25.01.2022 Easter is just around the corner and we would like to remind everyone that chocolate is highly toxic to dogs and cats and care should be taken to ensure theyre not led into temptation! The higher the cocoa content, the greater the risk! Always be aware on where the chocolate is around your and always ring your local vet clinic for advice.

19.01.2022 Is your dog desexed but still likes to hump other dogs or someones leg at meal time When dogs get overally excited or feels uncomfortable in it surroundings they do what is known as comfort behaviours (behaviours that are inherently rewarding of they have learned through previous experience to be enjoyable) they do this to calm down and feel better. Its very important not to punish this behaviour, you will only make them nervous and consequently make the problem worse.... Easiest way to start handling this behaviour is step in calmly and separate, engage the dog and encourage an alternate settling behaviour such as removing them all together from the situation, settle them on their bed or give them something to chew. 16.01.2022 Now that the warm summer is here, the flowers are blooming and there is nothing like a freshly cut bunch of flowers in your hpme. But cat owners should be aware that those lovely flowers can potentially be toxic for cats. If your cat eats or comes in contact with any of these plants or any other dangerous items, you will need to seek immediate veterinary assistance. I also recommend that you take part of the toxic plant with you for easy identification to help with treatment. Here are 2 lists explaining what is safe and what is not safe for cats to be around.

16.01.2022 Today I would like to dedicate this post to our friend Pashi. Pashi sadly passed away last week after spending and giving 19 years of joy to family and Friends. Even in our final moments, after I gave you one last hug and a kiss on your head and told you to continue to fight and that i loved you. You put up such a fight at the emergency room and we are so proud of you. I will never forgot you! Not because you were my first ever client at Happy Pawz. But because you wher...e a fighter, a greedy little cat who was just so loving. Can everyone enjoy another glass of sparkling wine tonight or have another scoop of desert to celebrate the life of our greedy...friendly...loveable fur baby Pashi. Condolences to her loving family.

09.01.2022 High temperatures can cause serious health problems for our pets if we dont keep them cool. Do not exercise your pets in hot, humid conditions. Avoid walking on hot sand, concrete, asphalt areas or any other areas whereheat is reflected and there is no access to shade. Do not leave your dog in a car or vehicle even when the windows are down dogs can still overheat and die. If you think your pet has heatstroke.Instigate emergency first aid to help normalise your pets body... temperature. Apply or spray tepid/cool water onto their fur/skin, followed by fanning to maximise heat loss. Dont use ice-cold water or ice as this may exacerbate the problem. Wetting down the area around your pet can also help.Take your pet to the nearest vet immediately. Heatstroke is a life-threatening emergency, so even if your pet looks like they may be recovering or you just suspect they might have suffered heatstroke they should still always be checked by a vet. Heatstroke can cause organ damage which might not appear straight away. Given the seriousness of this condition, it is better to be safe than sorry and have your pet checked out. What are the signs of heatstroke? Signs may vary between individuals, but commonly include: Relentless panting (increases as heatstroke progresses) Drooling, salivating Restlessness Very red or pale gums Bright red tongue Increased heart rate Breathing distress Vomiting, Diarrhoea (possibly with blood) Signs of mental confusion, Dizziness, staggeringLethargy, weaknessMuscle tremorsSeizuresCollapsing and Little to no urine production. Coma If you are unsure if your pet has hest stroke please call your local vet clinic. Im not working at my vet clinic today so feel free to pm me if you need. Also please remember to leave water out for the birds :-)

08.01.2022 Happy Fatherz Day You feed me when Im hungry; you keep water in my dish. You let me sleep on anything or in any place I wish.... You sometimes let me lick your hands, or even lick your face Despite the fact that Ive licked myself in every private place. You taught me how to come when called, you taught me how to sit. You always let me go outside, so I can take a stroll. Youll always have my loyalty, Up to the bitter end Cause after all its plain to see youre still THIS pets best friend!

08.01.2022 Have a pet safe Halloween!! Consider the following suggestions to keep your pets safe not sorry. Keep candy out of reach of your pet. Chocolate, especially dark or baking chocolate, can prove toxic for both dogs and cats. Candy containing the artificial sweetener, xylitol, can also cause problems. If you suspect your pet has ingested something toxic, please call your Veterinary Clinic!... Keep wires and cords from lights and other decorations out of reach of your pet. If chewed, your pet might be cut or burned or receive a potentially life-threatening. Not all pets like to wear costumes so don’t leave it to today to see if your pet is comfortable and not stressed out,its simply not worth it. Keep all but the most social dogs and cats in a separate room when trick or treaters come to call.Even then, take care that your pet doesn’t dart outside when the door first opens. Also stay tuned for our CHRISTMAS RAFFLE

07.01.2022 Happy Easter everyone!! We hope everyone has a lovely day with their families and your pets I know this is a Easter like no other this year so please stay save!

07.01.2022 As a vet nurse I get asked all the time what should i do if my dog is choking? Dogs can choke on just about anything that is the size of the opening to the trachea, but the most common offenders are small balls, such as golf and squash balls, rawhide and real bones, cellophane, and childrens plastic toys. A choking dog makes retching motions and will look panicked, often pacing back and forth and pawing at her mouth. Her chest may be heaving but she isnt making any airway n...oises. If you suspect your dog is choking, first examine her mouth. Pull the tongue forward and remove the foreign object if possible. If you cant see the foreign object, use the canine Heimlich maneuver to try to dislodge the object as shown in the picture provided. For a large dog: Stand behind your dog and place your arms around his body. Make a fist with one hand, and place the thumb of that hand against your dogs abdomen just where the sternum ends. With the other hand, grasp your fist and push upward and forward (toward the dogs shoulders), suddenly and forcefully. Do this thrusting motion four or five times. Check the dogs airway again and clear any debris from the mouth. Repeat the chest thrusts if necessary. If the dog is unconscious, clear the airway and perform rescue breathing. For a small dog: Hold the dog with her head up so that her spine is against your chest. Make a fist with one hand, and place it against your dogs abdomen just where the sternum ends. Grasp the fist with your other hand, and give four or five rapid thrusts inward and upward. Check the dogs airway again and clear any debris from the mouth. Repeat the chest thrusts if necessary. If the dog is unconscious, clear the airway and perform rescue breathing. Make sure you consult your Veterinary Clinic during this process if you have someone with you or as soon as possible.

05.01.2022 Did you know that zucchini is low in calories and is an excellent source of nutrients (especially potassium and vitamin C). That can be added to your cat or dogs diet as a healthy snack. Not only is it pack of nutrients it will also keep your fur babies full and is very low in calories. If your dog is needing to loose weight it is recommended that small dogs have 1 zucchini per day and bigger dogs can have 2 per day.... Zucchini is one of the few veggies pets can eat either cooked or raw but always in moderation. See more
