24.01.2022 It's been a year of ups and downs, ins and outs, and open and close (the borders). In any case, we're glad to have worked closely with some wonderful clients, colleagues and frankly, just really great people. Thanks for making our year that much more enjoyable. We'll be taking a break from 23 December 2020 to 4 January 2021 (inclusive) to recharge, but if you have any urgent issues, please email: [email protected]. From all of us at Hannan Tew, Happy Holidays and see you in 2021!

24.01.2022 On 23 November 2020 the Australian government has announced new concessions to assist TSS / 457 visa holders who may have otherwise lost permanent residence eligibility due to being stood down or subject to reduced hours or salaries during the COVID-19 pandemic. 23.01.2022 On 6 October 2020, the Australian Government is expected to announce its 2020/21 #budget2020, which amongst other things, will include the planning levels for the migration programme year. Along with a greater push for regional migration, we anticipate that #innovation will feature heavily under the skilled stream of the #migrationprogramme year as part of a reset to help economic recovery post-pandemic. 22.01.2022 We're very excited to welcome David Huynh as a Senior Associate to the Hannan Tew team! He's an experienced immigration lawyer, having spent close to a decade advising corporate clients across a variety of sectors, including telecommunications and information technology, engineering, resources, entertainment, financial services, retail, hospitality and professional services. As a fluent #Cantonese speaker, he will also be assisting our Hong Kong based clients (particularly wi...th the #GTIvisa). Perhaps most importantly however, he's a mean oz tag player so we are looking forward to releasing him during corporate competitions (post COVID-19 of course). 21.01.2022 We're very pleased to announce that #hannantew can now obtain work authorisation for foreign workers to #singapore. Singapore is an international hub for #expatriates and a key market for some of our biggest clients. Unsurprisingly, the country's efficient #immigration program has been a key driver of its economic success. See how we can help: https://lnkd.in/dGWG2uW

17.01.2022 Some positive news for #internationalstudents who have been caught out overseas due to #COVID19 - recent legislative amendments mean you might still be able to apply for a #graduatevisa from offshore. This multiple entry visa with unrestricted work rights is a great stepping stone to build experience towards other Australian visas (for example the #TSSvisa or general skilled migration). 16.01.2022 "While there is no official data on the number of global talent visas issued under the scheme, which started as a pilot program in July 2018, SBS News understands more than 4,000 applications were approved last financial year." Our Melbourne based partner Jordan Tew spoke to SBS News and is upbeat about the program: "This is an interest that is coming from a broad spectrum of people across those targeted sectors and we're actually seeing individuals both in Australia already ...here on [Subclass 124 / 858] visas, as well as from outside." Some of our applicants have obtained permanent residence within 2 months of initially getting in touch with us. Feel free to contact us at [email protected] for further information. 15.01.2022 Some important updates for #Australianimmigration: (1) a new priority Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (#PMSOL) which will provide priority processing and travel exemptions for certain #TSSvisa applications in the #healthcare, #construction and #IT sectors and (2) a new requirement to advertise on the Government’s #Jobactive website in addition to existing Labour Market Testing requirements for TSS visas (as well as the #Subclass494 Employer Sponsored Regional visa). 12.01.2022 In the midst of a 2020 that quite frankly, we'd often times rather forget, we're very proud to see our Melbourne based Partner Jordan Tew be recognised as a finalist in the Lawyers Weekly #30under30 Awards. If you want to see Jordan in black tie, social distancing in his living room on the 29th of May, register for the live broadcast here: https://lnkd.in/gDuDYcH #lawyersweekly #awards #immigrationlawyer #immigrationlaw #immigration

