The compass fogged and the field-book damp Stinking clothes and water-logged boots The Premier doesn’t give two hoots For the comfort of the silly coots Who survey his blasted swamp? So home we went, full of our sorrow, Trudging along, weary and grim, Martyrs for the sake of him Who reaps the sugar harvest in But it’s never as bad tomorrow.
