq, you’ve exhausted your body this year working these crazy hours and not sleeping. It’s like spending money you don’t have so you put it on the credit card. You’re in debt! Oh gosh, I thought, I hate spending money I don’t have. He then went on to explain further, and it very much reminded me of conversations I have with my clients all the time. Conversations about helping them to get out of debt. Most clients want the debt gone ASAP. So they start strategising to make crazy repayments to get it out of the way. But then I remind them that, in most cases, it’s not practical. It may be fine if they are happy to completely sacrifice their lifestyle. But Most people aren’t - even if they have all the best intentions. I encourage my clients to find a win-win. Reduce the debt, but still maintain a comfortable lifestyle. This approach is far more sustainable and achievable in the long term. And it generally doesn’t involve someone snapping one day and going on a massive splurge. And like my Dr, often Hannans have the expertise and tools available to set our clients up for success and accelerate their journey to their goal. Not to mention the support and accountability. So, whilst disappointed that it will take me longer than first planned to return to optimal health, I know I ultimately want to choose the best path. So I’ll accept the professional advice, learn to be patient, and bit by bit with support I’ll get there. So here’s to taking the right path, even if it does require more patience. Jacq x
23.01.2022 I love the fact that Gmail understands me and understands that I like to pretend I work normal hours by providing scheduled send options. *Selects Monday Morning at 8:00am*. #AccountantsLife #TaxTime #WhatsAWeekend

22.01.2022 Well guys, it’s almost game time! You may think that we are feeling anxious about going into our busy season, but it’s actually quite the opposite. We are excited!! For me, the looming deadline and getting through our backlog due to COVID-19 ... that’s the anxiety part. ...Continue reading
18.01.2022 Tax time this year has probably been the toughest yet. Not necessarily because we have more work. But because we were not afforded our usual calm before the storm that we would get at the start of the year.... With COVID, tax time levels of work came early this year. Whilst we have powered through as a team, and as team we have managed to get on top and get through the work, the 80-100hour weeks over the last 6 months have definitely caught up with me. Through the strong encouragement of my business coach and mentors, I will be taking some time of in the next few weeks for some well deserved R&R (if I do say so myself). I am so fortunate that I have an amazing team who will be holding up the fort whilst I take some time off. I will be spending the next few days managing the handover to ensure work in progress continues to be managed and completed. Feels VERY strange to have time off during the heart of tax season. But health must come first, and doing tax returns from the hospital isn’t all its cracked up to be (trust me - I have done it before lol). I want to thank all our amazing clients for all your ongoing support and understanding through what has been a very challenging time for many of us. Thank you to my dear friend who spoilt me with these beautiful flowers. And to my other wonderful mentors who have been there for emotional support and business advice. Very lucky to be surrounded by wonderful family and friends who have been so amazing during this time. And thank you to the amazing Hannans team who will be covering the fort over the next few weeks to allow me to take time off. I know our clients are in good hands. Much love to everyone Jacq x
18.01.2022 Let's have some fun heading into the weekend. We like to think of ourselves as one big Hannans family and fur babies are an important part of any family. A photo of Walter (our office fish) wasn't very exciting so our wonderful client, Francesca, has kicked us off with a photo of pretty Poppy Triplett. Share a photo of your fur baby!! #Hannans360 #Hannansfamily #furbaby
17.01.2022 Today is a very special day. This time 10 years ago, I was very fortunate to have one of my very first staff members join our team. Congratulations to Gina Green for 10 wonderful years, and many more to come. I’ve never known anyone to work the way Gina does. There’s not a day that goes by that a client or staff member complements Gina’s efficiency, integrity, reliability, and quality of works. She takes pride in absolutely everything she does. I know that there would be a ...lot of business owners who would be lost without their friendly prompts and reminders to get their accounts up to date. Gina worked day and night to assist our clients through COVID-19, and sacrificed so much of her own family time to help others. 2020 almost broke us. But we’ve survived, and will go on to be stronger and better than ever before! I’ll be forever grateful for having the pleasure of working with someone as wonderful as Gina. I can’t wait to present your celebratory gifts to you at the Christmas party Thank you for your endless support and dedication. Lots of love, Jacq and the Hannans team.
