21.01.2022 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. Today is R U OK? Day our national day of action to remind us that every day is the day to ask Are You OK? if someone in your world is struggling with life’s ups and downs especially this year. It’s an important initiative raising awareness around suicide prevention and how star...ting a conversation could change (or save) a life. You can read more and learn about how to keep the conversation going at www.ruok.org.au So today, and every day check in on your mates and ask R U OK?

John joined the Harness team as a Trainer and Assessor in February this year with a wealth of experience in Field Safety Advisor roles and with his likeable personality and desire to make a difference in student’s learning experiences has quickly made him Harness’s lead WHS and HSR Trainer! An Inspector attended the first three days of John's HSR course to ensure John was running the course in accordance with the Worksafe's Requirements. The Inspector was very pleased with John’s WHS knowledge and the structure of his course. We thought we’d share some of the student feedback from John’s HSR course too John was an excellent facilitator. Top marks - as a workplace trainer myself, can thoroughly recommend John and Harness. 12.01.2022 Harness have been celebrating NAIDOC week in many ways. Emilio, one of our Western Downs Indigenous Traineeship Program students, shared that he was very happy that his host employer Veolia acknowledged NAIDOC WEEK with the theme Always Was, Always Will Be. Every day this week for NAIDOC, Veolia staff and Contractors at the Northern Water Treatment Plant at Woleebee Creek Camp during pre-start meetings, all took turns to do an acknowledgement to Country and share an interes...ting fact about Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people. Emilio said, Today I shared some interesting information about my people, so it was a no brainer for me being a Iman man and working Iman country to talk about Iman people and talked about a bit of history of the area. Across both our Brisbane and Toowoomba facilities this week, our team have been wearing their ‘Upstream Dreaming’ shirts. The artwork for the shirts was created by our 8 Indigenous Trainees representing their Traditional Owner groups and the land they gather on through the Western Downs Indigenous Traineeship program.

03.01.2022 "National Reconciliation Week is celebrated between 27th May and 3rd June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. 27th May marks the date of the referendum in 1967 when Australia overwhelmingly voted YES to remove several discriminatory policies regarding our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples of Australia. This week is a time of learning and li...stening and celebrating the context that we are home to the oldest continuing culture in the world. As the Indigenous Mentor at HARNESS ENERGY and working in partnership with SHELL/QGC, we are honoured to enthusiastically promote respect and right relationships across our footprint of work to become a truly complete nation. This year's theme is In This Together and we are delighted with SHELL/QGC to showcase the WESTERN DOWNS TRAINEESHIP PROGRAM for 2020. The WESTERN DOWNS TRAINEESHIP PROGRAM for 2020 has brought each one of the trainees together for a common goal. A new start in the Oil and Gas Industry. It shows us all gathered around the main focus of the piece, the Harness logo. Not only is it where we have met but it is now our own place of gathering and where our journey begins. Reconciliation Week means a lot to me; it’s an opportunity of Coming together for you and me to be part of a journey to toughen relations between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and non Indigenous people." - written by Peter Jackson, Harness Indigenous Mentor Proud descendent of the Mandandanji on his mother’s side and Gunggari People on his father’s of South West Queensland.
