25.01.2022 As the uni trimester is coming to an end with my last exam for this year next Thursday (yippee!!!) it reminded me its only two weeks tomorrow until the antenatal class!!! Time is flying by! So I hope everyone is getting ready for an information filled session on infant sleep and settling to make sure those first few months go by in a blissful blur rather than in a stressful and sleep deprived state! Only 5 spots left so if you are hoping to attend on the 19th October from ...1-4pm at Albany Creek please head on over to the events page and book a spot;) Any questions please let me know! See you all there!

25.01.2022 Afternoon everyone:) I have just posted an article from the Daily Mail as it outlines the importance of sleep and it's always good to receive a gentle reminder:) I hope it encourages everyone to keep sleep a priority at home with both nap times and bedtime. I have been quiet on here for a while now, as many know I lost my husband to brain cancer in May this year. It has been a hard 6 months finding my feet and a new normal for myself and two children but we are slowly acce...pting the changes. On a happier note we are leaving next Wednesday 29th Nov for 7 weeks back to Ireland to spend some quality time with my family and friends and a much needed distraction over our first Christmas period without Stephen. I will return on Monday 22nd Jan ready to tackle a new year! I am also hoping to expand my services next year to include workshops for pregnant couples so they are armed and ready with everything they need to know to put all the right habits in place from the beginning! Please let me know if you have any friends or family expecting! I would also like to visit childcare centres to get the message across of the importance of the relationship between home and daycare when it comes to sleep and sleep habits. In addition to make sure preschoolers are also achieving the necessary amount sleep they need before starting school so they can thrive. If you happen to attend a daycare centre it would be great if you could make some enquiries to whether this is a service they would like to offer their staff and parents! In the mean time I would like to wish all my wonderful HBC families a wonderful festive Christmas and New Year. I'll be back in 2018 ready to tackle any sleep issues that may arise between now and then!! Happy Sleeping!!

22.01.2022 Only 10 days left to book your ticket to our 6-18 month old sleep and settling workshop. There are only 17 spots left and over 45 people interested so if you are planning to come be quick. If you happen to miss out on a ticket please contact me and Ill start a waiting list:) I would like to cap the number at 20 so we can have a purposeful question and answer session at the end to discuss individual situations. I would like everyone to leave knowing how to keep things on trac...k or improve whats happening sleep wise at the moment:) This will be a fun and informative session as we work through the three main factors to allow positive settling and sleep patterns. Look forward to meeting everyone:) Susie https://www.facebook.com/events/507549973019265/?ti=icl

21.01.2022 Hello everyone!! So if you are like me you will be in utter disbelief that it is already November!! Seriously, what has happened to 2019!! For me though, that means its only 5 weeks until the kids and I head back to Ireland for Christmas and New Year and my time slots are filling up quite quickly. If you have been putting off making a call or getting in contact, now might be a great time to take that next step. You might also be coming up to a transition between phases and ...have questions about food or awake times or had been hoping the multiple wake ups overnight would pass and now realising thats not the reality of the situation:) Most sleep issues can be resolved during a one hour phone consult as sleep is a biological necessity so little ones know what they have to do:) (they just need you to know too!!) or you might feel like a more in-depth look at what is happening is required or support in taking that leap of faith towards that all important self settling thing that others speak of:) A home visit then might be a better fit. Whatever your sleep concerns are, everything is fixable so dont delay that dream of better sleep for both you and bub a moment longer!! Feel free to send me a message on 0403492743 if you would like to book a phone consult or a home visit. Please also include location if you feel a home visit would be most beneficial. If you arent sure send me an outline of what is currently happening and Ill guide you to the best option:) I look forward to assisting as many as possible before the 7th Dec. I will be back 15th Jan so you have a time line to work with:) Talk soon!! Ps dont forget sleep is a little ones seatbelt for neurological safety and wellbeing:) this is a very big passion of mine!! I have scientific studies coming out my ears and I want to pass on that knowledge to as many families as I can! PPS - is anyone brave enough to admit they have Christmas decorations up yet! Ive seen two Christmas trees up so far!!!

