12.01.2022 ARE YOU VOTING IN THIS YEAR'S LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS? The WA Electoral Commission has recommended last-minute voters to return ballot papers to their local ...council offices. Acting electoral commissioner Chris Avent said postal votes are no longer guaranteed to arrive in time.for the Saturday deadline. "With local government elections, whatever ballot papers are in the hand of the returning officer at of 6 o'clock when voting closes Saturday, is what is counted," he said. "It's important to read the 150 word profile which is attached to the postal ballot paper and have a good read of what the policy and thoughts are [of each candidate]." In the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, 31 per cent of votes have been returned so far. While in the Shire of Esperance, 35 per cent have been returned in the town ward and 46 per cent in the rural ward.
