25.01.2022 A highlight of 2020 has been the launch of @wilder_trails (www.wildertrails.com.au). We now have over 720 members on our Facebook group and check out our growing collection of trails!

23.01.2022 It was awesome to be out supporting runners for @findyourfeet at the Triple Top Mountain Run hosted by Ultrain. Such a brilliant 19km event and great to see a record-breaking field attend. Congrats everyone!

23.01.2022 ** What helps you discover all the angles of yourself? ** I love uncovering my own nooks and crannies, and at nearly 18 weeks pregnant I cannot always use physical activity to do so. This is also true for times of setback, injury or when we simply need some down-time. Picking up my art again is providing this avenue for me. I especially love the exploration of human expression & lived lives through my art. I am now enrolled in adult education classes on a Wednesday afternoon.... What do you desire to learn? . . . 20.01.2022 It was an honest, candid discussion with my great friend, British elite athlete and podcaster Hector Haines on his podcast The Run In. I hope that it can assist others to grow, play & perform wilder. https://podcasts.apple.com//episode-37-with-/id1467201731 . . .... 19.01.2022 ** The importance of mental 'toughness' for ultra-marathon running ** An interesting study on the importance of mental resilience in ultra-marathon running. I like to think of this as the ability to turn on 'warrior mode' when the going gets tougher, and to block out the negative doubts. This was the take-home message I got from reading this article: "(We)... suggest a threshold of mental toughness that performers require to be of the standard needed to be able to prepare for... and compete in elite ultra-marathon events; once this mental toughness threshold is met, other factors are likely to be more influential in determining elite level ultra-marathon performance." I believe these other factors are things like our ability to fuel ourselves; base & specific fitness; running economy; appropriate choices of gear; emotional & mental skills & adaptability; and body care. Where could you focus your attention to increase your ability to perform wilder? https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article

13.01.2022 It could be fun to get behind this initiative from Bush Heritage Australia. They do some wonderful things for our country. All you have to do is run every day between 16 November & 16 December. Registration is free. Just make sure you get enough rest and recuperation if you do embark on this challenge.

12.01.2022 ** When should your longest run be scheduled before your next race? ** Q: Hi Hanny, I am following your 6 Foot Track training program. I am really enjoying it but I am a bit concerned that the longest run is 5 weeks out from race day? Many of my friends say it should be 3 weeks prior to race day? Just wondering your thoughts? A: There are many reasons why I don't recommend attempting your longest training run only 3 weeks out from a race. Firstly, this run carries a high risk... due to the length and number of steps you will be taking. This makes it the most fatiguing and so will put a huge recovery load on your body. Instead, opting to do this run 5 weeks out gives you plenty of time to recover, then return to quality training and sharpen yourself most effectively for the race. Furthermore, attempting your longest training run only 3 weeks from your event doesn't give you any time to practice anything that pops up during it that you might want to 'correct'. Instead, I opt for the longest run with 5 weeks to go, then a shorter 'longer run' 3 weeks out which still gives you a chance to practice changes to your strategies, such as tweaking your nutrition, gear, pacing etc. Don't be too swayed by others opinions. Listen to your gut instinct. It doesn't lie! See more

12.01.2022 Younger, older, beginner or experienced... as this beautiful email explains, 'we all need reminders to remain present and content with where we are at on our individual journeys'. Thank you to her wise words. If you haven't read my book, it is still available at: https://findyourfeet.com.au//finding-my-feet-hanny-allston Hi Hanny, I am a 21 yr old runner from Australia and I have just finished reading your book. Thank you for sharing your life experiences and your journey t...hrough them. I can draw many parallels to my own life and it is encouraging to know that others have been through similar things and made it out the other side or continue to thrive whatever that may look like. We need people to follow in this sport. I don’t really know where I am going with it yet but I know that I love putting one foot in font of the other, especially in the bush. Your book was a good reminder to keep checking that I am the one deciding why I do it. I’ve had a fair bit of success in trail racing but can find it difficult to be present and content with where I am at. There are so many amazing women doing incredible things in this sport but not many younger runners. It’s easy to forget that these women are often close to 10 years older than me and that my body is not ready to go that far yet even if inside I can’t wait. So thank you for sharing the ups and downs you went through in getting to where you are and where you have been. It’s not uncommon to hear people say that it won’t be a straight line journey but to experience that wobbly line is another thing. . . . #trailrunning #findyourfeet @findyourfeet #playwilder #memoir

06.01.2022 Absolutely loved guiding our FIND YOUR FEET Tour to Flinders Island. Our 11 adventurous guests summited mountain peaks, spied on the wombats, swam in the bays, whooped as the plane took off and dined on local cuisine. 02.01.2022 Last week I was blessed to spend 6 days exploring North-West Tasmania with @Graham Hammond. I initially had reservations about such a long trip because 'I know Tasmania so well already'. Tut tut Hanny!! We set a goal to do something new every day. What an extraordinary experience and I feel blessed to be able to keep playing wilder, exploring my back yard. . . .
