25.01.2022 TRAINER TIP: Rest days (or active recovery like yoga/ stretching) are just as important as working out! Many people don't realise this, but RECOVERY is an equal part of the total process required to build strength, endurance and muscle. Working out (especially resistance training) breaks down your body tissues. Therefore, rest allows your muscles, nerves, bones and connective tissue time to rebuild. That doesn't mean you have to do absolutely nothing. You can still create hea...lthy habits by moving your body every day. But we suggest mixing up your training schedule to include lower impact days like taking time out to go for a walk, practice yoga, or even play with your kids. It's up to you how you choose to spend your recovery days. But implementing one or two days a week will not only help to "recharge your batteries", but it will help you achieve faster results too!! Always listen to your body. Everyone is different and we all require different strategies. No matter if we're working upper body or lower body, we strive to provide our members with well thought out and structured programs, to ensure they are getting the adequate balance they need. With that being said, we feel that in today's society there is definitely more of a need for "pull" movements. 24.01.2022 TRAINER TIP: We believe that the HIP THRUST is one of the most effective exercises you can do to isolate the glutes and help build/ strengthen your posterior chain! There are a variety of ways you can encorporate this "hip-hinge" movement into your training schedule. Don't feel like you always have to add load to the bar. If you don't have access to equipment such as a barbell, you may still elicit similar benefits using dumbells/resistance bands by manipulating the pace at ...which you perform the movement eg slower essentric phase, paused reps, adding an abduction squeeze at the top etc. Then once you have mastered the correct technique, you can move into B-Stance or Single Leg hip thrusts, in order to continuously challenge the body's stimulus. Our top tips for performing the hip thrust correctly are as follows: - push through the heels -ensure vertical shins at the top of the movement so you're not putting too much emphasis on quads. - keep knees out - achieve full hip extension where you get the most glute activation without arching the low back. - slightly posterior tilt the pelvis - keep ribs down (think rib to hip connection) - maintain forward eye gaze - brace core before each lift - pause at the top of the movement and really squeeze the glutes for full activation! - lower back down with CONTROL! #training #lowerbody #hipthrust #build #strengthen #glutes #activationdrills #functional #fitness #hardjellygym See more

14.01.2022 Let’s talk about #DOMS - Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. If you are wondering why you have felt extra sore after certain workouts or sometimes not sore here’s the basic info DOMS can be felt several hours or days after strenuous exercise, usually the worst between 24 and 72 hours. This usually happens when we introduce you to a new program which either has a new exercise that your body isn’t used to, or we increase the load (heavier weights or more reps) Don’t panic - DOMS usually lasts anything from 1-5 days. Stretch, eat good food, use magnesium or Epsom salts in your bath and most importantly keep moving to avoid stiffness

12.01.2022 TRAINER TIP: Progressive Overload is KEY when it comes to muscle growth and development!! If you want to "build" muscle you need to continuously increase your "total workload" during training sessions in order to elicit a response! This doesn't mean you always have to lift HEAVY, because at some point you will no longer be able to increase the weight. You just need to create enough TIME UNDER TENSION, and this can be done by changing up the tempos, adding drop sets, increasin...g reps or even adding pulses or pauses into the exercise. To effectively change your body composition you need to make this your number one priority. Many people think that they should do hours of steady state cardio to strip fat. But this is simply not the case. Infact, too much cardio will lead to muscle breakdown which you don't want, especially as you age! You will get a far better outcome from focusing your efforts on strength training! We specialise in functional strength training where you can get the best of both worlds. 06.01.2022 TRAINER TIP: Being consistent is the difference between failure and success! People often think they need to train for hours on end or go on extreme diets to get results. That's not the case. In fact, going to extremes only ends up leading to burn out or self sabotage! We believe in implementing small, REALISTIC changes that you can stick to LONG TERM! Our exercise programs are specifically crafted with this in mind. We often change up the structure or throw in new exercises ...from time to time to keep things exciting. However, our foundation exercises such as squats, hip thrusts, deadlifts, push ups etc (those that are proven to deliver the best results) are always kept in rotation. This is so that you can continue to get stronger in those primary movements, in order to enhance other aspects of your training! Our trainers ensure that every exercise is scaled to the level of the client. So if we program an advanced single leg deadlift for example and you're only a newbie, then we will always offer a regression to suit the individual! There are multiple ways to change up an exercise to make it harder, but until you can master the basic principles, then you will never achieve the progress needed to fully change your body composition!
