25.01.2022 There is a wonderful magic that occurs when cleaning garlic. When the dry, dirt-encrusted, lifeless parts fall away, and the beautiful colours and the subtle shapes of cloves below emerge. This is I why I can happily spend hours cutting, scrubbing, and peeling - to see these little pearls emerge from the labours of my own hands. That, and ‘coz, you know... They’re delicious. #showusyagarlic #happyunderground #iamsodustynow #greatsmellinghome #vampiresbeware #marketgarden #localfood #garlic #spring

19.01.2022 Don’t ever let anyone tell you there’s nothing to be gained from putting jobs off. We should have done it yonks ago, but finally got around to thinning our first bed of spring-sown carrots today, after leaving it a little longer than good gardeners would. But look at our reward for procrastination! Little bite-sized carrots for our salads! ... #carrotthinnings #procrastinationpaysoff #marketgarden #spring #vegetables #locallygrown

13.01.2022 Happy harvest day! The hot weather is here, and with it the start of gorgeous zucchinis! It’s still early enough for us to be excited about picking them and seeing that little bit of new colour they add to the veg boxes. Maybe check back with us in a few weeks to see if the romance is still there, though...... #harvestday #spring #orsummer #vegbox #knowwhereyourfoodcomesfrom #locallygrown #localproduce #exploreyackandandah

12.01.2022 Harvest day. And we got our act together (read: managed to pull ourselves away from what could have turned into a lazy morning’s coffee) to get to the patch when it was still cool and the birds were just getting started. #harvestday #marketgarden #spring #orisitsummer #humanscale #vegetables #locallygrown #knowwhereyourfoodcomesfrom #exploreyackandandah

11.01.2022 Yesterday, we transported what was quite possibly the most delicate item of ‘cargo’ we’ve ever carried on our bikes! We picked up four baby quails for addition to the Happy Underground family, which currently consists of three chooks and thousands of worms. (Although if we’re honest, there are probably eight fewer worms here than there were before the babies arrived...) Suffice it to say, the only thing that is getting done around our place this weekend is lots of gushing ov...er the bubsies and their incredible pace of life! #quail #happyundergroundathome #newadditionstothefamily #permaculture #backyardgarden #ebikecargo