20.01.2022 Hello again, I hope everyone is well and has survived lock down:) It was definitely a bit crazy, however it was wonderful to assist numerous families take advantage of being at home to successfully fix their sleep concerns over the phone:) My study is now complete for the trimester (thank goodness!!) and as the restrictions have lifted I am now able to recommence home visits:) So if you have been waiting for a home visit I have availability now from the 22nd June:) Please f...eel free to get in touch:) Talk soon Susie

19.01.2022 Hi everyone, Just a friendly reminder about the antenatal workshop next Saturday 9th February. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me. Ticket allocations will be open until next Friday. Thank you to those who have already booked. I am looking forward to helping as many parents to be/new parents with giving their little one the gift of sleep. It really does come down to the story parents tell that will determine if their little one sleeps well. There is so much conflicting nonsense out there, I promise to keep it simple!! It really doesn't have to be hard - it is a natural innate instinct!! Talk soon!

18.01.2022 Hi everyone, Our next antenatal/newborn sleep and settling workshop is only a week away. Places are limited to allow an easy going and relaxed environment. If you know anyone who is pregnant or who has had a little one in the last month or so please direct them to the Facebook page to book online under the events section. This workshop offers a straightforward simple biological approach to sleep and settling. Sleep is just that a simple biological innate instinct (we have to do it everyday to survive). Three simple steps is all you need to know to achieve Sleep! Looking forward to meeting everyone next Saturday 1pm at the Albany Creek Scout Den - Albany Creek:)

14.01.2022 Happy New Year! I wish wish everyone a happy and healthy 2021 with lots of sleep! Just wanted to quickly advise that I have changed my email address as I have swapped from Optus to Telstra after weeks of very limited service. My new email is [email protected] I am taking bookings again and currently up to week beginning 25th Jan for home visits. For phone consults I still have some spaces before then. ... So for all things feeding, sleeping, not so fun toddler behaviours please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Susie

14.01.2022 Hello everyone Not quite baby sleep related but I wanted to give Nic from One Little Peanut photography a big shout out:) Nic very kindly gifted my family a photo shoot to give us some amazing memories while my hubby is still able. They are absolutely gorgeous - we love them all:) ... If you are thinking about a newborn or family photo shoot please check out Nic's Facebook Page. You won't be disappointed:) https://www.facebook.com/onelittlepeanut/

14.01.2022 Not quite sleep related but couldnt pass up the opportunity to share! Anyone on the Northside of Brisbane near Stafford Heights I highly recommend this Long Day Care/kindy. Its such a unique and amazing service with a max of 15 children with a qualified kindy teacher. Most of their learning happens outdoors, where children thrive:) Give Kylie a call for a tour or any questions:) Oh a side note - I hope everyone is sleeping well!

11.01.2022 A lovely article which gives gentle reminders about what kids need to thrive:) I especially like the part about an early bedtime. This is very important even when children start school:) Our awake brain can only cope with what our sleeping brain achieves:) http://www.lovewhatmatters.com/boundaries-routines-and-ear/

11.01.2022 http://www.slate.com//teething_symptoms_in_babies_are_not_ Fantastic article - I love the line from the paediatrician when he remarks to the mother "she is sleep training you"!

11.01.2022 Do you know anyone who would benefit from the gift of sleep, a friend, relative or even as a baby shower present? I now have gift certificates that I can pop directly in the mail to either yourself or straight to the recipient:)

10.01.2022 Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas:) I have returned from an amazing trip back home to Ireland spending time with family and friends:) I have to say though it was cold and Im glad to be back to the heat! Jet lag is quite beneficial and I have managed to achieve a lot having been up since 3am! Ask me how I am though at 3pm this afternoon, I may need a nana nap! I think I have managed to reply to everyones calls and messages while I was away but apol...ogies if I have missed anyone. Please send me a message if you have yet to hear from me and I will get back in touch ASAP! Otherwise I hope everyone is on track with sleeping and setting. Please reach out if you need help:) I hope to be back in full work mode by Friday to start phone consults and home visits from next week:) Talk soon Susie

10.01.2022 Another study showing the importance of sleep during the first three years, on a child's long term well being. Keep persisting with those naps and a regular bedtime. Persistence and consistency is the key to successful quality sleep:) It might seem easier at times to 'give in' and deal with it later or when they are older but it's when they are little that's most important. Don't be put off by some crying (they won't feel abandoned - you are right there) if you know you have to make changes to current habits, it's such a short period of time and one they will never remember - their brain development is what is with them for life:) http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/3573415

