01.01.2022 ANZAC DAY - Paying Our Respects A significant day in our Nations history is 25 April. It is our day to remember and honour our fallen, it is a day to pay our re...spects not just to those who have fallen, but those who returned having given so much. - a day to commemorate all who have fought for the freedom we enjoy today. - a day to commemorate and show our gratitude to those who have served in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations, and to those who are currently serving in our Armed Forces, wherever they maybe in the world at this time. - a day we share with New Zealand, who are much more than just a good neighbour. On this day we say THANK YOU from deep within our hearts. We do this by rising early, looking to dawn as the echoes of a bugle penetrates the silence. We stand, with our hats off and our heads down as we pray or ponder in silence, again to be broken by a voice solemnly reading the Ode as we unite in our commitment to Lest We Forget. We do what we do, going about our day, our week, our month and soon a year. Our chest out and head held high in great pride for our Nation...... and we do this why? Because they did, and that's what the real Aussie Spirit is all about. A spirit that was invented by our diggers, and their gift so great. We don't give in, we fight to the end and we look out for each other because that's what real Australians do. Families and friends, it was at the end of the First World War when those fortunate enough to return home, that our band was formed. And while in short recess for the Second World War the band again reformed with many returned servicemen. The band having gone through a few name variations from the Borough of Ringwood Band, Ringwood Citizens Brass Band, Ringwood Municipal, City of Ringwood to now as Maroondah Brass, we have continued to keep our roots close by way of the provision of musical support and contributions to these significant days, and also by close association with the Ringwood RSL Sub Branch. It is unfortunate that this year we are all in isolation and our coming together to commemorate this years ANZAC Day is not possible. We know that many varied alternatives have been suggested so all can still participate despite this small and temporary inconvenience. Many will participate and it seems many more may do so for the first time and that is wonderful. We hope you will take the opportunity. With isolation comes no band rehearsals and oddly most are not practicing at home, but it didn't stop a challenge extended to those in our cornet section to participate in this small, but important service. And with mobile phones in one hand, their instrument in another, band shirt & tie, little prep time, never having done this isolation video thing at home before, those that could uploaded their efforts which we have culminated into one. Despite some phone noise reduction features kicking in at times, and various acoustics in their homes and so on, we are grateful to; - Mark Dimattina - Caleb Horner - Campbell Hargraves & Belinda Moore for their collective efforts on behalf of the rest of the cornet section, and indeed the entire band. We hope that in some way this may enhance your 2020 ANZAC Day commemorations. LEST WE FORGET #AnzacAtHome #Standto
