22.01.2022 There's a lot of debate about which diet is best for weight loss and whether the type of calorie matters, and this study gives us more information to work with: In 2012, Dr David ludwig, a Harvard endocrinologist, and his associates performed a study to help determine the effectiveness of different diets on long term weight loss. It was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. It involved 21 participants, who were randomized into one of three diets: a st...andard low fat diet, a high fat low carb diet and a mediteranean-like diet. The study was well controlled. Everything they ate was given to them by the study coordinators. It was designed so that each participant would lose 10-15% body weight, regardless of the diet they were on. They found that while on a standard low-fat weight loss program, people's metabolism will slow down and their hunger will increase. On the other hand, on a low-carb diet, the body did not go into starvation mode and their metabolism and hunger levels stayed steady. This suggests that a low-carb diet is more suitable for long term weight loss. According to Dr Ludwig, if you cut calories, you're body starts 'fighting back' and if you cut your calories more, your metabolism will slow further. This is why people struggle to keep weight off on a low-calorie diet.

Curcumin, omega 3s and resveratrol are all powerful anti-inflammatories. Inflammation plays a big role in ageing and many health problems. Most of us have too much inflammation and these supplements will act to counter that.

17.01.2022 Why canola oil isn't paleo: Canola oil is not considered an acceptable item on the paleo diet because of the extensive processing it goes through. Here is a summary: - It is heavily treated with pesticides - It is bleached to change the colour. ... - It is heated to extreme temperatures to extract the oil and remove the odour, which destroys the nutrients and produces harmful free radicals. - Most of it is treated with hexane, a harsh, petroleum-based solvent. 12.01.2022 Is Sunflower Oil Paleo? Seed oils tend to be heavily processed and exposed to heat, which creates toxins that are better not consumed. Theyre also usually very high in omega 6 fats, which is believed to be harmful if consumed way out of proportion to omega 3 fats. The interesting thing about sunflower oil, is that while the standard high-linoleic oil is high in omega 6 fats and therefore not recommended on a paleo diet, there are high-oleic varieties of sunflower oil which are mostly monounsaturated fats. So they are lower in omega 6 and that makes them more resistant to the effects of heat. These varieties are generally acceptable on a paleo diet.

05.01.2022 A Comparison of autoimmune paleo diets Autoimmune paleo diets are a variation of the paleo diet which eliminate Common Allergenic Foods, for the purpose of, as the name suggests, treating autoimmune diseases.