10.01.2022 Hi everyone, It has just come to my attention that reviews left on my invoice app are not visible to anyone but me. I know I have had a lot of mums over the years say to me that they got in contact because of the reviews left by others. I very rarely ask or request a review, I prefer to leave it to parents to make that choice (it’s also an option in the invoice app) but I appreciate they can play an important role in the decision making process. I have taken a few screen... shots of recent ones left on the invoice app just for those scrolling through not sure whether to take the plunge or not about making any changes so they can read about the positive experience others have had. It might just mean the difference between a Mum and bub sleeping or riding that sleep deprivation train. Thank you to everyone past and present for all your ongoing support. Happy sleeping everyone:)

09.01.2022 I have created my first workshop event on the 28th July to support expectant parents be prepared and those with newborns unravel the minefield of those first few weeks. Please share far and wide! I will create more workshops over the coming months to cover all age groups. Thank you everyone for your support:) ... https://www.facebook.com/events/474541852985412/?ti=icl

09.01.2022 Sorry guys was playing around with the logo and well I’m not that tech savvy. I have ordered new business cards to reflect my new email address so please bear with me! I’ll update the logo again when they arrive:) I am also moving house this weekend just in case I don’t manage to respond straight away. Hope everyone is sleeping well:) don’t hesitate to get in touch even for any minor curve balls! ... Talk soon Susie

09.01.2022 https://youtu.be/aXflBZXAucQ Thought I would add the link in case anyone wants to watch. While not specific to infants or children, he does stress about the importance of sleep. Quite scary really especially in the crazy 21st century that we are living in. The purpose of adding this is - If we understand that getting enough sleep is this important, it may help undo some of the confusing and conflicting information parents are exposed to, which prevent them for ensuring their ...little one achieves the safe neurological sleep that is actually required. Sleep is not emotional task - if we needed emotional support to sleep we would need it our entire lives, it is a simple biological innate necessity to ensure our survival:) As my mantra goes - Keep it simple:) Happy sleeping:)

08.01.2022 Please don't suffer sleep deprivation any longer. If you are struggling to get the sleep needed to feel ready to tackle the day ahead please get in touch - It can be easily resolved:) Sleep is a biological necessity and every baby/child has the ability to sleep well. Parents are tending to over parent when it comes to sleep but that usually means sleep isn't what it should be because their innate skills aren't being used. Bad habits can be reversed and good sleep habits put... in place to ensure long term well being:) http://m.huffpost.com/uk/entry/uk_5811f4d3e4b0ccfc9561ed8a

08.01.2022 https://www.facebook.com/events/412936152910551/?ti=icl Hello everyone, I will be attending My First Gym at Salisbury on the 9th Sept to chat to those who attend about the importance of sleep and the specific routine needs for bubs 12-24 months:) Everyone is welcome to attend:) Ticket prices are included in the link below:) This is a direct payment to My First Gym on arrival. ... I have also added an antenatal event under the events tab for the 19th October if you know anyone who is currently pregnant or will have a little one up to 6 weeks at the time please share the event with them:) Thanks and happy sleeping!! Ps - I have been mentioning recently to families the name Matthew Walker who is a neuroscientist and has written a book Why we sleep. There are a few You Tube video clips and are fascinating to listen to! One is 55 mins (he only talks for 40 mins) and if you can relate to what he is saying about the impact of sleep deprivation on an adults brain you can imagine the impact on an infant or young childs brain. If you need something to listen to in the car or in the evening I highly recommend!! It will make you want to get your 8 hours sleep every night!!! His opening statement in this one video is a doozy!

07.01.2022 Don't forget to make nap times a priority - not only is it important downtime for everyone, research shows they also make kids smarter! Who doesn't want that!! For nap times to be successful remember their awake time needs to be age appropriate. It all comes down to hormones - if their sleep hormones reduce too much and adrenalin takes over due to being overtired then their brain has difficulty switching off and also staying asleep. Here's a guide of awake times:) 0-6 weeks ...- 1 hour 6 weeks - 3 months - 1 hour 15 mins 3- 4 months - 1 hour 30 mins 5-6 months - 1 hour 45 mins 6 months - 2 hours 7 months - 2 hours 30 mins 8 months - 2 hours 45 mins 9 -12 months - 3 hours These times are a guide:) also the rule of thumb is if your baby sleeps less than 1.5/2 hours then reduce their age appropriate awake time to compensate. Also don't keep the last stretch of the day from their last nap to bedtime too long as going down for the night with an increased adrenalin level will produce a 'bad' night:) The saying goes - 'SLEEP PROMOTES SLEEP'!!! http://www.parent.co/do-naps-make-kids-smarter/

