23.01.2022 World Environment Day- 5th June 2020 ‘It’s Time For Nature’ The foods we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink and the climate that makes our planet habitable all come from nature.... Yet, these are exceptional times in which nature is sending us a message: To care for ourselves we must care for nature. It’s time to wake up. To take notice. To raise our voices. It’s time to build back better for People and Planet. This World Environment Day, it’s Time for Nature.

19.01.2022 World Water Day, on 22 March every year, is about focusing attention on the importance of water. This year’s theme, ‘Water and Climate Change’, explores how water and climate change are inextricably linked. As the global population grows, so does the demand for water, which depletes natural resources and damages the environment in many places. Solutions include protecting carbon sinks such as oceans and wetlands, adopting climate-smart agricultural techniques, and increasing ...the safe reuse of wastewater. Water is our most precious resource we must use it more responsibly. We must balance all of society’s water needs while ensuring the poorest people don’t get left behind. The World Water Day 2020 campaign explains statements such as: We cannot afford to wait. Climate policy makers must put water at the heart of action plans. Water can help fight climate change. There are sustainable, affordable and scalable water and sanitation solutions. Everyone has a role to play. In our daily lives, there are surprisingly easy steps we can all take to address climate change.

18.01.2022 The school theme of National Science Week 2020 is Deep Blue: innovations for the future of our oceans and features the establishment of the Blue Economy CRC. With this in mind, the theme embraces the innovative technologies, capabilities and skills needed to achieve economic, environmental and social sustainability of our oceans. It features insights and inquiries into workable solutions that generate healthy oceans, healthy economies and healthy communities.

18.01.2022 :: WEALTH OF WATER BUGS :: Many of us have fond memories of pulling on our wellies and waders while investigating our riparian habitats. Water contains many messages about how well we are looking after our country everything we do will be reflected in the waters of our catchment.... Water bugs and macroinvertebrates can be a great indicator of how healthy your waterhole or creek system is with species falling into categories from very sensitive (mayfly and stonefly) to very tolerant (leeches and water boatman). Very sensitive species are the first to feel the effects of a decline in water quality and are the first to disappear from the system if something is not right. This quick and easy method of assessment combined with simple water quality testing can provide many clues as to what might be going on across your catchment. We use water bug sampling methods as part of our work to test and improve water quality in target areas throughout the region the Queensland Government's Natural Resources Investment Program. 13.01.2022 April is Global Citizen Science Month! Even with social distancing guidelines in place, there are still ways to continue with daily citizen science activities in your own home. You can look for native species in your backyard, help scientists study fish and coral footage from the Great Barrier Reef, or help astronomers classify galaxies billions of light years away. Take a look at the Australian Citizen Science Association website for citizen science activities that you can do online or in your backyard: http://ow.ly/qycS50yW7Gd #qldscience

12.01.2022 Monday June 8 is World Oceans Day! The theme for 2020 is "Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean" Celebrating the role of the oceans in our everyday life and inspiring action to protect the ocean and sustainably use marine resources. When we think of public health risks, we may not think of the ocean. Increasingly, however, the health of the ocean is intimately tied to our health. Some may be surprised to read that organisms discovered at extreme depths are used to speed up the d...etection of COVID-19, and probably even more to learn that, it is the environment that could give a solution to humankind. This is one of the multiple reasons why we should celebrate World Oceans Day: to remind everyone of the major role the oceans have in everyday life. They are the lungs of our planet, providing most of the oxygen we breathe. The purpose of the Day is to inform the public of the impact of human actions on the ocean, develop a worldwide movement of citizens for the ocean, and mobilize and unite the world’s population on a project for the sustainable management of the world's oceans. They are a major source of food and medicine and a critical part of the biosphere. In the end, it is a day to celebrate together the beauty, the wealth and the promise of the ocean. See more

11.01.2022 Thursday, September 18th, is the kick off the 5th Annual World Water Monitoring Day, a month-long international effort aimed to increase public awareness and involvement in water monitoring and protecting water resources around the world. World Water Monitoring Day engages people of all ages in monitoring the condition of local rivers, streams, estuaries and other waterbodies. Conducting simple monitoring tests teaches participants about some of the most common indicators of water health and encourages further participation in more formal citizen monitoring efforts.

10.01.2022 National Water Week 2020 Reimagining our Water Future Every third week of October, the Australian Water Association organises National Water Week and makes a splash across Australia, inspiring individuals, communities and organisations to build awareness around the value of water. Access to clean water is hugely important to our daily lives, and it’s down to all of us to protect our water environments and resources, and use water wisely. As the national coordinator for the ...week, the Australian Water Association encourages water industry organisations, schools and communities to create, take part in and promote National Water Week events, activities and educational resources. The theme for 2020 is Reimagining our Water Future. As our population grows, this will put more stress on our water resources, so how can we reimagine the way we use and reuse water to ensure there’s enough of it in the future? How can we rethink our current water practices to help conserve valuable water resources? What can we do as individuals and as communities to inspire a more sustainable water future?