16.01.2022 R U OK? This is probably the first time in months that I’ve felt pure joy. It’s been a gruelling 2020. ... When asked are you ok?, I’m so used to saying yes - I’m great!. Most of the time, this is genuinely how I feel. But lately ... not so much. To respond actually, I’m not feeling myself has been really hard. As a mum, boss, and mentor, I feel so much responsibility to have it together. So to admit that I’m human, and that it’s actually okay to not be OK all the time has been a challenge. But I must say ... I have never felt more grateful. To know that you can let your walls down and know that your friends, family, colleagues and clients are there to support you - wow!! I’m truly grateful. So here’s to being OK. But just as importantly, here’s to not being OK and having the courage to let your loved ones know, and the trust and faith that they will be there to share the weight on your shoulders. Here’s to love, support and understanding for one another Jacq x

15.01.2022 FINALLY, The love song we have all been waiting for!! #TGIF
14.01.2022 Okay 1 hour into my R&R and Im listening to the audiobook Why we sleep? (Thanks Nevada for the recommendation). Firstly, wow! I’ll be prioritising sleep moving forward. The negative health effects are horrendous. Secondly, and the point of the post, one of the key points that the book raises is that some of us are genetically wired to be either morning or night time people. I know I’m definitely a night time person. But then I struggle with clients (you know who you are ...lol) who are morning people and like to meet at the crack of dawn. Often night owls are labelled lazy because they struggle to get going in the morning. But really ... it’s not our fault! I’m curious, are you a morning person or a night time person? Im half considering adjusting staff hours to suit their sleep clock. I could be on to something here Also curious, how many hours do you get an average per night? Apparently 2/3rds of people get less than the recommended 8. I wonder if this is true for our Hannans followers?

11.01.2022 Day 1 of R&R and enjoying this wonderful time with the kids. Working so much has helped me to appreciate the simple things like school pickup and cooking dinner. It’s always been in my nature to give 100% to the things I do. To capitalise and make the most every moment. ... I love making cooking dinner a family affair, and using it as an opportunity to bond with the kids. You can see here how much my kids love being involved, helping, and learning how to cook. And being the nerdy mum that I am, of course I take it that one step further and subtly work in some maths and reading by following a recipe book. Knocking over three cans with one stone Below is a plant-based bolognese and pasta dish. Homemade sauce and pasta made of chickpeas and lentils. Kids couldn’t believe there was no meat. Yumm!! Here’s to making the most of everyone moment! Jacq x
11.01.2022 Our office has reopened post lockdown, however many of our team will continue to work from home for the foreseeable future. While the team are still available for you Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 5pm our office will only be open between 9 am and 3pm, unless by appointment.
11.01.2022 JobKeeper 2.0 Update The Federal Government has announced that the JobKeeper Payment (JK) which was due to finish on 27th September 2020, will still remain available for eligible businesses until 28 March 2021. This includes the self-employed and not-for-profits. The full legislation is still in progress. N.B. Nothing changes until after September, then there is work to do. ... Here's an infographic from Chartered Accountants Australia for an overview of the changes. We'll be sending out some more details about the eligibility testing and reporting requirements shortly, so keep an eye out for that email this week.
10.01.2022 We would like to send out a big congratulations to our wonderful Hannans team member Nevada who wed his childhood sweetheart Maraia over the weekend. I have had the absolute pleasure of knowing Nevada and Maraia for many years now. This year, we were very lucky to have Nevada join our financial planning & finance broking team. Best wishes on your wonderful journey, as you continue to build your lives together.... Jacq x
10.01.2022 Best thing about staff birthdays - an excuse to stop and appreciate each other. Love our Hannans family
10.01.2022 Today I dropped my eldest daughter off at school camp. The teachers laughed as I tried to hug her goodbye and she pushed me away, and ran off with her friends. Part of me was offended. But a big part of me admired the fact that my 11 year old daughter is on her journey to becoming Miss Independent. ... I love that she’s starting to get those wings flapping ready to leave the nest (hopefully not for another 10 years). In fact, I didn’t even pack her bag. I was a little worried that she forgot to pack undies or her sleeping bag. But I know that there is no better way to learn then by failing and making mistakes. So when she is freezing at night ... that will be a nice reminder to pack the sleeping bag . At some point, to thrive and survive, we need to learn to stand on our own two feet. We need to learn to engage in independent thought, rather than rely on others to tell us what to do all the time. As a leader and CEO, this is one of the biggest challenges that I strive towards when leading a successful team. If I have to be responsible for thinking for my team of 14 everyday ... we are simply not going to be a high performance team. Instead it would be me trying to move forward with 13 other people clutching on to my ankles dragging behind. We may not all be CEOs. But I know that each and every person has an opportunity to lead. Each and every person has an opportunity to step up and engage in independent thought, rather than simply sit back and rely/allow for others to make decisions for us. Of course we need to overlay training and competence, and be respectful to our mentors. But when your wings are strong enough, and you’ve got the whole flying down pat ... then take the leap. I know you’ll love that awesome feeling of soaring. Imagine what you can achieve. The view is amazing from up here. Jacq x

