24.01.2022 I put a whole lot of new happy rocks up on my Etsy shop today. Below are a few pics. If you want to check out all of them just head over to Etsy.com and search for Happiness Bank shop.
23.01.2022 I painted a Mary Poppins happy rock as a gift for a special lady who brightened my mum’s days during lock down at the residential aged care home where she lives. Natalie’s favourite dress up outfit was Mary Poppins and it was so fitting. She blew into everyone’s life at John Wesley Gardens (JWG) bringing love, laughter and happiness, even if it was just for a few moments every day. Unfortunately JWG can’t afford to keep her on. Mum is hoping the happy rock will remind her to keep spreading her special magic.
23.01.2022 At the start of this year I wrote down my intentions for 2020 with a whole lot of other stuff. It’s a bit of a ritual I have going on when a new year rolls around. I remember going into a second hand book shop where I was guided to a book that seemed to jump out at me. I started to read it and journal about it, but then the year got underway, I went back to work and it was put to the back of the book shelf. 8 months later, on a bit of a get-away I have picked it up where I left off and am reminded of how powerful it is to read, relax, recharge and recentre myself. 2020 may have come charging in like a bull turning everything inside out and upside down, but sometimes a good shake up is needed for recalibration!
21.01.2022 I have a funny story to share. One that I still can’t stop giggling about. Paul and I went out to lunch today at our favourite Italian restaurant called Tocco in Teneriffe. There are always specials on the menu and today was no different. When the waiter started to tell us about the fish special I lost interest as I don’t particularly like fish. Paul however decided he would order the fish and when asked he said he would have the fish wrapped up in pastry. As he said this my ...ears pricked up as I love pastry and I chided myself for not paying more attention. When his fish arrived it looked amazing and we both marvelled at the great presentation. It was filo pastry with the fish wrapped in it looking like a giant Bonbon. Paul decide to attack it by cutting a little hole in the middle and accessing the fish and vegetables that way. He was about 5 minutes into eating it when the owner of the restaurant came over apologising profusely. He said he was so sorry that he hadn’t explained how to eat it properly. To our utter dismay he then grabbed hold of the two ends of the pasty and untwisted them opening it up to reveal the meal inside. As he walked away Paul and I looked at each other in utter horror wondering what on earth had just happened. Why would the owner put his hands all over Paul’s meal! I then touched the pastry and realised Paul had heard wrong. It was fish wrapped up in PAPER. Thank goodness Paul had only eaten one mouthful of paper. Gotta love getting old. It amused us no end for the rest of the day. There is nothing like a good laugh to fill up your happiness account. See more
20.01.2022 I took part in a wonderful health and wellbeing project managed by My Health for Life. Below is one of the videos I participated in. It's got some great information on mastering your mindset
19.01.2022 So thankful to spend some time away at a special place called Spicers Hiddenvale. Happiness accounts topped up to overflowing so it was only fitting to leave some happiness behind.
17.01.2022 One of the many ways to invite happiness into your life is to give it away first. It doesn’t take much time to orchestrate, just a bit of conscious thought and action. It can be a positive interaction with a stranger, an expression of thanks to a friend or a kind deed (kindness is my favourite). Today I left a couple of kindness rocks at my local cafe just to say thanks for a delicious breakfast and awesome customer service. I also left a few around the neighbourhood. Doing things like this always makes me happy and when I am happy this has a ripple effect on everyone else around me. Make sure you do something today that makes you feel happy. Even if it’s just for a moment it will still make a positive difference.
15.01.2022 This morning I read a sad and disturbing news article about a lady in Cambodia. Her husband had been arrested for posting information and news articles about COVID-19. She had lost everything due to this. Each Friday she stands outside the embassies and court house with a small group of women, all in similar circumstances, holding signs and chanting for their husbands release. It hurts my heart and saddens me so much. And as I walked this morning along the river, enjoying my ...freedom, my expression of speech, my safety and the glorious sunrise I gave thanks over and over again. I can’t directly help those women in Cambodia, but I can do my upmost to take advantage of what I have been given. For when I am thankful, for when I am well and for when I am happy I am in the best position to help others in what ever way I can. We can all spread small ripples of kindness and happiness in our communities and those ripples reach far and wide. One day they could even reach Cambodia! See more
09.01.2022 Everyone travels in their own lane at different speeds, different volumes and different times. There is no best way, just your own unique way. This is my way of saying I care and that black lives matter. I hope if someone takes one of these rocks it will be a reminder to them to care, to be kind, to love and to learn about our First Nations People. I have kept one of those rocks as a reminder to me. There is so much that I need to learn. I haven’t even scratched the surface but at least the conversations have begun.
09.01.2022 The gift of a new day! What will you do with it? Groan and wish it didn’t arrive, mindlessly grind your way through it or approach it with curiosity and stay open to all the possibilities it contains. The latter takes conscious effort but the rewards are so worth it. Enjoy your Thursday everyone and look out for those moments of joy, no matter how fleeting they are. The pic below was my moment of joy this morning.
07.01.2022 I woke up this morning feeling grumpy. After wallowing around in my grumpiness for a while I dragged my myself and my mood out of bed and went for a walk. It took so much energy to do this but I knew I would feel better afterwards. During my walk I reflected on how hard happiness is. I decided to write a blog about it. If you want the inside gos just click on the link below.
07.01.2022 I love this pic because it has all the key ingredients to my happiness. 1. Connection: spending time with the people I love. 2. Up and out: getting off my bum, moving my body and playing in nature 3. Lighten up: having a dam good laugh and not taking everything so seriously 4. Curiosity: having the courage to go exploring and doing something I wouldn’t normally do... 5. Giving thanks: pausing and taking the time to consider how lucky I was to have the opportunity to spend this time with my family in the most amazing setting. Moments of joy like this don’t come around very often. Happiness is fleeting so make sure you capture every single moment of joy, deposit it into your happiness bank and know that you can always come back to that memory any time you want to. See more
06.01.2022 I have a story to share, I’ll try and keep it short but you may need to get comfortable. The happy rocks you see below have been sent to a elderly man named Denver who lives in residential aged care. Denver and his wife June lived in the house next door to me in Engadine, Sydney where I grew up. When I got married and left home I lost contact with Denver and June but my parents did keep me up to date with their news. In 2014, the year I dedicated to hand writing a happy lette...r every day, I sent one to Denver. I hadn’t been in contact with him for over 20 years. Unfortunately his wife June had passed away and he lived alone in the same house that I knew so fondly. Denver loved his letter so much that I kept writing to him. Last year he had a fall in his home and he couldn’t get up. He spent two days on the floor freezing cold and in pain until someone found him. After that he was forced to sell his home and move into residential aged care. A few weeks ago I popped a tiny happy rock into his letter just to show him what I love doing. He was so thrilled with it that he asked me if I could paint some more. He wanted to give them to a couple of men who lived in the home. Apparently my happy rock had caused quite a stir. So of course I said I would, isn’t that what happiness is all about; helping others and spreading joy. It never ceases to amaze me how one small act of kindness can create such beautiful ripples of happiness. This story is just a reminder to be kind as often as you can and to never underestimate its power. See more
04.01.2022 Another happiness deposit tonight. A treat for looking up and being in the moment. How amazing is this sunset!
