20.01.2022 Following the Premier’s announcement this morning, the Board and Management of Harbord Bowling & Recreation Club is currently considering our reopening date

19.01.2022 I am sad to report the death of Vic Nagle, our oldest member, who died last night aged 103. Vic, a WW2 veteran, was well known to many at Harbord and was both admired and respected in equal measure. Whilst he had not bowled for some years, he was a regular bowler well into his late 90s and anyone who saw him marvelled at his ability to bowl without the aid of a stick or walker. ... Indeed, many were jealous of his incredible fitness. Three years ago we celebrated Vic's 100th birthday at the Club. I know how much Vic appreciated the gesture (and the cake). It was a significant milestone for him and an honour for the Club to celebrate with him. Rowan, Vic's grandson, phoned me this morning to pass on the sad news and I conveyed our collective condolences and best wishes to Rowan and the rest of Vic's family. A gentleman and a great man, Vic will certainly be missed. Vale Vic Nagle. Toby Williams President, HBC

18.01.2022 Harbord Minor Singles final was played last Saturday between two good mates Craig Redwood and Charlie Hamilton. Played in difficult windy conditions both players produced a great game with Craig finding his range early and remained consistent throughout eventually winning 31-16. Congrats to Craig our minor singles champ for 2020.

16.01.2022 The oldest existing shop in Harbord was, for some time, owned by Stanley Leonard. Mr Leonard was an inaugural Vice President of Harbord Bowling & Recreation Club and his great-grandson, Toby Williams, is the current Vice Chairman of the Club. Following the Club’s formation in the late 40s, meetings of the first Committee were held at Mr Leonard’s real estate agency, where he continued to work up to the age of 90.

13.01.2022 Message from President, Toby Williams, emailed to members of Harbord Men's Bowling Club on 12 May 2020: Earlier today I attended a meeting with Mark Slattery, along with Forrest Craig, Janice Sutherland and Joan Porter, to discuss re-opening the greens at Harbord. This follows the 'road map to staged participation' document released yesterday, jointly, by Bowls NSW and Women's Bowls NSW.... I anticipate the re-opening of at least one of our greens for our members to practice/roll up to occur on Saturday 16 May. Before this, the Board will need to consider both the amended Public Health Orders (yet to be released) and also Mark's 'COVID-19, Greens Re-opening' policy. I will again be in contact when this has been finalised and I am in a position to explain to you all how usage of the greens for practice/roll ups only will be facilitated. It is important to note that a strict framework will apply and members who do not comply may face disciplinary action. Kind regards Toby Williams President, HMBC

10.01.2022 From Zone 9 Secretary, Mark Alexander: BA has just announced they are postponing all of their major events - Australian Championships, Australian CoCC Championships, BPL etc - that were due to be held in the later part of 2020, and will now be held in 2021. BA has adjusted their 2020/2021 calendar accordingly. The flow-on effect from this is that it is now highly likely we will hear tomorrow that the 2020 BNSW State Championships (9-18 October 2020) and the 2020 BNSW CoCC Ch...ampionships (23-28 November 2020) will also be postponed to some time in 2021, probably in the first few months of the year. This is significant news for those players and teams from Zone 9 who have won Zone Championships this year. It will also result in the rather odd situation that there will be two lots of State Championships next year, the 2020 titles held over to 2021 and then of course the 2021 Championships. Just another thing to manage in this crazy COVID-19 world!! I will keep everyone informed as I learn of any developments.
