25.01.2022 Hopefully the neighbourhood you live in and the school your children go to are not in constant trauma like the ones in this article, but all kids (and all adults too) experience struggles processing emotions at times and many kids have experienced trauma. That's why I love teaching teachers how to use mindfulness in their classrooms. It can have such a big impact for such a simple technique.

24.01.2022 Another mindfulness article with some simple ideas for practising mindfulness. My aim is for you to find at least one mindfulness activity that you can easily fit into your life. Please let me know if these posts have helped you to understand more about mindfulness and more important, given you a way to practise. If you're brave, tell me what practise you are using and what you are doing differently since beginning mindfulness.
23.01.2022 I came across this great website. In particular, The Story of the Oyster and the Butterfly is a lovely way to talk to kids about coronavirus and help them to deal with their feelings about the changes that are happening. https://www.anagomez.org/covid-19-resources/
23.01.2022 I finally have a logo for Happy Calm Kids! Thank you Eddie Gonzalez. I love the rainbow colours. What do you think?

18.01.2022 Having worked with many teenage boys in my job as a counsellor, I have too often found that parents mistakenly believe that their teenage boys don't want or need them around as much anymore. In most cases, the opposite is true. As parents we need to find new ways of being with and inspiring them. It's not easy but it's so important to help guide them with compassion through these difficult years. The ages between 12 and 25 are the highest risk ages for developing mental illness. Having a responsive and compassionate parent can be an important protective factor.
16.01.2022 What is your gift, what dreams do you need to chase, what is stopping you?
14.01.2022 Hi everyone, Ive been quiet on this page for a while as i have been focussing on some other things in my life, but since the COVID-19 changes, I have started to feel like parents might appreciate some guidance and reminders that you are all doing great work so I have decided to post through this page in the hope it will help you. In particular, school at home and children's responses to the changes and social distancing rules seem to be common issues in my work at the moment. Please let me know by private message if you would like any particular information or articles on certain topics and ill do my best to post some helpful articles for you.
12.01.2022 I've been doing quite a lot of work with people experiencing grief and loss lately so I thought I'd share this article. I hope this info is helpful
12.01.2022 Here is an article that I wrote for the school newsletters of the schools I am currently working at. I hope that it helps you to put your parenting role during school at home into perspective. PARENTING THROUGH CHANGING TIMES A lot has been made of the changes to schools and to the lives of teachers and students due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but I have not heard much about how parents are supposed to adapt to this change. Many parents are now working from home, supervising st...Continue reading
11.01.2022 What is Mindfulness? Mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment - non judgementally, compassionately and with an attitude of non attachment. That may... sound a little complicated, but mindfulness really is the simplest way that you can look at life. Although it is simple, it takes practise. We have all formed thinking habits that are not mindful and it can be especially difficult to remain in the present moment in times of stress or uncomfortable emotions. But the practise of mindfulness will bring great rewards. It can change your life, helping you to cope more positively with any situation, learn acceptance and open yourself up fully to all that life has to offer. There is so much research now into how mindfulness improves the lives of both adults and children. It actually changes the way your brain works. The best thing is that any one can practise mindfulness, rich, poor, busy, bored, child, adult and everyone in between! If you can breathe you can be mindful. See more
10.01.2022 Another article i wrote for my school newsletters in response to increasing anxiety since it has been announced that children will be going back to school next week. I hope you find it useful. HELPING YOUR CHILD COPE DURING DIFFICULT TIMES It is understandable that anxiety has increased for parents and children alike since we have been living through these unprecedented times. With children expected back at school for one day per week next week, some children are relieved and...Continue reading
09.01.2022 Practising mindfulness as a parent has to be the most helpful thing I've ever done for my kids. I'm not always calm, I still get stressed out and cranky at times, but practising mindfulness enables me to choose how I parent my children rather than just reacting to my own emotions or to the situation. Here's a good article showing some simple ways that you can build mindfulness into your day whether you are a parent or not.
08.01.2022 These are good. Even for my pre teen.
08.01.2022 This is a good article showing the link between adverse childhood experiences (childhood trauma) and chronic illness in later life.
03.01.2022 As some of you know, I run a multicultural cooking group at Jonah's school. I do it for so many different reasons but this article mentions some of the reasons.... If you know me well you will know how much I absolutely despise ignorance and hate, especially in the form of racism. The cooking group is my contribution to spread love, acceptance and understanding in my own corner of the world. Getting together with lovely parents from all corners of the world, cultures, religions and customs to share food enriches my life beyond belief. I hope that this inspires people to go outside their comfort zone and talk to someone new, or if you are like me and you also can't stand racism, I hope it will inspire you to have conversations about why it upsets you to balance out some of the other views that I see expressed so often on social media.
