He has been editor of Hannoveraner Jarbuch Hengste since 1999 and is a member of the Interstallion working group of the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses. In 2002 Dr. Christmann became managing director for the Verband’s breeding abroad. Dr. Christmann is married, and he and his wife have three adult daughters, two of whom are riders. In his spare time he breeds his own horses and currently has three Hanoverians at home." The webinar will be held Friday February 5, 2021 at 6:30 pm Queensland time. 19.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY: After purchasing the then 2.5 yo unbroken Contenda from his German breeder , Heinrich Tamm , we sent him to young horse trainer Henrich Gabel ...in Frankfurt. Henrich gave Contenda a great start to his ridden career placing all the foundation blocks required for his future under saddle according to the German way of training a young horse. On a visit to see Contenda working under saddle, I distinctively remember Henrich advising me that I had selected " a good one with very good temperament and trainability". Six months later we exported Contenda from Germany to Australia. Flying Contenda to Australia involved a 6 week quarantine period - 4 weeks in the UK and then another 2 weeks on arrival in Australia .Contenda then went into the care of David and Amanda Shoobridge of Revelwood Stud whilst I was still living overseas. David was very excited about the new arrival from Germany and was keen to have a ride on him. Within only a few weeks of Contenda arriving at Revelwood, an excited David entered the then 3yo Contenda into the Young Dressage Horse Class at Clarendon - this is where the photo shown today was taken. This was Contenda's first ever show and was also his first ever win under saddle with a score of 78% from the judges. Contenda went on to have many dressage "wins" in his career both in straight dressage as well as in eventing dressage. As all eventers know, scoring well in dressage is more important that ever if you want to be standing on the winners podium at the end of the event. As a sire, Contenda has gone on to produce many outstanding dressage horses that have gone on to win in Young Dressage Horse classes, National Interschool Dressage Championships, the dressage phases in Eventing from 80cm all the way up to 4* level and of course straight dressage competitions from local Novice level right up to Small Tour National Championships. 16.01.2022 The Remi Stud Young Rider Scholarship is an annual scholarship awarded to a very deserving Young Rider who has the talent and dedication in either dressage, sho...wing, or eventing, but needs financial assistance to purchase a horse of their dreams. This year the successful applicant is Elise Payne (17) Ourimbah NSW coached by Melanie Schmerglatt. Elise is definitely a deserving winner having had a Passion for horses since the age of 4. The young horse awarded to Elise is a 9 month old weanling filly Remi Laurentia S (aka Tia) by Lauries As out of Remi Veuve Clicquot. Cheryl OBrien from Remi Stud has put together a great team of supporters to help make this dream come true for one lucky young rider. This scholarship is an amazing opportunity for a young rider to have entry into the equestrian industry with support from a variety of supporters. 14.01.2022 Memory of Melanie Schmorl The passing of Melanie Schmorl on the 3rd November 2020 marks an end of an era. May she be at peace with her late husband Holger, who died in January of 2016. Together they leave a legacy of being known in the industry for producing the highest quality of horses using some of the best German bloodlines. The stud’s breeding program was based on imported German Warmblood dressage and jumping bloodlines with the infusion of suitable thoroughbred lines..., following the principle of careful selection and thinking in generations. Holger and Melanie took a giant leap of faith by migrating from Germany to Australia at aged 40 with their two young children Victoria and Fritz. The move was initiated due to Melanie’s health issues whereby a warmer climate was recommended. Several trips prior to the journey and the 600 acre Kinnordy Stud on the Darling Downes was the chosen property. They arrived on the 2nd of January 1983 with a 40-foot container of furniture, a new Mercedes Benz and seven horses (two breeding stallions, two performance horses and three broodmares) that had to endure 3 months quarantine in England followed by another 3 months in Sydney. From there, Kinnordy grew at times to over 120 horses. Kinnordy Stud on the Darling Downes was a beautiful sight with many improvements made under their direction including the building of the big indoor arena aptly named Holger’s Shed, the countless horse stables and horse friendly yards. Over the years they employed some of the most talented horse riders mostly from Germany who stayed with them. All were welcomed as part of the family. Melanie was known for her wonderful entertaining skills, and their door always open. Stallions such as Daktylus (Diskus Absatz), Winterkoenig (Woermann -Pik Koening), Graf Landau (Genever-Wendekreis), River Dance (Rubinstein-Atossa), Gymnastik Star (Glueckspilz-Greasy) Silky Baby (What A Pleasure Dark Star), Danzante (De Nire- Wicke) and Grand Ouverte (Graf Landau-Walpurgis) left their mark and legacy by producing successful horses for all Olympic disciplines. Often people will associate the horse breeding of the Kinnordy name with Holger, but Melanie was the backbone of every part of the business and together they were a dynamic force. Memory written by their daughter, Victoria. Melanie was laid to rest on Friday, November 13th in Toowoomba. See more

09.01.2022 The breeding associations for Holstein, Trakehner, Hannoveraner, Oldenburger and Westfalen will work together to identify genetic causes of PSSM2. PSSM2, a complex disease syndrome affecting muscle function in adult horses, has been on the radar of breeders for a while. Using genomic information the project will help identify underlying genetic patterns. In the future, a validated genetic test could become available through this initiative. Very happy to see progressive hor...se breeding associations embracing scientific approaches to improve the modern sportshorse and prioritising health in the process.