09.01.2022 Should you be claiming family tax benefits?? This is a benefit that is paid to parents whose income is under the required threshold. I have recently spoken to quite a few clients who did not realise that they were eligible to claim either family tax benefits (a or b) or single parenting pension. ... One client found out that they were missing out on $14,000+ a year!! If you’re unsure, see the link below and check out the income tests and other information on the government website. Especially if your income or circumstances have recently changed, you want to make sure you are optimising your position and claiming your maximum entitlements. Jacq x Ps. 09.01.2022 DEAR DIARY ... I adore this young lady. I love that she has found her passion in dance and that the hours she spends training is never a chore. ... Some people spend their whole life trying to find their thing. Lucky her. I love that she is at a school where she feels she gets to be her crazy self, and not bottle the real her up inside. In some ways, she is nothing like me. And in other ways, she is a clone. She is her own unique recipe - that’s for sure! I hope that she never loses her love of life. I hope she never loses her confidence and self belief. I envy this about her. For each of my kids, I’m a different me. Because they are all different, so I too must adapt to truly connect with them. No one size fits all approach. Im currently finding parenting more work than fun at the moment. Maybe because I’ve got 2 kids in adolescence. Maybe because of work pressures. But days like this, when I see my children shine so bright, it sparks something in me. Something that says ... keep on going. Something that squashes the doubts I may have for my life decisions. Life’s not always easy. Sometimes we have to make sacrifices. Sometimes we are not always clear on our path. Whatever your purpose or goal, be sure to check in with your Why?. Your thing that sparks life and energy within. One of the greatest gifts we have is CHOICE. Don’t be a spectator to your life. Be the director. Be the main star 2021 - we got this Jacq x
09.01.2022 Travelling through countries like Vietnam, you will see children with minimal possessions, no TVs, no smart phones, no internet, and dressed in rags. Yet strangely, these children are filled with so much joy and happiness. They have nothing, yet they seem to have everything we want - happiness. ... We often want the bigger house, more holidays, more money, better body, better car, and fancy clothes. And when we get what we want - we want more. If we can all stop and focus on what we have and not what we don’t have, I can almost guarantee that your general happiness will increase ten fold. I personally wish my weight was down. My house was cleaner. That I had more time in the day. So today I will instead focus on being grateful for having good health, having a house, and being alive and capable to have so much to do each day. What will you be grateful for today, and every day? Have an amazing Friday. Have a brilliant weekend. Much love to all Jacq x
08.01.2022 Well happy 35th birthday to me. With the years rocketing away, a birthday is an ultimate time to stop and reflect. Reflect on achievements. Reflect on failures. Reflect on my values. And show gratitude for the life I have. Since my last milestone, my dirty thirty, I have ... - Learnt about loss and grief ... - Adjusted to a world without mum (still working on that one) - Learnt more about people - different personality types, values, strengths and weaknesses - Gained a greater understanding for mental health - Genuinly learned the importance of health and fitness (appreciated that we are not invincible and 100+ hour work weeks is not sustainable) - Travelled the world - Purchased our dream home - Built multi dollar businesses (with the help of others of course) - Became a vegan in my effort to help the environment, animals and my health - Experienced the COVID life - and realised how important social interaction and the outdoors are for mental health Of all the things, it has been time with my family and friends that have been the highlight. That and furthering my knowledge, expertise, and resources to enable me to help others and create positive impact on the world. Life hasn’t been perfect. I haven’t been perfect. But I’ve always given it my all. Im so grateful for my family and friends. I’ve been very fortunate in life. Looking forward to the next 5 years to age 40( and beyond of course). Jacq x
07.01.2022 With Jobkeeper 2.0 starting next month, we thought it would be best to update you on the upcoming changes. Please note that if you already receive Jobkeeper you will need to demonstrate eligibility under these new rules. If you’ve not received Jobkeeper before but think, under these new rules, you may now be eligible, please get in touch and we can check that out for you.
