25.01.2022 My 3 year old has been interested in measurement of late. He must have had a growth spurt and can now reach things that he couldn’t, like a light switch. Every day we are instructed to measure how tall he and naturally, this has progressed to how heavy he is, now we have to measure and weigh him every day! To facilitate this interest, I decided to look up some DIY scales and came across this simple and easy scale to engage, consolidate and extend his learning with weight, siz...e and number concepts. 24.01.2022 Join the dot activities are a classic! They’ve been around for awhile and are still providing entertainment and engaging children years later. They are such a simple and easy activity, but one that provides an array of learning opportunities too. Recently I’ve noticed that my son’s pencil grip is in need of some practice and with reverse number sequencing (counting backwards) being a new party trick, this activity was a no brainer! I’m not a fan of worksheets as such, so I d...ecided to try something a little different and make our own join the dots game instead. Same, same but different! I love that this activity has many different variations and ways to play. Join by colours, by numbers, by alphabet- or simple enjoy making design and patterns from dot-to-dot! A great way to strengthen hand and finger muscles and a great pre-writing tool too. 20.01.2022 -DIY Car display- So, our tacklebox car storage that we posted not long ago has been great so far, except for one little problem Mum I can’t see my cars, the ones I love! ....It seems the 3 year-old likes to DISPLAY certain cars. On my quest to find adequate car storage, I saw a great DIY car display rack, and after the above response from my boy, I decided that I had to give it ago. ... Here you see, an inexpensive, easy and quick DIY solution using wooden shoe racks that I picked up from a dollar store and some angle brackets and mending plates from my local hardware. In a nutshell, all I did was attach two shoe rack shelves (top and bottom tier) on top of one another using my angle brackets and screws. I used the mending plates to attach a second shelf below the first to create more storage, because, well, we have so many cars and then attached and fixed it flat to the wall.. wahlaa! There are lots of instructional and how to guides out there on the web if you’re interested in making one yourself, or contact me for further information! I’d gladly share how to create this amazing shelf! Verdict. Wow, this is so awesome Mum! I love it, I can see all my special cars now! #happydaysbucketfilled #toycarstorage #diyprojects #diymumma #toyorganisation #simpleideas #carsarelife #easypeasy #happy3yearold

09.01.2022 Similar to our peg-a-number game, here we have a peg-a-NAME game! A very simple, personalised activity that encourages children to identify the letters in their name, match and spell their name using pegs. Great for pre-literacy learning, fine motor development and for increasing a child’s focus and concentration. 04.01.2022 If you’re already following us, you will know that for my 3 year old, cars are life. He has also discovered the world of basic board games and loving them, so when I stumbled across this simple DIY math game it was an instant click and save. Using some of his current favourite toys (Blaze and the monster machines), some colourful markers (@crayola are our fav’s!), a dice and large piece of paper we were able to create our very own interest-based board game. We were inspired ...by the Tv show- Blaze and the monster machines and this became the basis of many of our trick spaces with my son directing the game and adding his own little spin on it. Not only was he so very proud of the game he developed, he also partook in basic numeracy concepts- counting and number associations; as well as learnt the social aspects of turn taking, sharing, waiting, and the idea of winning and loosing too. I highly recommend this game! Its adaptable to suit varying interests and so simple.