11.01.2022 In response to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak, government’s around the world have clamped down on immigration programs in order to stem the transmission of the virus. We appreciate how difficult it can be to deal with immigration issues in the midst of trying to get back to loved ones, so we've created a dedicated page to keep you up to date with the immigration situation in Australia. Given the fluid nature of this unprecedented situation, we strongly recommend you contact your Hannan Tew adviser prior to making any travel plans. 11.01.2022 In the words of the sagely Seekers, the world is a a’Turnin’. Long distance communication is simpler, cheaper and more accessible than ever before. The home telephone is a’Dyin’ and video conferencing is so vanilla. Sci-Fi channel style communication through Virtual Reality is just over the horizon. So, what are the visa requirements for travellers wishing to work remotely in Australia? Students will be eligible for a 5 year graduate visa from the conclusion of their studies, with a pathway to permanent residency at the end of that period Future Hong Kong applicants for temporary skilled visas will be provided with a 5 year visa, based on meeting the requirements of the relevant skilled occupation lists and Labour Market Testing requirements Read more about the update here: https://www.hannantew.com.au/australian-government-announc/ Contact us on [email protected] if you want to discuss your personal circumstances in more detail. #hannantew #australianimmigration #hongkong #studentvisas

08.01.2022 Whilst citizens, permanent residents and many New Zealanders have access to unconditional work rights and government payments (including the new #JobKeeper and #JobSeeker payments), temporary visa holders (including #TSS, #457, #Student and #WorkingHoliday makers do not. This has placed both these visa holders and their employers in a difficult situation. On 4 April 2020 The Hon Alan Tudge MP, Acting Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs, announced some updates for temporary visa holders. 08.01.2022 Due to the impacts of #COVID, the #AustralianRedCross confirmed that they are receiving funding from the #AustralianGovernment for the next six months to deliver emergency relief and casework support to #temporaryvisaholders. Broadly speaking, you may be eligible if: (1) you are in Australia on a temporary visa AND (2) you are in urgent financial hardship AND (3) you cannot access Centrelink, Medicare or similar services AND (4) you have no income, savings or other financial support (including from family overseas). 07.01.2022 The government's joint media release incentivising working holiday makers involvement in bush fire relief means that: (1) working holiday makers can work for the same employer for 12 months (instead of 6) if they are assisting with recovery (2) specified work will be extended to construction work in a declared disaster area and (3) paid work in declared disaster areas will count towards "specified work" required to obtain further working holiday visas. This is a great exam...ple of Australia's immigration system being used flexibly to maximise utility for both Australians and visitors. #australianimmigration #workingholiday #417visa #462visa Read the full release here: https://minister.homeaffairs.gov.au//backpackers-help-bush

04.01.2022 The #EmployerNominationScheme (#ENS) program consists of employer sponsored visas for skilled foreign workers in high demand occupations. The #Subclass186 visa is a permanent resident visa and eligibility depends on a number of factors including the occupation, age, and salary of the candidate. This post sets out the English requirements for this visa. https://www.hannantew.com.au/what-are-the-english-requirem/

02.01.2022 The tale of New Zealanders in #Australia is a long and convoluted one. Under various arrangements since the 1920s, there has been a free flow of people between Australia and New Zealand. The #COVID-19 pandemic has put a halt to that, and for New Zealanders in Australia, it may be worth finally considering the jump to #permanentresidence or #Australiancitizenship (especially in the context of JobSeeker or other government payments). We've prepared a useful (and apparently brief) guide which may assist New Zealanders determine their options. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g7paCJg

01.01.2022 Although Australia’s strict border restrictions due to #COVID19 continue to be in force, the ABF Commissioner may grant a temporary visa holder an exemption for a limited number of reasons including, among other things, having "critical skills" or working in a "critical sector" in Australia. The ABF Commissioner has now expanded the examples of critical skills and critical services, recognising that the obvious health risk with COVID-19 should be balanced with the economi...c impact. This is particularly beneficial for #TSS / #482visa holders who are stuck overseas. Read here for further information information: https://lnkd.in/gUCvcXg Bear in mind that practical ramifications for temporary visa holders travelling to Australia include: (1) limited international flights (2) quarantine requirements on arrival and (3) State border restrictions which must also be complied with.
