21.01.2022 MEET MORTY The Morty headframe and shaft was named after John Morty, an early director of South Kalgurli Gold Mines Ltd. Originally erected in the late 1890s as an inwards inclining four poster structure, the headframe was modified over the years until the present A-frame form was achieved by about 1950. It was relocated to the current position in 1993. Cages such as seen in the headframes skyshaft were used to carry trucks of ore (in mines which were not equipped with ore sk...ips), equipment and materials. Although the lack of side protection made it hazardous, they were also used for man carrying. Rails fitted to the footplate to match those on the surface and underground, allowed roll-on roll-off handling of equipment trolleys and ore trucks.

It is left hand drive, powered by a 425hp Caterpillar diesel engine with turbo charger and coupled with a six speed gearbox. The brake system is air over hydraulic. Soon after the fleet was retired from Pearce Airbase outside of Perth in 1999, she moved to the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter where he...r exciting career as an emergency response vehicle began. With parts becoming difficult to replace, 2009 saw her finally move into retirement at Hannans North Tourist Mine, where she remains a favourite exhibit with old and young alike. 06.01.2022 Want to see 1,000,000 tonnes of dirt moved in 25 seconds? Today our team conducted an unusually large blast in a new area of the Fimiston Open Pit called Oroya ...Brown Hill (OBH). This event was part of our remediation plans for the East Wall, extending KCGM’s life of mine and creating long-term employment, procurement and investment opportunities for Kalgoorlie-Boulder. The blast was deployed by Student Leaders Damian and Joshua from East Kalgoorlie Primary School. KCGM has been a proud partner of East Kalgoorlie Primary School, one of our closest neighbours, for over a decade. As OBH is a new mining area and still quite close to the surface, you may have noticed a bit of extra dust towards the top end of town this afternoon. 02.01.2022 Tomorrow (Thursday) at 1pm, we will be moving close to 1 million tonnes of dirt in a new area of the Fimiston Open Pit called Oroya Brown Hill. Easily visible f...rom Super Pit Lookout, this is a great opportunity to see a blast in action during the school holidays. Better still, the blast will be initiated by local students from East Kalgoorlie Primary School. To help you appreciate the scale of this event, our team has undertaken a significant amount of planning and preparation including: Drilling over 1,780 holes to a depth of 11 metres over nine days, each 165mm in diameter the equivalent of four golf balls Loading over 200 tonnes of explosives into the holes across four days Adhering to strict safety procedures, including checking each hole to ensure it has been dug to the correct depth, and that the precise amount explosives has been loaded Continually monitoring wind conditions to minimise potential impacts This unusually large blast is part of the East Wall cutback, extending KCGM’s life of mine and creating local employment, procurement and community investment opportunities. Our team will be up at the Lookout from 1pm Thursday to answer any questions you may have about the Blast or KCGM’s operations generally. To ensure we can get the blast off safely there may be some delays and possible postponement, though we will keep those at the Lookout updated throughout the afternoon.
