24.01.2022 Prepping for Christmas! It’s that time of year where there will be lots of treats and yummy things around to tempt us! For that reason it’s important to have some healthy snacks and treats on hand to snack on when the time comes...so I decided to make a batch of my yummy lemon cheesecake bliss balls for easy pickings out of the fridge. With fresh lemon juice and lots of zest as well as raw cashews and a spot of turmeric there’s a lot of nutrient goodness! All you need to do i...s throw the ingredients in a food processor, whizz it all up and then roll them into balls. What goes into the food processor: zest of 2 lemons juice of 2 lemons 250g of Cashew Nuts 75g of shredded coconut 1/4 cup of maple syrup 1 and 12 tablespoons of coconut oil (melted) 14 teaspoon of turmeric powder or freshly chopped turmeric For rolling: 1/4 to 12 a cup of desiccated coconut for rolling the balls #motivation #blissballs #yum #healthysnacks #nofilter #functionalnutrition #northernbeaches #northernbeacheslocal #lifestyle #wellness #healthandwellness #longtermhealth #naturalhealing #happygreensprout #happygreensproutlife
21.01.2022 Love this new mayo I’ve been trying, it’s delicious, made from good fats (olive oil) and crucially it has the right consistency for mayo - ie. solid when kept in the fridge! So why is looking for the right mayonnaise crucial? Because most of them are made with vegetable oils like sunflower oil, canola oil or soybean oil. And they are full of omega-6 fats which are already overflowing in the standard Australian/American Diet. When omega-6 fats are present to excess in our diet... it has detrimental affects on our bodies and so I look for other sources of fats that are supportive to good health. These include olive oil, avocado oil and coconut oil. So I was excited to find this mayo that made from olive oil. And it’s really hard to get the right consistency for a mayo if you are using ‘good fats’ in my experience. A lot of them are runny and disappointing. But this one delivers and I’d highly recommend it. I like to make my own but when I don’t have the energy or time this going to be my go to from now on...so, what is your favourite mayo? #healthymayo #mayo #mayoforthewin #raw #healthycondiments #cleaneating #lowcarb #dairyintolerance #glutenfree #healingwithfood #healthychoices #wellness #healthandwellness #longtermhealth #naturalhealing #eatrealfood #foodismedicine #australianbrands #aussiebrands #healthandwellness #vegan #balancedhormones #northernbeachessmallbusiness #northernbeaches #northernbeacheslocal #sydneynutritionist #functionalnutrition #happygreensprout #happygreensproutlife
21.01.2022 I agree - nuts are great. Especially walnuts that are classed as a sirt food - this means that they contain sirtuins, a type of signalling protein that regulate metabolism and have been shown to increase muscle mass and burn fat.
16.01.2022 Our first parkrun since the start of Covid so we decided to take the family out to Mosman parkrun down by the spit bridge. It’s super easy to park, beautiful views and the ‘a bit too early for me’ start time of 7am. Which means waking up when it’s still dark, but then you can be home before 8am and have the whole day ahead of you, or you can crawl back into bed. Or have a delicious bubble bath afterwards, which is what I did. If you don’t know about them, parkruns are amazing...: Free to enter and run completely by volunteers There are parkruns in 406 locations around the world and there are over 25 in the Sydney Metro area, and more than 50 locations across New South Wales. Checkout your closest location at www.parkrun.com.au or www.parkrun.com for global info. Register beforehand online, print off your barcode and you will get a registered time for every parkrun you do - so you can try and beat your previous record. Lots of fun for all the family, you can walk or run the event, push a stroller, run with your dog and I was even beaten by a barefoot runner today (more power to him I say). Given they had been shut down for so long it ran pretty smoothly today so if you haven’t managed to get back to parkrun since they started back up, or you're a complete newb, I’d highly recommend checking out your nearest location and pulling on your running shoes. #motivation #parkrun #parkrunau #running #greataussieoutdoors #outdoors #exercise #getoutside #fitness #healthy #workout #familyfitness #familyfitnessfun #familyfitnessgoals #familyouting #northernbeaches #healthandwellness #healthychoices #happygreensprout #happygreensproutlife

13.01.2022 Are you meat curious? Well if not, maybe you should think about it...lots of people have cut down on meat consumption and are worried about the impact of their diet on the environment. There have been a number of documentaries detailing a pro-vegan approach that purports to be good for the environment as well as claiming to improve our health. Sacred Cow proposes a new way to look at sustainable diets. The film takes a deep dive into the nutritional claims against meat, exp...lains why cattle raised well are actually good for the environment, and addresses the ethical considerations surrounding killing animals for food. The truth is, you cannot have life without death, and eliminating animals from our food system could cause more harm than good. And did you know that 2/3rds of the agricultural land around the world is not suitable for crops, but can be used for ruminant animals to graze, and when they do, they actually bring life back to the soil. Sacred Cow will be available for a free viewing for a limited time only from now through November 30 and you can sign up to get the movie here: https://www.sacredcow.info
