11.01.2022 HERBS. Lets chat Parsley. This is the most popular herb in the world. The two basic types of Parsley are Afro or Curly and Italian. Parsley is a rich source of vitamins K, C, A and B. Also minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium and iron. Both are also known to help control blood sugar levels. The herb has antifungal, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties Great herb for aiding in the elimination of bad breath. Italian parsley is also used to aid in digest...ion. The leaf stems have stronger taste than the leaves. Growing Parsley is easy. Can be grown in a home garden or pot, full and partial sun. Harvest regularly to promote growth. It is a biennial plant, meaning it grows for two years. Differences and uses of Italian and Afro / Curly Parsley: Italian Parsley; Italian parsley is the variety most often used in Mediterranean cooking. Italian parsley is aromatic. Italian parsley has a fresh, clean taste. It is described as slightly peppery, with a hint of citrus, clove, and nutmeg. Good for flavouring salads, stocks, soups, sauces, stews, tomato dishes and meatballs, used in a wide range of savoury recipes and pairs especially well with chicken and fish. Curly or Afro Parsley; Curly parsley often gets associated with French dishes. Curly parsley is almost flavourless and increasing in bitterness over time. It is more used as a garnish, sprinkle it over the dish to add a splash of colour. So pop into the nursery and grab both types, and whip up a delicious meal and garnish it.

06.01.2022 Who remembers our giant pumpkin post from last autumn? Gavin who works at Bunnings Yarrawonga was pictured showing the massive pumpkin he’d grown. Well, he’s ou...tdone himself again! Gavin’s partner Sharon is proudly holding this sweet potato - two of which weighed 4.5kg and 5.5kg each. Gavin’s garden has very sandy soil, so he needs to feed and water really often, as a lot of applied nutrition and water runs right past the root system and leaches out. He prepared his beds with Seamungus, planted his seedlings and mounded up around the bed which ended up being 1metre in diameter. Every 4-5 weeks the beds were given a feed of Gyganic for Veggies, Fruit & Citrus, and this is the result! Gavin has actually been harvesting from these two vines for about two months and has already harvested a wheelbarrow full. Every time we wanted sweet potato, I’d duck out and pinch one from the vine, not realising these monsters lay underneath. Did you say something about becoming weary of sweet potato Gavin? Not likely when there’s so many things that you can do with these versatile vegetables! About Gyganic for Fruit and Citrus - Specifically developed to enhance fruit size, quality and taste, Gyganic for Fruit and Citrus is a premium organic based, chemically boosted complete fertiliser with the full range of nutrients in an organic form, coupled with boosted levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, iron and magnesium. Gyganic’s unique organic base of manure, humates and rock phosphate have been composted and blended with the biologically active GOGO Juice containing kelp and seaweed producing a very nutritious organic base product high in organic carbon. Following extensive trials by members, Gyganic for Fruit and Citrus is now recommended by the Rare Fruit Society of South Australia. This endorsement provides gardeners with the confidence to use and recommend Gyganic. www.neutrog.com.au

02.01.2022 Succulents. Succulents can be easy to grow and very rewarding. Delosperma Lehmannii (Common Name: Ice Plant, Chain Plan)... Light: Full sun to partial shade. Water: Water during the summer and spring, making sure it has good drainage. Reduce water in the winter as excess water can damage the plant. Flowers: Produces yellow daisy-like flowers in the springtime. Propagation: From stem cuttings taken during spring- autumn. Care: Very low-maintenance plant in suitable growing conditions. It will thrive in rich and poor and well-draining soil. This little succulent potted into a pretty pot can be a real looker. Come on in and get yourself one of these.