07.01.2022 ATO records ‘biggest 1 July ever’ with 640% spike The ATO has now seen its biggest 1 July ever, with over 740,000 online lodgements on the day, up from just 100,000 lodgements on 1 July 2019. The spike in lodgements, which included income tax returns, early release of super and JobKeeper applications, likely contributed to the ATO’s online systems crashing on the first day of the new financial year.... The first two weeks of tax time has now seen 1.7 million individual tax returns lodged, a 12 per cent increase on the same period last year. The average refund amount this year stands at $2,365. More than $1 billion will have hit 457,000 taxpayers’ bank accounts, said ATO assistant commissioner Karen Foat. Most returns that are lodged electronically are processed within two weeks, so refunds for the first returns lodged will continue to be issued into the first half of next week. 07.01.2022 My ideal day is spent working on systems, processes, and developing leaders. Im a firm believer of dedicating time to working smarter rather than harder, and whilst it might not be the easiest path, it’s certainly worth the effort long term. Tip: consider how you can build a system to help you achieve your goals. ... This could be: - using different baskets to encourage family to automatically separate colours from whites - taking time to train someone properly, rather than assume they’ll learn on the job - using rules and other tools on your emails to help decrease email clutter Would love to hear your ideas and tips to work smarter rather than harder.
06.01.2022 Big thanks to SS Scapes for these gorgeous flowers. We love them And big shout out to our practice manager Marie who always goes above and beyond to help our clients. We love you
06.01.2022 When your client brings in donuts Thanks Luke for the awesome catchup! We started our businesses together (at the same time) and it’s been an absolute pleasure to work with you over the years, and see how much you and your family have achieved. There have been tears and hard times, but when you’ve got a mate who’s got your back ... it’s like you can do anything. ... You are an absolute legend!! Keep up the good work!

AND .... our team and clients can do it from the comfort of their home (or whilst on holiday). 04.01.2022 So, if at first you don't succeed.... Despite our best intentions, we've not been able to post our 'Celebrating Women' stories daily as hoped. To do justice to the women who participated (and their stories) we need to give thought and time to the editing and collating of the content so instead of daily, we’ll be posting weekly. We look forward to sharing the next episode with you shortly. Have a great weekend.

02.01.2022 I feel like I’ve just been given permission to work excessively Not really! But what I do love about Phillip’s advice that he gave today at Logan Chamber of Commerce, is that sometimes certain areas of your life take priority over others. Sometimes it’s work. Sometimes it’s family. And Sometimes it’s yourself. ... It’s not about dividing your day in 3 and evenly distributing between them. I know for me .. during COVID, it was 85% work, 5% family and 10% me (that’s the 3 hours of sleep a night and enough time to wave to my family as a pass then in the hallway). I did what I had to do to help our clients during a tough time. But when I burnt out - it had to shift back to me! Now, I’d say 40% work, 20% family, 40% me (now getting my 8 hrs and fitness/health time in. Ps 4-5 hours on family - I actually feel that is heaps? I think my kids would be sick of me if I hung round too much 8-9 hours at work ... it probably requires 12-14 hours. Still not enough hours in the day. But I’m working on that. And working on making me a priority once again. How do you prioritise your time? Are you achieving your desired allocation? Are the 3 areas of your life working in harmony. One of my retired mates is 2% work, 10% family, 88% golf ... I mean me time. Maybe that will be my 2021 Have a great weekend. Jacq x
01.01.2022 Here is our very own Income Tax Return (ITR) Manager. Magic Mike . This year we have made the big move to 100% online tax returns, and our clients have been so amazing with the transition! We have already received over 40+ requests in the first week alone! Mike’s job is to review the tax return requests as they come through. Make sure we have all the necessary info to help our clients maximise their tax deductions. ... Once Mike has worked his magic, he passes the ball to me and I put on my bean counter visor (you know the one!) and grab my calculator ready to do my tax accountant thing!! We would show you the live footage of this all happening, but it would be so actioned pack that it would probably blow your mind!! Whilst we might not be sitting down in the same room, it’s still the same personalised experience where we work through your individual circumstances and make sure we leave no stone unturned. If you want to lodge your tax request OR find out more info, visit our website. Mike and Kayla are on standby ready to answer your questions using our live chat functionality on our website. Or you could just phone on (07) 3806 4484. Look forward to chatting to everyone soon (or maybe even Zoom). Here is the link: Hannans360.tax Jacqueline Proud Bean Counter
