24.01.2022 ATTENTION For those who regularly support and follow the Happy Patch you will be aware we meet on the morning of the 3rd Saturday of the month. That morning is scheduled for tomorrow, 21st March. We have CANCELLED our garden gathering in line with government recommendations and are taking extra precautions to help minimise the spread of COVID-19. We urge you to consider self isolating to protect the most vulnerable in our community (ALL of us have at least one person in this category in our lives!) and to assist our health care professionals with the impending workload facing them over the next few months. In the meantime, we recommend LOTS of gardening at home!

23.01.2022 PRESERVING WORKSHOP #2 Due to popular demand we are running another Preserving the Harvest: fruit preserving workshop, Fowlers Vacola method on Saturday, 8th February between 2pm-5pm at Happy Patch Community Garden. The cost if the workshop is $25. Participants will be guided by two very experienced and expert preservers and learn how to pack and fill two preserving jars for them to keep! We only have two places left so send us a private message if you would like to register to participate!!

19.01.2022 BOOKED OUT We have had many people ask us to run a Preserving Workshop so here is the first one! This is the ‘Water Bath’ method, commonly using ‘Fowlers Vacola’ or ‘Ball Mason’ jars. Details in the link!

19.01.2022 The Happy Patch Community, like countless other Australians and organisations, are heartbroken by the devastation that has and is continuing to occur across our country as result of bushfires. We acknowledge the selfless, tireless and ongoing efforts of all of those involved in defending, protecting and caring for lives, property, homes, conservation areas and wildlife. Our hearts are grateful for all of you and we will continue to support, remember and pray for you in ...the coming months & years! It has been incredibly heartwarming to see the boundless display of generosity and community spirit offered by so many Australians to their fellow Aussies- without question, discrimination or judgement! This is COMMUNITY in action! For us as gardeners, there are likely many of you who have loved ones who’s gardens have been destroyed by the fires. It is a long road to establish and grow a garden with many, many hours of time invested! It is easy to feel helpless, but there are many things we can do to help! Trees For Life (SA) have detailed a number of ways you can directly help or actively get involved to assist in the Bushfire Recovery efforts over the coming years, and indeed decades! Please consider donating, volunteering or getting growing! Details in the link below We can all make a difference, together

16.01.2022 ATTENTION It has been drawn to our attention that some of you may be under the impression that Happy Patch Community Garden is holding an Open Day this Saturday, 2nd November. Please be aware we are *NOT* holding this event and it was unfortunately promoted and publicised in the local Messenger (Southern Times) and on the Onkaparinga Website without our knowledge. We apologise for any inconvenience and would appreciate you helping to get the word out if you can! If you would like to see the garden at another time then please feel free to come along to our monthly garden gatherings, held on the 3rd Saturday morning of every month Thanks

13.01.2022 Wondering what these little guys are? They are hover fly larvae & are veracious feeders! They especially love aphids and will be found in organic gardens quietly taking care of these pesky pests on new spring growth! Roses and fruit trees can be a favourite....
