In my retirement when l am not making Soft Plastics l am spending my days Fishing Lake Awoonga You never stop learning and this story is about trying a lure that l have never tried before in the Freshwater. We have discovered a area that the rather large Barramundi specimens live or come to visit . Most of these fish are well over the meter and up to now have been to cunning to catch ... But we continue to try. This is one such story l arrived at the location about 2pm . The dam was like glass so stealth was the order of the day. The fish where there and it seemed that the rather large Barra where in groups of two So what do l call rather large ? On the sounder they take up a large portion of the screen. My mate John Platten calls them nothing but trouble fish ! . Well this time l thought what about something that they may not of seen before l have this large curly tail plastic and combined with a 9/0 1/2 ounce hook they swim great .When you use a new lure for the first time you are not sure how long you should use it Its called confidence. When it catches fish you will use it again and again but until that happens you give it 5 minutes So after a couple of minutes of casting this lure my mind starts to wander. What do they want ? When will they eat ? The thought processors of this old man are suddenly brought to a sudden stop with my rod nearly being ripped from my hand Im on.....The line is peeling off the reel as l try to gain control of this beast The fight lasted about 30 seconds then " GONE " I am sure we have all been there What the.... Now l have one Curly tail left So out it goes Two cranks of the handle and i am on again l did actually see this fish .Well its rather large head as it spat the plastic back at me Wheres the supa glue ? l repair the plastic as best l can and out it goes Maybe third time lucky ? Nope Trying to net the next fish one handed proved to be a task. Net size XOS Fish size XXOS Well l did get one to the boat but it must have been the runt of the litter To be Continued See more