11.01.2022 Christmas tips #3 - don’t forget to exercise! I woke up this morning and realised that in all my rushing around and getting last bits and pieces out of the way before taking a break that I’d forgotten to plan out my trail running for the last week and hadn’t been once. So I pulled out my running shoes and took a run around the dam near my house. It’s so important to keep up with exercise and it can also be a great chance to step out solo for some me time, or to step out with ...a friend or family member to catch up and check in with each other. Currently being in lockdown I stepped out solo, put on a podcast and enjoyed seeing some of nature for an hour before getting back to work with the holiday prep and last few client commitments. Here’s a few tips for keeping up the exercise through the holiday period: Look through your commitments and work out what exercise you can squeeze in and when. If you schedule it in you’re more likely to stick to it. If you can’t leave the house then plan to do yoga or a weights routine in your bedroom / garden / garage. If you are planning to meet up with friends who like running / bushwalking then see if you can combine the two and go for a run / walk as a part of your catchup. If you make plans to run with a friend you are also more likely to go ahead with the exercise than if you were going alone, as you’ve made a social commitment and won’t want to let them down. #motivation #northernbeachessmallbusiness #sydneynutritionist #functionalnutrition #northernbeaches #northernbeacheslocal #lifestyle #wellness #healthandwellness #longtermhealth #naturalhealing #hike #bushwalk #trailrunning #greataussieoutdoors #outdoors #exercise #productivity #breaks #hiking #adventure #nature #getoutside #fitness #healthy #workout #motivation #fit #happygreensprout #happygreensproutlife
11.01.2022 New recipe time! I’ve been playing around with the quantities of this one so it’s not quite ready to launch yet. I have two versions, a choc mint version that suits the kids as well as a decadent chocolate mousse with a hint of chili for the adults! The amazing thing about this recipe is that it’s about 50% avocado, gluten free and dairy free and no one would ever know if you didn’t tell them. In fact my 12yo son was cross with me when he saw me making it the other day! Ke...en to get the recipe when it gets published? Drop a comment below and I’ll let you know when it goes live. #raw #healthytreats #cleaneating #lowcarb #dairyintolerance #kidstreats #glutenfree #healingwithfood #healthychoices #wellness #healthandwellness #longtermhealth #naturalhealing #eatrealfood #foodismedicine #glutenfreetreats #paleotreats #cleantreats #healthandwellness #decadent #vegan #balancedhormones #northernbeachessmallbusiness #northernbeaches #northernbeacheslocal #sydneynutritionist #functionalnutrition #happygreensprout #happygreensproutlife

06.01.2022 Choc peanut bliss balls...I made these at the start of the week at the request of my 10yo daughter - she loves them and they give her some quick energy when she needs it. Sometimes as an afternoon treat, sometimes as a cheeky breakfast with some veggies or fruit on the side. Sadly she can’t take them for lunch (nuts!!), but there are still lots of opportunities to eat them in our day. And I like to sneak one occasionally to stop my sugar cravings. I use peanut butter at her r...equest but you can use all sorts of nut butters - ABC (almonds, brazil, cashew), hazelnut butter or almond butter - your choice. I also mix up the nuts sometimes between almonds, hazelnuts and cashew, although almonds are the best in my experience. 02.01.2022 Did you think I was enjoying a cheeky glass of Champagne? Well, that’s where you’re wrong, it’s actually my favourite cordial mixed with sparkling mineral water - Belvoir Elderflower Cordial. Throw it in a Riedel champagne flute and you’d never know the difference at first glance. So if you’re prepping for Christmas I would highly recommend you get yourself a bottle of this stuff and you can join in with the toasts and stay alcohol free if you so choose. Or you can start the ...day out with a bit of a less boozy option as your pressie opening tipple and stay on track if you want to pace yourself a bit. You’ll still enjoy the taste, feel like you’re taking part and your liver will thank you for it Other options include a virgin mary (bloody mary without the vodka) or a non-alcoholic Mojito with mint, ice, soda water, lime juice, apple juice, heaps of ice and a splash of the above cordial - yum. Comment below if you have another favourite mocktail of non-alcoholic drink that feels like a treat and helps you to stay on track with your health through the holidays. #motivation #preppingforxmas #yum #healthychoices #healthychristmas #functionalnutrition #northernbeaches #northernbeacheslocal #lifestyle #wellness #healthandwellness #longtermhealth #naturalhealing #nutrition #nutritionist #holistichealth #selfcare #happygreensprout #happygreensproutlife