07.01.2022 I hope everyone is having a lovely Saturday and coping with the heat! I was sent the attached the article from another Mum and I thought it was a good one to share:) I have been busy catching up with families after our break overseas and a few common issues that seem to keep cropping up include:... The size of teats on bottles need to be checked - dont forget they come in slow, medium and fast flow. If feeding seems to be taking a long time or the teat becomes flattened when sucking etc its time to move up a size. As a general guide they should be on medium flow by 3 months and fast flow by 5/6 months. With little ones moving from cot to a bed remember your actions tell them the story. If on night one you cave to stall tactics or start sitting or lying with them to go to sleep you are setting up a new pattern and then they make the assumption that is now what happens. Its important to set boundaries from night 1 so not to have tantrums undoing them few weeks down the track. Dont push out bedtime past their age appropriate awake time as you will send them to bed with an adrenalin load that will need to be expelled. This will cause unnecessary wake ups overnight or take a long time settling. Make bedtime linked to what has happened during the day. If they havent had a good afternoon nap bedtime needs to be earlier to compensate :) If anyone has any general questions please let me know. They may help others as well:) http://www.janetlansbury.com//4-eye-opening-things-scienc/

06.01.2022 Hello everyone, I hope you are all coping with the crazy hot weather! Due to progression of my husbands terminal illness I have made the decision to take the next 6 months off to concentrate on him and also focus on our two children. Happy Baby Consultancy is very important to me and I thoroughly enjoy helping and supporting parents with any sleep issues. Remember to keep tummies full, keep awake time age appropriate and their sleep environment dark and unstimulating. I appreciate everyone's support and I promise I will definitely be back next year when I am ready:) please keep telling people about HBC:) I hope everyone has a lovely festive period. Many thanks Susie

03.01.2022 This gorgeous little lady woke up very happy after her 2.5 hour morning nap this morning:) She is now sleeping 15 plus hours in 24 and a much happier baby. If your baby isnt waking happy from their nap it probably means they are still tired and need to sleep longer. If you are having troubles with nap time please get in touch:)

03.01.2022 Hi all, we have found technology and our Antenatal Sleep seminar on Saturday 28 July is now available to book tickets online! Head to https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/antenatal-sleep-and-settlin ....Please share with your family and friends who are pregnant or have a newborn now. Thank You! Susie and Annette

03.01.2022 Article in today's Daily Telegraph:) It discusses how sleep is vitally important and how it interconnects to physical activity. This is important from as young as 6 weeks who must be exposed to tummy time to build core muscles. A lot of parents tell me their little ones don't get much tummy time because they instantly cry so they roll them back over onto their backs thinking they just don't like it. If a baby is well rested they will manage with the physical demands much be...tter - this continues for rolling, crawling, walking and coping with the demands of being a toddler and preschooler:) sleep will also have a direct link to behaviour as well! I am told frequently too many children are starting school with a sleep deficit and that more and more are too tired to manage with the daily demands of school and many show signs of struggling academically early on. Make sure sleep is a priority in your house to give them the best chance at being the best they can be:) On a side note - A little one has reached 70 percent of their brain capacity by the age of two so that really does make sleep a HUGE factor in their long term well being. Happy sleeping everyone!!

03.01.2022 Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful festive period! After a few requests, I am starting the year with an antenatal workshop on Saturday 9th February in Albany Creek. Also please feel free to share the link on any mothers groups facebook pages. Thank you for your suppo...rt! Let's start 2019 with a resolution of great sleep, routine and happy families! The event can be found on the events section as well as the link below. https://www.facebook.com/events/359497994878724/ If you need to iron out any road bumps from the holiday season send me a message and we can organise a phone consult. 01.01.2022 Hi all, I hope everyone is doing ok as everything unfolds in this rapidly changing situation. In keeping with the current recommendations of social distancing I will be stopping home visits for the time being. Although, the fact you are at home self isolating it is also potentially a great opportunity to improve any sleep issues as you can offer persistence and consistency while at home. (The key to success!) I am still available in the afternoons for phone consultations to ...help with any guidance or assistance:) I am taking the opportunity whilst it is quiet and at home to complete several uni subjects towards my Bachelor of Child and Family Studies degree so I will be staying out of mischief! Please stay safe and well and in the mean time I am still available on the phone for any support around sleep and feeding:) Talk soon! Susie
